I ate there last night, and was completely unimpressed. Service was poor and slow. The waitress was not friendly and not even remotely apologetic for the 10 minute wait we had from the time we got our menus to the time she took our order. I even had to ask another waitress if ours would be coming back soon. It would be different if the place had been crowded, but it was not. When the food arrived, things didnt get any better. My kids ordered cheeseburgers, and thats more or less what they were. A bun that was twice the size of the meat patty, and a slice of cheese. No condiments or toppings anywhere to be seen. I have to assume thats normal, as well, since they werent asked if theyd like anything on them. Of course, that could have just been our waitress. I had a quesadilla, which was OK, and my wife had the "hot" wings, which were anything but hot. Its possible, though, that you could order them at varying degrees of hotness, but again, that wasnt mentioned by our server. Even by ordering water for the adults (kids meals came with drinks) and no dessert, the bill was nearly $40, and not worth half that much. I can say, with complete confidence, that I will not return to the Big Chief Roadhouse any time soon. If youre looking for a place to go drink some beer with your buddies, then this may be the place to go. If youre looking for a good meal and good service, Id head on down the road to the Big Bear Grill. Its not any cheaper, but at least there, you get what you pay for.

Driving the old Route 66 and came across this place. The large smoked chicken wing appetizer with the chipotle BBQ sauce was amazing. I could have made a meal of those alone. They had plenty of local offerings of beer, such as Schlafly, Civil Life, and O"Fallon, which is always a plus in my book. My wife had the toasted lasagna, and I had a pulled pork sandwich (simply because I wanted more of the chipotle BBQ sauce.) Both entrees were excellent as well. As we meandered on down Route 66, time and again our conversation kept returning to the food at this quaint little place. I would highly recommend it to anyone making the Route 66 excursion, or would recommend it to anyone in the St. Louis area just wanting to get away from the city for a break. One last note; in looking for other sites to see along Rte. 66, we asked our waitress. When she admitted she didnt know for sure, she went in the back to as "Mike" what he would suggest. He came out and presented us with his ideas, and engaged us in conversation for quite some time in talking about the local area. Fun and informative.

This is the 1st restaurant I have ever been compelled to write a review about. I own an internet-based Pre-Owned car dealership directly across the street from Big Chief. I have had nearly everything on the menu and some items that are not on the menu. Today I asked them to make me a "Riverfront Times" quality BLT and I got it!! Mostly because they smoke all their own meats which includes the bacon and they have a huge garden where they grow their own produce.... Fresh homegrown tomatoes, fresh homegrown lettuce, smoked bacon, grilled sourdough bread and a suddenly a "Crown Candy" competitor was born!! They have a really fun covered, outdoor patio that I love to frequent, great service, historic Route 66 locale, and are very reasonably priced. Every customer I send over there comes back with a full belly and rave reviews. Get out of the gluttonous feeling Chesterfield valley, take a little ride and have a great time at the historic "Big Chief Roadhouse"!!!

My blueberry pomegranate martini was nice, but the rest was very mediocre. I ordered "the stampede" which is supposed the be a double burger. I ordered it very well done. It was served to me as a single patty cooked medium rare. I asked for another. The second was cooked properly, but still a single patty. Quite annoying if you ask me. My side was supposed to be "seasoned fries", and these were also wrong. Both times served to me with no seasoning at all. Who wants plain, unseasoned fries? Also, our server was very disconnected and seemed uninterested in waiting on us. We had a table of four very easy going ladies, and we were checked on twice in an hour and a half. Heads of animals on the wall is pretty unappealing as well. Not a place I will return to, but I gave it a fair shot.

I was at there last night, ate dinner, and played cards . There was this young man that got upset and was using very foul language towards a Lady. The mmanager of the restraunt and the person running the Texas - Holdems game said "This is a bar and we can not tell anyone how to speak". The game is played in the FAMILY restraunt not in the bar. I was shocked by the response from not only the Manager but also from the owner and person running the game. It is Top Pair Poker. People who play pay for food in order to get a ticket. I will no longer go into that restraunt but will also not play with the Top Pair Poker.

We have been eating at Big Chief for several years and have been very satisfied. However our last visit was far from what we expected. I ordered chicken fried steak. which has been one of my favorites. It might be because we were early, but the food tasted like it was leftover and the greenbeans were not freash. Also our waiter had extremely bad body oder. We will probably give them one more try since the food has been excellent in the past. We will arrive later and ask for a different waiter.

Surprisingly good food all things considered. It can be crazy busy though depending on the evening and the time you arrive. If you go get the smoked wings or the stuffed baby portabellas as an appetizer, both are very good. The Toasted Lasagna sounds strange when you read the description but it is actually quite good. Id say the only downside is when the place is busier there can be a lengthy wait for a table and the noise level can get a little high. Overall a great local spot though.

For newcomers to the area, Big Chief might be a hidden gem but for long-time locals, it is a staple of the community. Great food that tastes even better when enjoyed on a warm day on the patio. Love the beer selection with local craft choices. Big Chief often participates in community events and, for example, helped raise money for our fallen and injured police officers. It is the oldest existing restaurant on Route 66 and I hope it continues to serve up quality fare for years to come.

First clue was the place was not busy. Went there with a group. Waited a long time for waitress to take our order. Food was not hot when it arrived. "Seasoned" fries barely had any seasoning on them. Meat for "prime rib" sandwich tasted old like it had been from frozen package. Menu states a 18% gratuity added to large groups, but we were charged 20% for the poor food and service.
