The Peppermill offers a unique atmosphere and cuisine for a sushi bar. The bar is located in the center of the Oceano restaurant which is quite open and spacious, with bright neon blue colors...definitely “unique”. The Oceano Sushi Bar definitely has the best presentation in Reno, when it comes to the art and visual presentation, their aesthetic skills are unsurpassed (the sashimi combo is exceptional). Another interesting feature to the entire Oceano restaurant is the white seashell dishware they use from the soup bowls to the tea cups its part of that “unique” feel they have. The Tuna and the Yellowtail were good, and the Mountain and the Oceano Roll were excellent. Overall I was very impressed and I do enjoy it when the Chef’s are actually Japanese which you can’t always count on in the non-coastal west… I have only one issue with the restaurant, and that would be the green tea, I expect it to be real brewed green tea, not hot water and a tea bag. But that is a minor issue and the only thing I could think of aside from excellent service. It’s not all you can eat, but maybe that is the price you have to pay for the extra nuance.

Went to celebrate my grandfathers 93 birthday with 30 plus other family members, large party for sure. My aunt booked us a dinner reservation at the Oceana. At first I thought there is no way their going to reserve tables for such a large party, but guess what? They did. They sat us all in the same area not the same table but with this many people the accommodations where perfect. Even after they sat us down we had more family showing up little by little and they just keep adding more seats and or tables as need. They sat us in LUZs section (our server) who was amazing. She really did an amazing job. Kept our drinks full, our needs met and our party happy. She was so kind and caring. I really enjoy her service, attention to detail, and the time she took to talk to us just to get to know us. Thank you LUZ for the amazing service. As for the food I dont recall anyone saying they didnt enjoy their meal. Good food, good service I Will defiantly come back to this restaurant the next time Im in Reno.

Ate there Friday night, around 6pm. There were many open spaces at the sushi bar. Curious for a Fri. night as there are only about 15 chairs there. It took FOREVER for us to get our first order. We purposely sat before a chef who had no one else to wait on, but he was busy making orders for the booth patrons. When he finally made our orders, he forgot half of my husbands & hed only ordered two kiinds of sushi. The rolls were just okay. The fish not outstanding at all. Very heavy on sweet sauces & mayo. I had to ask the waiter for a carafe of hot water to refill my tea, as he brought one cup & then forgot about me. Sushi is Reno is very competitive & obviously (from the empty bar seats) Oceano is not a favorite. Saw 3 other people come in & again wait FOREVER for their first orders. We will not be going to Oceano ever again. Peppermill needs to visit Atlantis and the Eldorado to see how other casinos are running their sushi bars.

Sushi and service was good. I liked the option of getting hand rolls for most of their selections. Service and atmosphere was good. The negative was the price and wait. We went at 4 and it wasnt too busy. They state making hand rolls takes longer, know problem there but we ordered the regular rolls for the 2nd round and that took almost as long. Worst part was the price. $31.99 was on the expensive side for and adult, but they dont have a kids price. My 9 year old was charged the same price. My fault for not asking but had I know it would have been better to buy 2 full price rolls. They also had 3 menus one for AYCE and a regular. There were many items on thr AYCE menu that were not available, if thats the case dont put it on the regular menu. While the sushi was good I would not go back with kids to AYCE.

Oceano disappointed us. The fish was fine... not the most perfect cuts, but delicious and well-enough prepared. But the service was terrible. We left hungry. We left a so-called all-you-can-eat sushi place HUNGRY, because in three hours, they only managed to bring a couple orders to us. They got orders wrong, bringing us rolls we did not want; they lost two of our orders, and when we tried to place the order again they told us it would be 45 minutes to an hour to get a pair of nigiri. We definitely did not get our moneys worth. We were staying in the hotel and one of our party gave up on dinner and went to bed.

Decor is gaudy - what do you expect in a casino restaurant? Service has been just OK, but never a bad experience. The sushi is actually some of the best I have had in Reno. (Try the Oceano roll.) Im also obsessed with their crusty sour dough bread they serve when you sit down. I dont mess with the possibility of mid/poor quality fish at any restaurant - especially sushi. Lets face it, when I go to sushi, I go for the quality of fish. I dont look as much for the ambiance I would at a steakhouse or Italian. Long story short - 4 stars for the thing that matters most at a sushi restaurant, the food.

10/11/14 It took one hour for miso soup and edamame. Need I say more?! If I need to say more, then Ill say service in that hour was friendly, and our drinks were refilled once, but a hour for soup.... really?! Weve been here twice. Service at the bar was kind of awful, but within the restaurant it was great. Our bartender didnt even salt our edamame (and weve had it sitting inside - it should come with salt). Their rolls are big, fish is fresh, and prices are good. But service at the bar was inexcusable.

I hadnt been here since they opened due to the fact that they didnt offer all-you-can-eat, which is a standard in Reno area Sushi Bars. They just started all-you-can-eat, so, my friend & I went there for my birthday lunch to check it out again. The service & food was excellent...we plan to return on a regular basis. Kristian is an excellent Sushi Chef...try his seared scallop w/Japanese peppercorns in Miso soup...amazing!

I ordered the halibut and was very disappointed. It was a dry small piece of fish with a cream sauce with some avocado and some grapefruit. It tasted like something that was sitting under heat lamps at the buffet. I left feeling like I had been ripped off for the price and will not go back but the service was good and scenery was very nice.

We enjoy coming here for oysters on the half shell. Delicious crusty sour dough bread adds to the appeal. It can be kind of loud depending on where you sit. I would not consider this fine-dining, due to the level of service and atmosphere. The food has always been very good.
