I have learned a lot about BBQ over the past few years from Terry Black, founder of Super Smokers BBQ and considered by many to be the Godfather of St. Louis BBQ and consider the new owner Jeff Fitter one of my closest friends. I have eaten a lot of each of their BBQ over the years, but always wondered how that would transition for Jeff in to to cooking for the masses in a restaurant. Well, my first visit to SuperSmokers certainly will not be my last. I ordered the BBQ Nachos, a side of burnt ends, as well as a side of home made mac and cheese and I have to tell you that they were each excellent. The BBQ nachos have been a Super Smoker BBQ staple for years, but the brisket in this nachos really seemed to pack a punch and gave the nachos an added kick that was eventually mellowed by the sweetness of the beans. It was the perfect storm of BBQ goodness. The burnt ends were a bit of a surprise, having not always been on the menu in the past, but they are a staple currently. They were like little cubes of flavored meat candy in your mouth. They were so good, chewing was optional, as they melted when you put them in your mouth. Which leaves me to the mac and cheese. This isnt your standard Velveeta Kraft mac and cheese, this is a homemade baked mach and cheese with the right blend of crispy noodles and browned cheese from being baked just right. This is a newer addition to the menu, and one I was familiar with from Phatsos BBQ catering days. It offered the perfect side for the burnt ends......now if we could just get some of the brisket diced up in the mac and cheese.....that would be money. All in all, such a great experience to see Jeff pick up the torch that Terry carried so well over the years. I cant wait to see Jeff put his own touches on the restaurant in the months to come and am already looking forward to coming back and trying the ribs.

The food wasnt bad and I honestly liked the service I received over the phone when I placed a carry out order. It was when we picked up our order that the service went down hill. They told us to give them 30 minutes to pick up our orders, which was fine. When we went to pick it up, we had to wait 20 extra minutes. Which again, was okay. They gave us bags of food and yes, we should have checked them all before we drove 20 minutes back home. When we got back we realized they forgot to give us one of our orders plus another side. So we called and let them know of the forgotten meal and the young man on the phone got an attitude and said someone already called and told them of the issue. He recited the order and everything. I told him, no. This is the first time we are calling because we just got back and noticed it missing. You just realized that you forgot the order..He continued to not believe me and acted like I was a nuisance for calling. They were low staffed and couldnt deliver it to us and we had to drive back and get it. When we got there, they said they would refund that meal but couldnt do it until morning.....we paid cash. Overall, we were refunded that meal and finally got our entire order. Of course, we had to reheat all of it by the time we were able to actually sit down and eat. I was more upset with the attitude we received when bringing up that our order was missing. Im not oblivious to the fact that they were understaffed and super busy but that shouldnt hinder their customer service.

Extremely disappointed.. It has been a while since I have eaten at Super Smokers, so the wife and i decided to take a ride and have a Sunday lunch at what used to be out favorite BBQ place in the Saint Louis area. I am sad to say it was a terrible experience with really no positive part. First of all, we walk to the counter and were not greeted by the girl who was working the counter.. I had to do the old, "uh is this where i order" comment. As we were ordering, we could see and hear the employees in the back acting unprofessionally as if they were not in a place of business with customers. We did not leave at this point, because we were anticipating the BBQ we remembered. So as we are waiting for our food, we watched the employees coming in and out and noticed how filthy the kitchen area was, but how filthy the employees were. Every kitchen worker we saw looked as if they had used their clothes for towels.. There was food and boxes all over the floor, and none of the employees seemed to be interested in cleaning any part of it. None of this would have been a big deal for me, until i got the food, and the quality was terrible. My wife and I got the 2 item plate. and the pork appeared to be boiled until it was mushy and tasteless, and the beef was dry and tough.. What a shame for a place that used to be the best in the area... Will never return

I am sure this place was great...15 or 20 years ago. I visited this place in the last week of April, 2013. First, the dining area needs a thorough cleaning. The food prep area needs even more cleaning and some repairs, as the cutting board on the make-line was worn & not easily cleaned. Despite my initial alarming assessment, placed an order and got some brisket, pulled pork apple sauce and fries. Didnt try any of sauces, since they were in squirt bottles on the tables (no date marks, no refrigeration, easy access to insects....). The brisket had some smoke flavor but appeared to be steam roasted or braised, as the bark was soft and the beef tasted like prime rib seasoning. The pulled-pork didnt have much smoke flavor and was cold. Both meats were obviously NOT cooked in the past 24, maybe 48 hours and needed a bit more salt IMO. Apple sauce looked to be homemade and was quite tangy with firm chunks of apples. Fries were out of a freezer bag, stunk like bad fryer oil and sprinkled with nasty seasoned salt. Although I didnt get debilitating sick, the next day provided me with some interesting moments on the porcelain chair. Maybe this is St. Louis BBQ???...Kinda like Imos "Snot on a Cracker" Provell Puke pizza. At any rate, I will not be back to Super Smokers!

Very School-cafeteria esq. A small bag of Ruffles constitutes a side item. A table-top BBQ sauce selection on every table offers the extent of a Cosco or Isanti offering. The table we sat at could have used about 4 more legs. I paid an expectations-instilling $11.50 for a brisket sandwich, and the other member in my party the same for a Pulled-Pork sandwich, pickle spear, fries (about 1 Cup of crinkle-cut crumbs) and a drink. Service was fine as they informed me that they did not have the ingredients for my originally ordered BLT. ("Best BLT"-according to the sign in the mens restroom.) The meat was better than expected. Smooth ribbons of room-temp brisket piled on a well-selected Hawaiian style bun stood alone ready for you choice of 7 different sauces. The large Pulled pork sandwich was served warmed and generously on a bun. The Pork had a great texture and was just enough (for lunch). All in all- "Meh" but SuperSmokers BBQ still contributes to my St.Louis-style BBQ opinions.
