I went to Tavern on the Hill for a very special birthday with 4 friends. We EACH ORDERED THE SAME THING - steak! Two ordered medium well, one well done and two ordered medium. We received two medium well, one well done and one medium with one still mooing. It was marked as "rare". The meat was still cold it was so "rare. I asked the waitress to send it back for just a few more minutes because I ordered medium. She took it AND NEVER RETURNED! My friends were finishing up with their dinner and someone finally walked by and I grabbed him and asked him if he could please check on it. A manager came over and said he would comp it and it would be one more minute. Another person came over and said it would be one more minute. 10 minutes later it came. It was half of the steak cooked WELL DONE. I had no choice but to accept it. I was looking forward to a nice meal and the others stated that their steaks were very good. The problem was the waitress was trying to show off and didnt write anything down, just took our order. Then I dont know what happened in the kitchen but my steak was lost, then ruined. I wont return. Even though they replaced it, they never got it right.

Family friendly, excellent walleye. Six of us went, found a parking spot right in front on Grand in spite of falling snow, and found a great table in back. The atmosphere is woodsy Up North, with a healthy dose of St. Paul pub. Two of us had the walleye & fries appetizer, which was lightly breaded and delicious, and plenty of food for a meal. Two of us had the Shore Lunch, which they both gave thumbs us for the walleye and pan-seared veggies (very healthy). One little one had the hamburger, which arrived as two sliders in a basket with fries and was almost too much food. Our last member had a corned-beef melt, and while I forgot to ask her about food, she took half of it home in a box, so it must have been good. Service was very nice, not too intrusive, but there when we needed something. Prices seem very reasonable given the tasty food and great atmosphere. Wed definitely go back, and wed recommend to friends, especially anyone from out of town.

During a recent trip to the Twin Cities, I was able to make my way to this excellent restaurant for a great walleye fillet. I had the Early Bird Special with my walleye grilled and my potato baked. I had never had walleye before, but I will have it again if I have opportunity. This fish was seasoned and cooked perfectly. My wife, who doesnt really like fish, even enjoyed a few bites of this. My wife had the Bleu Burger, and she enjoyed it very much. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I take anyone staying near the airport or that Im picking up from the airport here. Perfect modern restaurant example of Minnesota food. The walleye is not a gimmick, they serve some of the best Ive ever had - and Ive cooked my own wild-caught same-day. The beer selection is excellent and the atmosphere pleasant - you can have a pleasant conversation even when busy. My only suggestion would be to add a server or two, but thats true of anywhere.

IMAO; I think this was originally a decent bar then, as an after thought someone decided to add a kitchen. This place is a special for locals. If youre a tourist or new in town, you might have issues. The service was slap stick; (the waitress seem under paid and over worked) the food was below average and very over priced. The bottle beer exactly as I expected and was very instrumental in washing out the taste of "Tavern on Grand"

Met family there for lunch today. It was my first time there. The waitress was nice enough and the service was fine, but I was not at all impressed with my food. I ordered the French dip. A more accurate name for it would be a pot roast sandwich. The meat was tough and dry, and the sandwich came on soggy wheat bread. The cheese was pretty much tasteless. French fries were mediocre. Cant say Id be too eager to go back.

Service was slow. Got a fish bone lodged in my tonsils which took 2 trips to the doctor. Notified the manager, they did pay for the entree which was the mn rice bowl with walleye on top which I dont recommend. Fish needs to be off on the side to be able to find bones. I notified the manager I had to go to the doctor twice, wondering if they would consider helping with my copayment. I never received a phone call back.

We decided to eat locally, my parents are in town visiting from California. We ate at the Tavern two nights in a row... after being up at Lake Vermilion and not catching a thing for a week it was nice to have some awesome walleye. By the way my two girls cant get enough of your chicken strips :) Well you have some regulars when theyre in town from California. Thanks for your awesome service!!!

We came to have lunch and were very excited to have the walleye. I ordered walleye tacos, not liking jalapeños, I was picking through my tacos and found an extremely long hair. My server was great, apologized many times but NEVER once did the manager offer an apology or compensation, like a manager SHOULD!!!! We ended paying for what my husband eat and I left hungry...What a SHAME!!!

Visited for Fathers Day, and wasnt sure what to expect. It turned out to be an cabin-in-the-woods-esque restaurant featuring walleye. Im not a fresh-fish lover, but the place also did a great hamburger. I would probably work on freshening up the decor inside the restaurant a bit and standardize your seating options (tables had different types of chairs, it was odd).

This restaurant specializes in walleye. In most cases, you can get it fried, blackened or grilled. Fries are crispy, flavorful. I would definitely describe the atmosphere here as relaxed. Feels homey, people sitting at the bar reading the paper... Not trendy, but in a good way.

The food was okay, but I thought the menu prices were pretty high for what you get in return. If youre looking for walleye specifically, then I would recommend Tavern on Grand. However, if you are just looking for a random new restaurant to try, I would look elsewhere.

Went for the walleye after reading good reviews and a review in the Oprah magazine. Disappointed. Walleye was dry and overcooked. French fries nothing to boast about. Cole slaw had no flavor. Nice friendly staff though.

Pub environment and pub menu. But you neednt spent too long with the menu -- people come here for the signature walleye in various presentations from sandwiches to tacos to dinners. Quick, friendly service.

The walleye was superb as was the lefse and beer selection and service and homemade salad dressings and potato patties. My family loved it - best value for the money we have had in a long long time.

Great location, close to shops and walk around after a good meal. Went for lunch and did the shore lunch special...very reasonably priced on their walleye meals (roughly $13 for sandwich of filet).
