Did not see the waiter for some time. However, the atmosphere was great- latin themed paintings on the wall, soccer on the T.V. Salsa and chips were complimentary and the salsa was very good for a restaurant. It wasnt too spicy and there was cilantro in it that gave each bite a rich flavor. The dinner combinations are very generously portioned and our meal was cooked superbly. We ordered the Shrimp Toritos meal as an appetizer and we were blown away. 7 pieces of shrimp and cheese wrapped in bacon made my heart melt before it clogged up and died. I did not know what delicious was until I ate these things, my date and I almost got into a fist-fight over the last one. Luckily she had ordered one of their jumbo margaritas-which are delicious btw- and I was able to fool her with classic misdirection. Even though our waiter was a ghost most of the time, there were servers who came by periodically to refill our drinks so it was hardly noticeable. I would recommend this place to both my friends and strangers in the hope that they would invite me along.

Fantastic food. Great service. Generous portions. Affordable. Awesome Margarita specials. Wish there were more Mexican restaurants like this! [Update: I have since moved to S.W. Florida in 2010. It is extremely depressing given the huge hispanic population, I have been unable to find a Mexican restaurant that offer anything similar to the quality and VARIETY that El Agave or the many "clone" mexican restaurants in the Saint Louis metropolitan area. Here inn Florida, there are lots of so-called "Mexican" restaurants but most serve ONLY a very basic menu of tacos, enchiladas fajitas as well as standard chips and salsa and literally NOTHING else such as Chile Relleno. There is only one restaurant that does offer a broad selection but it is very, very pricey (about $35-$50 per person excluding tip, tax and alcohol so you end up spending over $100 for nice dinner for two!!!) and even then, the food is mediocre with many non-mexican dishes for the tourist crowd. I wish there was a real Mexican restaurant like El Agave in Fort Myers!]

My favorite thing about this place is the food, I like it, my husband likes it and so do my kids. Its great going to a place that everyone will enjoy, so no complaints. But, they also have margarita specials and almost always great service. We go about once a week and a few times we have gotten service that wasnt the best. However, every restaurant has an off night every now and again, but its very few and far between at El Agave. Also wanted mention the staff, we go often enough to be called regulars and they are always so friendly. Even if certain people are not waiting on us, they will come by and say hello. And they seem to really like kids, they will often joke around with mine. This is a great place and I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

Not sure how some people say best Mexican in st Charles. While the margaritas where OK as was the salsa and chips, my fish tacos were fried to a crisp and bland and not much to the garnishments (gasp no lime wedges) my poblano was very bland and the red sauce was watery and had a from can taste to it. The only thing going for it was the cheese. My wifes tacos were bland and dry as was her tamale. As she said "tasted like feet." My sons chicken nachos were dry and bland as well. The chicken was tough and leathery. A waitress seemed lost in her own world. For a decent mexian place try chimis or el maguey. Sorry to say we will not be back.

I recently ate here hoping to find a really good Mexican Restaurant locally. The service was friendly and prompt, and the food came out quickly. Sadly that is all I can say for it. The menu is almost identical to all the others in the area to the point that if they were compared side by side they would be interchangeable. The food came out out, but everything was bland. The Chili Relleno was the best thing on my plate, but it was incredibly small. El Mariachi and El Maguey are both closer to me, and I wouldnt be surprised if all three were owned by the same people. I gave El Agave a chance. I wont be back.

The first few times I came here I had no complaints. The food was great, came how I ordered, and the service was friendly. My last visit was completely different. They were a little busy when we got there so we expected to wait. We were seated right away and chips and salsa were brought to us pretty quick. There was a lot of confusion with our food (we never received cheese dip or grilled jalapeños we requested). In the end we werent charged for them so it wasnt a huge deal, just not as enjoyable as past visits.

Service: 4/5 Friendly, available and attentive. Could serve water without us asking though. Food: 4/5 Excellent fish Tacos. Chips and salsa served before are the usual cheap and bland Mexican fare. Drinks: 1/5 We ordered a large pitcher of Margaritas and it tasted like a mix with (very little) cheap tequila. It was so weak we felt cheated. Atmosphere: 4/5 Inside was comfortable with the Cardinals on the TVs. Outside, was just a fenced in slab of concrete on a parking lot. Uninviting.

Epic!! The food is great! They carry your normal options for a Mexican restaurant, and the prices match about evenly. However, it is the service that forces this restaurant to stand out. All of the servers are friendly, with outstanding people skills. The management team is twice as amazing! On my 21st birthday, this was my first destination. The entire crew really knows how to make you feel at home and welcome! My #1 Restaurant of St. Charles!!!!

Me and my family have been attending this wonderful place since the day it opened ! The food is always delicious and it never seems to fail us. We eat there what feels like every day. The service is so wonderful they feel like our own family. I suggest anyone who wants good authentic Mexican should try el agave. It wont disappoint you.

Im here at least twice, sometimes 3,4,5, times a week as are most of my friends. The service is always fast and with the exception of one or two waiters, they are extremely easy to communicate with. The food is always phenomenal and its pretty reasonably priced. By far my favorite restaurant ever.

Always satisfied food is always fresh and hot be careful of the jalapeños because the are not your typical store bought jalapeños. Try the nachos el agave it is the fantastic, cheap, and will fill you up best with steak and chicken and I get it every single time and it is gets better every time.

El Agave is convenient for lunch, so I gave them more chances than I usually would, but today will be my last visit. The food is rarely better than mediocre, and Ive tried something different almost every visit. The pricing is never consistent and usually higher than the quality warrants.

I have never had such kind a quick service at any other restaurant! Amazing staff had food out fast and was there to make sure we had everything we needed our entire visit. By far the best restaurant I have ever dined at and I definitely plan to go back. I highly recommend.
