Service was horrible, the burgers were mediocre and the beers were small. Buddy and I make it a point to meet up and try different local places every couple months. Id heard how great the Lions Tap was, so we went. The only positive is I got my "Worst Place to Eat of the Year" out of the way in January. My buddy ordered a cheeseburger, which came with an average size patty (like the ones youd grill at home) without any special seasoning, a piece of lettuce and slice of cheese, served on a bun no more interesting than what youd get at the grocery store. I paid the extra for a California burger, which added a slice of tomato. The French fries reminded me of the ones you keep in a bag in your freezer. Not bad, but not worth writing home about either. Then there was the service… It’s seat yourself, which is fine, so we picked a booth. There were maybe 4 other groups there and place could seat 3 times that. The server came over right away and asked what we were having. When my buddy asked for a beer list, she kinda groaned and began listing off what they have to offer. Once we picked our beers, she asked what we wanted to eat. We had a sort of lost look and in a rather irritated tone, she explained the menus are on the wall. We ordered, our server brought our food and drinks a couple minutes later and never came to our table again. She was still there working. She went to some other tables, but never once came even close to our table again. My beer was finished about halfway through my burger, so I put my empty glass near the edge of the table to make it obvious I was dry. Nothing. When both of us had consumed everything on our table, we stopped a server who was helping the table next to us and asked for another round of beers and my friend ordered another burger since he was still hungry. The food and drinks were then brought fairly quickly and the check dropped off with them. We ate our food and part way through, left the money and check at the edge of the table because we needed change. Again, we finished all our food and drink and not once did anyone check on us. After a few minutes, we flagged down a third server (the first could still be seen busily talking to another employee and the second had grabbed her jacket and left) to take our check. (There is a sign that says to pay your server) In all, of the 75 min or so we spent there, at least 40 was spent with one of us having an empty drink. I don’t know how this place got it’s positive reputation, but I will never eat there again and would not recommend it to anyone else.

Dont be afraid to take a date here. Ive been dating my current girlfriend for over 3 years, and that relationship was cemented on our first date right here at the Lions Tap. These burgers rock! Many people will proclaim themselves an authority on an assortment of fine foods. Myself, I have made it my life mission to eat the best burger in the world. In pursuit of this dream I have tried burgers all over the world. As a resident of Boston, Ill attest that some of the best patty ensembles are available there; from the classic meat wad/pub burger at Cambridge Brewing Company, to the faux fast food look a like of Flat Patties in Harvard square. Ive had it all, if happiness is a multiple of the pounds that Ive gained... I am one happy bastard. But my burger travels have extended far from my home, and thats my point. I have burgered in New York (some epic Shake Shack) California (In-N-Out), even gorged on some gorgeous beef in London, and I had a modest attempt in France (honestly stick with your strengths, Coq au vin is delicious.... youre just not up the challenge here) But the best burger in the world? Yeah its in Minnesota. Its in this place that you have to drive to the middle of nowhere to get to. Its not served on a delicate fancy brioche roll, or drenched in a soft truffle sauce. Its just plain old delicious cow meat (probably fed corn they way any good subsidized American cow should be). Get some fries too, and at the end of the day pay cash... because this burger is dirt cheap.

My family and I have been coming here for years. Dont pay attention to the reviews that state the burger is "undercooked" and that the servings are "small" and "overrated". The simplicity of presentation speaks for itself. The burger doesnt need any fancy dressings, or hoity toity fries. The deliciousness of the patty stands up on its own, and speaks volumes about the quality. The simple crinkle cut fries they offer, only compliment the mouth watering burger. Any toppings other than a tomato, lettuce and pickle would detract from the pure goodness of the patty. The meat is fresh, and perfectly cooked to order if you truly know the difference between the meat tenderness scale. The service could use some work now and then, but for the most part, its an establishment that thrives on efficiency. If you come in with that understanding, then you wont be disappointed. The menu, once again is simple and direct. You can be in and out in less than 30 minutes if youre in a hurry. Ive tried to find a place that comes any where near the goodness that is Lions Tap, and I still have not found it yet, and I dont anticipate to EVER find it.

Ive lived less than two miles away from this place for over 10 years and stopped by a week ago for the first time. I love a good classic burger, and this place had it. The fries are plain, but they go really well with the burger (I had a California Cheese--medium done, as per the servers suggestion). Went there a week later, and loved it even more because the waitress brought out mayo this time (always ask for mayo). Finally, I must say this place has THE BEST PREMIUM DRAFT ROOT BEER ON THE PLANET. Im sure of it. Im definitely going to become a regular. My meal is under $10 every time, but I with a tip, youre looking at around $12-$13 per person. Its worth it. Promise. If youve ever seen the movie Juno, this place looks like it belongs in that movie. Very midwestern cliche--and I love it. Nice people, quirky interior, great burgers, best root beer.

They do one thing, greasy burgers, and they do it perfectly. This is an ideal hole in the wall bar/burger joint that I always make a point of hitting when I travel through the region. The complaints I have seen about pink meat (hello, they tell you when ordering and ask if that is OK), no desserts, MSG, and the atmosphere not being to their rarefied tastes are laughable. There is NOTHING meant to be healthy about this place and anyone counting calories, sodium, gluten, or whatever fruitcake California trend is in vogue should stay away. This place is about burgers, fries and beers. The smell upon entering makes the carnivore within me weep with delight while serving as a deterrent to vegans and other such undesirables which may wander in.
