I dont think Ive ever written a negative review publicly, but our experience at Salut merits it. Were not fussy people at all, just appreciate good food and good service. Salut had neither. Here are the objective facts so you can make your call from my review. Reservation for Sunday 5/9 at 5:15pm. Was seated very promptly ahead of our reservation at the patio. Hostess greeted us and was very warm. I let her know that my wife is on a gluten-free diet due to a medical condition. She said that would be no problem and that our server would know more on how to guide us in choosing from the menu. Patio was beautiful and airy. Great arrangement. Waited then 15 minutes before we were approached by our server. had to flag our great hostess down to see if we were going to be served. Waiter approached us roughly 5 minutes later. No greeting or apology for the wait. I preceded to tell him that my wife has a medical condition and has a gluten-free diet. We could use his help navigating the menu. No reaction or response from waiter. No acknowledgement that he understood or could help. Finally after about 15 seconds of silence, my wife just stated politely that she will have the Cobb salad with grilled chicken. Sat for another 30 minutes, wondered maybe that the service for the patio was a little different than what we would have gotten inside. Friends ordered fettuccini and smoked salmon. I had burger done medium. For 18 dollars for a salad, one might expect either very high quality ingredients and/or a larger portion. Portion was akin to what you would get at an Applebees- chicken was dry and flavorless, again akin to Applebees. Burger was done rare: rare as in dark-red in the middle with some red juice. Burger was 15 dollars once cheese and bacon were added. We didnt see the server again until we flagged the hostess down to let her know that we were ready for the check. Three empty tables around us; we ruled out attributing the slow and gruff service to any busy-ness or understaffing. Let waiter know that we needed separate checks- Response was, "oh". My friends then sensing how much we were inconveniencing the waiter preceding to let us know that they could pay. Luckily we all had enough cash to save the waiter the hassle of swiping two cards. There are far better options on Grand ave; even with the nice patio, Salut is not worth our time.

We were celebrating our son and his girlfriends college graduation plus meeting her parents for the first time and we were having a wonderful time, great food and service, fun drinks, and really impressive dessert and we were just getting ready to leave when a patron from another table came over and said, "I just cant take it any more, you people are so rude"!! He kept going on and on and my son got up and said, "we are just having a good time, mind your own business". The manager handled this very wrong; if we were being that disruptive, he shouldve come over long before this customer felt he had to deal with it, and asked us to quiet down; we are not unreasonable people. We were leaving anyway for crying out loud! Then on the way out one of the hostesses said to my husband, "you should be ashamed of yourselves"!! WHY?? And then a pregnant bus girl was outside on the phone evidently calling her boyfriend (who mustve lived nearby) as he came over to the parking lot, stood in front of our car, and threatened my husband saying, "What are saying to my girl, I can take you out, I can take you out old man"! Really?! And then, to top it off, the manager gives our friends at our table a business card and a $50 gift card apologizing for us?! What the heck?! That makes no sense whatsoever!! Wow...we will never set foot in this place again. I would like to speak to the Owner about this situation please. Our only crime was having too much fun and management not managing. Unprofessional to say the least. Unbelievable.........

Im not sure how this place doesnt have better reviews; but it sounds like people are coming to this restaurant in hopes of getting an affordable burger, which isnt at all what Salut is known for. I knew that Salut was an upscale restaurant with a variety of menu options, so when my parents were visiting for a concert at Xcel Energy Center, I made a dinner reservation at Salut on Grand Ave. We were pleasantly surprised by the high level of service and the delicious cuisine. Our wonderful waiter, Charles, was friendly and very professional. He knew the entire menu in detail, and gave us great drink recommendations. After serving us the complimentary mini french baguettes (yum), Charles presented us with a small plate of garlic mousse shrimp bruschetta (yum x 2), compliments of the chef. It was the perfect little starter and a very nice gesture. Our entire dinner order consisted of: the happy hour Salut Sliders & Artichoke Flatbread, the Mustard Salmon, and the Petite Tender Steak. We all shared and tried each of our dishes with each other, and we were extremely pleased with everything. The sliders & flatbread were perfect portion sizes and tasted great. The salmon and lentils were grilled to perfection. The steak was of high quality and cooked exactly how my dad ordered it; medium. The mashed potatoes melted in your mouth. We loved everything that we ordered; regardless of the slightly high prices. Thank you for making our dinner such an enjoyable experience. We will be back!

This is our second time eating at Salut, and both times weve been underwhelmed. I keep expecting the food to be better than it is, perhaps because its always busy? We went for Happy Hour on a Sunday this time. I ordered one of their specials for a drink - the Business Time - and while I expect Happy Hour drinks to be watered down this was incredibly weak. Especially when compared with the full price drink I ordered later. We started off with two appetizers - the garlic crostini and the steak tartare. The whipped goat cheese spread with the crostini was good (though there wasnt much of it), but the olive tapenade was waaaay too salty. And I love olives. The steak tartare was bland. Im not sure if the chips that came with it were supposed to be used for scooping it up,but they crumbled to pieces when I tried. Second round of appetizers we went for the sliders and the profteroles. The sliders were fine, though the fries that came with them looked and tasted like they came out of a bag labeled frozen. Not what Id expect for the price point. The profiteroles were, again, bland, though the sauce on the plate was good. In summary, I think location and its nice patio are driving this restaurants popularity, not its food.

My girlfriend and I stopped by for a quick bite last night at Salut. We ended up settling for a simple cheeseburger & fries (split between the two of us), one glass of the cheapest wine, one beer, and a side of sweet potatoes. Food was fine - but nothing special. We were floored when our bill arrived as $50 in total. The house sauce that we "had to try" was itemized out at $3.00, and nothing special (we used the ketchup) . Caramelized onions on that burger? Another $2.00. Your food is of okay quality (burger was fine - fries were below average), but your service and prices leave much to be desired. Your prices are outrageous even before you start to nickel and dime on top of it. In the end, its that last piece on the nickel and diming that we will not return to Salut. A good restaurant would offer things like the house sauce free of charge to its customers, not for use as a cheap cash cow to rack up the bill. For $50 we will grab our meal at a steak house next time instead.
