Id rate no stars. I work in the service industry myself, so Id say I can always relate when the food comes out slow or the server is super busy. But, that wasnt the case on this day. There was probably less than 6 tables in the restaurant at the time we were there(there was 3 of us) & maybe 2/3 servers. I believe the server I had only had 1 or 2 other tables. When she came to took the order it felt as if I was bothering her to do her job. She was impatient & on top of that, once she would go out a order/drinks in, shed be gone for about 10 mins at a time. My friend ordered the spinach dip appetizer, which was mostly spinach than cheese, we informed the server that the taste of it was inconsistent as well as grainy and she grabbed the manager. The manager came over, I believe his name was Bart or Martin. He was dry when he approached the table & gave off this vibe that we were bothering him. He came to the table & said "hi Im the manager" & that was it.. he just gave us this, what do you want look. My friend began to explain she didnt like the taste of the item & all she wanted to do was maybe get a different appetizer. He told us, he really didnt want to change it because she had already ate it & he cant resell it but, hed change it but wouldnt change the price. Then my food came out, a chicken salad & it had onions, which Im allergic to, in it. I asked the server for no onions but somehow it was still on there. I then asked for he manager, he approached the table in the same manner as before. I explained to him I couldnt eat this & he told me, I changed it for you guys before & I wasnt suppose to so I cant change your salad either. Then he just walked off, that was it. I was ready to walk out just by the way he handled that situation. We waited about 10 more mins til the server came by & dropped off the checks, then another 15 before she actually came by to pick up the payments. Im not sure if she just assumed she wouldve have been tipped well because we didnt like our food but, she didnt really seem to have an interest in giving us at least decent service. Also, Ive never actually read the reviews on this restaurant til now but, I do find it extremely funny how the people whove all given terrible service are mostly people of color. Ive been told before, "their always funny acting towards black people there" but I thought to give them a chance myself. I dont know if my experience was less than others because of the color of my skin but, Id hope not.

I never ever leave negative reviews because Im in the hospitality industry but Ive had a long day and this male bartender upstairs just got under my skin. At 2am I went upstairs to go ask if they were still serving food was told no, which was fine. I then said could I order a drink instead and was told they already did last call. It was 2am and they close at 3am so I asked why....? The guys answer was: because we did with a snide look on his face. He wouldnt serve me a drink even with multiple guests still sitting there drinking. Seemed they were his friends though. I was on a business trip and got done doing admin work 5 minutes prior in my hotel room not some college kid, already inebriated, and being rude. Ive worked in hospitality my entire life and not once have I ever denied a guest service during business hours and as a GM I would NEVER deny revenue no matter the time of day. Best part is had they not said that the other 15 people I was with would have come down and the bartender could have had a pretty full pocket of cash before leaving on a Tuesday night! We hospitality folk tend to tip extremely heavy when were provided great service especially late night after sitting in meetings all day and working late. Too bad for the restaurant owner who just lost our business for the next 3 days were in town at the Sheraton next door. Theres many other eateries/bars within walking distance Im sure wouldnt turn guests or revenue away to leave a little earlier and because of this they will have or business.

I cant say enough about Tomfooleries!!!! Me and my friend Mary came to Kansas City to celebrate turning 50! I am from GA and Mary is from Oklahoma and we were both waitresses for 6 yrs in our 20s so we know our waitresses and restaurants!!! We wanted to find a place to eat that was not anywhere else we had been before! Well after looking for a while we found Tomfooleries! We arrived for brunch at noon! It was an experience beyond our expectations! First of all as soon as you walk in everyone was very kind the atmosphere was awesome! Then we had the most amazing waitress Ashley B. Not only was she an awesome waitress, she is an amazing young woman!!!! She explained how everything they serve is fresh not frozen and that because of that we may have to wait just a little longer.which was good to know! So because of that we ordered an appetizer!!! Bucket of fried Pickles!!! The best fried Pickles we had ever had.you can feed 4 people easy with this appetizer! We also got to experience the bloody Mary bar and mimosa bar!!! Amazing!!! Our lunch was also amazing I had beer can chicken and Mary had lettuce wrap!!!! Portions large 2 can share easily!!!!So fantastic!!! If ever in Kansas CITY,MO you have to go to Tomfooleries!!! You will not be disappointed!!! 6 stars if they offered!!!! Thanks Ashley B for telling us about the museums and River market!!! I will go to Tomfooleries again if Kansas city visit ever happens again!!!!also the Twinkie and sparkler candle was a nice touch for our Birthday Experience!!!!

I have visited them for several years and never received such Poor service. I normally go in during the day and the female bartender is wonderful she happens to put a to go menu in my bag last week and I decided to take them up on the offer this week. Unfortunately to my surprise once calling I was informed after debate amongst lazy employees that they were so busy that I had to come in and place my order completely defeating the purpose of a pick order. Normally I would have took my business somewhere else but I honestly just wanted a good burger but NEVER AGAIN. After making my way to the restaurant I was stopped and carded by the bouncer even after I had informed him I was placing a to go order and had no intention on drinking. After giving I.D I had to stop the bartender because apparently I had my invisible cloak on. This was the same guy that debated taking my order over the phone. Looking at the crowd it was average not how I have seen it on a summer night an was extremely confused by what he had told me over the phone about them being supposedly "slammed" He took the order and it only took mins to prepare but instead of them handing me my food they sit it in the back of the bar where I have to stop another waiter that was handling tables to give me my already paid for food Before everything was cold. Overall POOR POOR customer service food is good if you feel like dealing with the sometimey staff. There to-go ordering is just as horrible.
