I was in kansas city, missouri I told my brother about this place that I saw on Food Network about the leval pie with the 18 apples in the pie. I was making a trip out of it and was coming from Wisconsin and went to Davenport and Des moines and down to Kansas city and wanted to go to St Louis and remebered about this place I saw on food network. So we typed in GPS and my brother called and they said they had pies and to make sure when we get there they will still have some so we get there at 6pm and I was expecting this awesome pie and it did look great so I bought the whole pie and two other pies and left and let me tell you a small city dont expect to spend to much time there. So we then drive to are cousins house in Champange ILL to have at a party it was a focus point at party until we tried to get out of box which the top came with the box but was able to put back on pie and then for cutting how do you cut a pie that big. So I expecting gooey inside of yummy apples and what did I get I got uncooked apples and crunchy when ate. The pie was raw apples. It was a mega disappointed for spending $36.00 for a raw apple pie. I left the pie there and felt any one can make a pie but 18 apples they were tiny apples and uncooked it was waste of money for sure. The two other pies I bought dont waste your time you can get it better at Costco or Sams Club or another bakery for half the price and have it taste better and the ice cream they saw is so great it is not there homemade ice cream the ice cream is cedar crest ice cream from Wisconsin and yes Wisconsin Ice Cream is good but they should make there own homemade and make it give it that feel of a old bakery tradition the looks inside make it look like a old ice cream place but nothing about it the food or fudge and pies were good at all. DOnt wast your gas and time to go somewhere that is a floop. In Food network they probably cooked the apples because when I saw the show they were able to cut the apples with there fork it was moist but the pie I had you try doing that the apple will fly across the room. IT WAS RAW AND UNCOOKIED.

Im so excited that I finally got to check this place out! After investigating the menu, I knew I needed to try some of their delicious pies or possibly a cheesecake! It was pretty darn busy (a Sunday around 3p). There were quite a few groups waiting for a table. Good thing I just wanted some take-out baked goods! I made my way back to the bakery counter and marveled at all of my options. I immediately noticed that there were samples out! - Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cheesecake. The texture was smooth and creamy and the flavor was right on target! However, I also spotted a Pumpkin Praline Cheesecake. I asked the lady at the counter how they compared and which she preferred. She immediately pulled the cake out, talked me through the layers and gave me a small sample on a fork. The crust tasted like a sugar cookie - sweet and chewy. The pumpkin cheesecake had all the cinnamon/nutmeg/allspice goin on that you want when you think of fall and Thanksgiving! And the top was covered in a layer of praline pecans!! This was definitely even better than the Gooey Butter! (Also, have you ever tried the Pecan Pumpkin Cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory? This is better!!!) The Death By Chocolate also caught my eye - I was given another sample. On the bottom - a chewy, fudgey brownie. On top of that, a layer of chocolate mousse topped with whipped cream. The whole thing was light and fluffy and not overly sweet. My friend and I ended up taking all three home and stuffing our faces! I would definitely get the Death by Chocolate again. And Ill be excited to see what new seasonal options they have next time!

Disappointing! The food, service and experience used to be great. Today the hostess was unfriendly and the food was very disappointing. The salad came out on a bread plate; literally they were the same plate. My baked chicken salad was burned or re-cooked and my moms chicken fried steak was tiny! I live 3 miles from the place and we go about 6-8 times per year but the past couple of times we have gone the food portions and taste have declined. Even their world famous desserts are smaller and cost more. The apples in the mile high pie dont even reach the top of the crust. Its more like 3 inches between top crust and apple. Its such a shame because this was one of those restaurants that you could rely on for a good meal and incredible dessert. The dessert menu has shrunk so much in the past few years the pies or cakes you used to love are no longer made. They no longer have the unique desserts they built their reputation on. Just a huge disappointment that they have gotten so big (more restaurants, desserts at other restaurants, etc.) they have sacrificed the quality and quaintness of what people loved about the place.Sorry Mary but I wont be coming back anytime soon. I can think of many other restaurants I can have a better lunch experience for my $30 (total for 1 including, iced tea, baked chicken salad pie, dessert and tip) than the Blue Owl. If you wake up and return it to what it was perhaps I and others will return.

Ive been to the Blue Owl off and on over the years. I made reservations to take my mother-in-law for mothers day 2010. They had a smaller than ordinary menu that day with larger than ordinary prices (which are pretty high to begin with). We ordered fried chicken which was so over done there really wasnt any "chicken" under the fried "shell". I cant see how this even got past the person putting it on the plate. We normally dont complain but after paying so much we politely brought it to the attention of the owner. She offered to make more for us. After waiting 30 minutes for our food with our two little children, no thanks we said. We didnt ask for our meal free, we didnt ask for anything really. What we expected were the chicken dinners to be taken off the bill (out of our party of 5 that would have been 2 meals). Instead we got 2 free slices of pie, which I had the delight of ordering from the rude ladies at the pie counter. Then when we left and walked around the side of the building we see a tent canopy set up, with a young (early twenty something) guy outside breading and cooking the chicken (which was flavorless besides being over done). And that was that for us. Never Again!!

Took a group of women from our church to the Blue Owl for a nice Saturday afternoon. We had a reservation, so the wait was minimal. However, since we had 11 in our party, the 18% gratuity was automatically tacked onto each of our tickets, so the our service was very non-par. Our waitress was not attentive to our needs, and we had one three-year old in our party and we had to ask for her drink two different times before it was brought to the table. When our server finally got the idea that we were ready to go, it took her three trips to our table to bring all of our tickets. My bill was $32.23 and I gave her $33.00 and she walked off with my money with no intentions of giving me any change, even though there was already a "service charge" of $4.23 on my ticket!!! I had to specifically ask for my change. Then another lady in our party had the wrong sandwich on her ticket and she told our server that it was wrong and the server tried to argue with her and she had to open her take home box to prove to the server which sandwich she did have. The food was okay--the prices were way too high--and the services was way below expectations.
