My clan of four, along with my parents and my sisters family of five all met at Forest Lake for the Mothers Day buffet. I had never been to Forest Lake for anything other than supper, and didnt know what to expect from the buffet. I was pleasantly surprised! This being small-town northern Minnesota there wasnt a ton of imagination in the buffet, which comprised the usual Mothers Day suspects: Eggs Benedict, waffles, hash browns, seasoned potatoes, carved turkey and ham, etc. But what it may have lacked in innovation, it made up for with good execution and friendly service. Buffet items were kept fresh, and were tasty (if a bit heavy, on balance). The scrambled eggs were certainly lighter and more flavorful than the typical bland yellow mass you see at buffets like this. The desserts were probably the weakest point, but since I need to shed a few pounds anyway, that wasnt a big miss for me. All in all, my family was very happy with it, and plan to return next year.

A+ for effort. This review is pertaining to the steakhouse in the bottom floor. This restaurant has a different eating section than the bar/restaurant upstairs. I ordered the fish cakes for and appetizer and the steak and ribs for an entree. Pros: The wait staff was friendly, well dressed, and professional, and prompt. The food was served fast. The presentation was well done. The steak was cooked exaclty as ordered. Cons: Neither the salad, appetizer, or the entree were spectacular. The salad was underwhelming, the fish cakes reminded me of frozen fish sticks even though I could tell they were homemade. The ribs were overcooked. The steak was decent.

Combo appetizer plate was disgusting..onion rings overcooked, cheese sticks overcooked and mushrooms overcooked and sparse. Rice tasteless, but it was rice. "GRIILLED REUBEN" wasnt grilled; just dry toast with a slight smear of thousand island on 1 slice, 1 single thin slice Swiss cheese (maybe) on the other slice, totally tasteless sauerkraut(???) and the corned beef was either boiled or washed clean of ANY spices or taste, if it was in fact corned beef. The dips were old and crusted (nacho cheese and salsa) into the cups. The water, however, was cold and the salmon OK. LOTS OF MUSTARD helped the Reuben go down. Thank you so much.

This place sucks. The waitress was very sweet and tried to accommodate my request but they still couldnt get my Denver amulet right. They never saluted the green peppers or the onions. The amulet came out looking like scrambled eggs. The only one that apologized was the waitress even though the manager stood right at the register and took my money for my juice and coffee. So not only didnt I get an apologe from Management but they still charged me after all my group finished there food. I was the only one they screwed up the order. Will not be coming back.

Went here with a group of about ten friends. The service was good and most people thought the food was great. The two in the group that ordered the steak special thought it was over done, so maybe avoid the specials and stick to the regular menu. I had a really great stuffed manicotti with basil tomato sauce and shrimps with a side of guda mashed potatoes. I really enjoyed my meal and time at the restaurant. There are two restaurants here, upstairs and downstairs, and they dont serve the same food, so make sure you pick the right one.

Service and food is great. They have the best ribs I have ever had. You better make sure you have plenty of time to eat here before you go because a meal with about six people can be an hour and a half or better start to finish. Dont take that the wrong way however, it is definitely worth the going and that time investment. Prices are reasonable as well and dinners usually include fresh bread and soup or salad. You want the chicken wild rice soup when they ask soup or salad, just and FYI

Excellent Excellent food. Every part of our meal was done to perfection! Appetizers, main course and dessert. Our dinner was so good we went back for breakfast the next morning and it also was equally excellent. Weve already made plans to go again in two weeks. All I can say is that Im glad I dont live closer to it, because Id gain a thousand pounds. The food is dangerously good! Finally! Someone has done food right.

Ate dinner downstairs of Forest Lake. Great food. Steak cooked to perfection. Good Fish. Overall a great meal. Great service. This place could use some improvements around the building. One of the reasons this place does not get 5 stars is because the restroom. It was horrible. Absolutely needs a complete renovation even a port o potty would be an improvement. Otherwise great place.

There are two separate menus: upstairs and downstairs. They have good drink specials, appetizers, wild rice soup, and Steakhouse type menu items. The View of the lake its really nice. If youre stopping by for lunch upstairs youll find lighter sandwiches and soup options but if youre looking for a date night or Steakhouse meal downstairs is the place to be.

Great restaurant dont forget about the Steakhouse which is separate from the upstairs diner style restaurant. Always had the filet because its its a great cut. Lounge is a nice place to meet up for drinks as well. I dont ever recall having a bad meal here & I think I first went in the late 70s. Used to live within walking distance.

We were in town for a wedding and found this place for breakfast. Pleasantly surprised! Great food and large portions for a good price. Spotted what appeared to be a number of locals, which says something! Would definitely go here again.

It can be hard to find a decent place to eat in northern MN in the winter. This place was not only open, but we got right in on a Friday evening and had a really nice meal. Pretty impressivem menu and very good service. Ill be back.

Consistently decent food and service here. Nice views of the lake from upstairs. The decor is nice if a little dated. You are gonna want to make reservations ahead of time if you want a table for dinner on the busier nights.
