As one reviewer mentioned, this is a dive bar. Everything about the establishment speaks to this: cramped, dimly lit, decrepit furniture, even its oddly maze-like back door entrance. And make no mistake, Im no hoighty-toighty prima donna. I love dive bars, and I love a good, greasy burger. This place is that and has that. But, the burger was pretty bland, and even the bacon and pepper jack cheese I had on top of it could not alleviate the need for some salt and pepper. The service wasnt great either. The waitress was pleasant enough I suppose, but after 10 minutes of holding my check up with cash and the waitress passing me at least 5 times without a word I had to get up and ask the bartender for change so I could get back to work. My main gripe is that I dont expect to pay Red Robin prices for a burger and fries. Fries dont come with the burgers and a small basket of their half-cooked limp spuds costs $2.50. Ridiculous. To get a half-pound burger, you have to order a double and pay at least $8. And then my glass of tea cost an additional $2.25 which is pretty standard restaurant price, which I think is also ridiculous, but Im not holding that against the place. So, for a standard burger, fries, drink, tax, and tip it was over $17 for just myself. This place is obviously beloved by many though, so if youre ok with paying a lot for a little, and you love dive bars, this is the spot for you.

First time ever eating at this dive joint. Food was decent service was terrible. We went in around 6 p.m. on a Friday night and it was not even that busy maybe 40 people in the establishment and a lot of them were just drinking. We ordered our food about 10 minutes after we got there we did not receive our food until an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. Mind you there were only two of us. We got the run around from the server and she flat out lied to us about the kitchen being slow but everyone around us that arrived after us had already received their food. We talked to the manager and she only offered to take 5 dollars off our 50 dollar bill. We talked to her again and got them to remove one entree. They continued to blame the cooks but No one knew what we ordered meaning it never made it to the cooks. Service was simply a joke and we will never be returning there and they will not get a good reccomendation to friends or family.

Lunch is good but bad service, she always seems grumpy. Burgers are tasty and i love the waffle fries with their ranch dressing. Prices have went up. I can say differently for the service later in the day. I hosted a happy hour here for my work and the service was 10 times better than during lunch and they are just as busy. Whats with not doing separate tabs for big happy hour parties though? Our waitress kind of helped us out on that and did do it separate but i was told when i first booked that they dont do that. Might lose some large, money making get togethers that way.

The Village Bar is a hidden gem in Des Peres. Its easy to miss even if youre trying to get there (the front door is in the rear of the building out of sight from the street and the signage isnt great). Once you find it, its a great little, local bar that has some terrific burgers (the wings are pretty good too). Though they have more than Bud Light on the beer list, its the kind of place where drinking a good craft beer seems a little out of place. Good spot for a boys night out or a few rounds before heading to the Wehrenberg movie theater right down the street.

Best burgers around (The Better Burger) Waffle fries are great. The cup of chili with cheese and onions always hits the spot. This is one of those dive bar kind of places that has that certain feel to it as you walk inside. And thats a damn good thing. You dont really find that anymore. Ps...DO NOT WALK IN THE FRONT DOOR. Youll look like an idiot! Use the back door like a normal person.

Very good bar food. Never disappointed with anything on the menu. The recent expansion has put a little strain on the kitchen during peak hours. Just be patient, the food and fair prices make it worth it. The new side is bright and feels fresh. The old side is still basically a cozy dark hideout. Always friendly staff and customers.

The burgers and onion rings were very good. I just have a problem with serving customers with Styrofoam and paper napkins like white Castles have. As good as the burgers are and seems like a mom and pop kinda place, they need to buy some plates or do like bbq places do with wax paper on trays.

Service was horrendous. We arrived @845pm. I made eye contact with a waitress upon entering. There were maybe 10 patrons in the entire restaurant. We were not acknowledged for 15 minutes, so we left and went to 3 kings down the street.

Most of the customers in here have been going for decades. Theres sort of a nice Cheers vibe. Reasonable drink and food prices. Theyve also just updated their second room with new flooring and lots more screens.

Visiting from Quincy, Illinois. Excellent food and waitress. Made a fresh pot of coffee and was the best coffee I had in St. Louis. Glad this friendly bar was kept here..enjoyed our Village Bar experience.

The food was very good and the staff was friendly. The building was built in the 1800s and the decor looks great! Recommend for some lunch. Reasonably priced even though everything is a la carte.

Better burger n fries plus a cold bud, couldnt be better for food. Obnoxious outspoken Republican dropping sentence by sentence fbombs harshest my lunch slightly. Still always love the Village.

I love the village bar but after the expansion it is very obvious that the kitchen cannot keep up with the number of customers. Dont be in a hurry if you come here to eat

This place does have some very good bar food, but with slow service a very rude staff and a sub par beer selection I wouldnt go in with high expectations.

Fun little dive bar. Just bought the next door location so now is twice as big. Apps are good, burgers are good, drinks are cheap.

They have expanded but have the same staff and kitchen capacity. Still a great place, just be prepared to wait a long time.

Cook has brain of a pea on timeliness of sending food out. Burger tasted great but rings came out 11 min later. Ouch.
