This place has very bad customer service from when you first walk through the door. Made a reservation for my sisters birthday this past Monday for 9:00pm we arrived 10 minutes before , we didnt get seated until 9:17 pm mind you there was three adults and two small children. We check in the chubby japanese guy explains theres a 18 percent gratuity charge.! I asked for what we dont have a party of 8 people he said tge policy changed I explained that the new policy should be explained online when you make a reservation and since when there charging for three adults 18 percent it makes no sense. Finally once we were seated the waitress was rude when taking orders she kept saying "come on hurry up" while we were deciding what we wanted to eat off menu .The cook Stan was excellent with making our food but the waitress was terrible she brings us soup and salad then expects us to grab it off tray ourselves, she didnt removed use dishes off table then she didnt even refill none of our beverages we had to keep asking then she doesnt come back for 25min like what the hell my mother or ordered the benihana delight with a lobster tail on side the waitress didnt even put lobster on there so luckily the cook ask for it from the kitchen once my mom said something about it , I asked to due a carry out to Go the waitress says no we dont do carry outs from table you have to do it once your done eating which I never heard of that. Then everytime you try to get her attention she says what you want like lady who are you talking to. These people have a big DIVERSITY ISSUE at this place of business. My mother seen manager across at another table that was having a problem because her waitress didnt get her order right so lady didnt ever get her full meal she only recieve meat there saying she still had to pay for full meal so Im looking like while so my mom is like excuse me tge manager acting as if she doesnt hear us trying to tell her about the problems we had a guy walks up says hes the assistant manager and says whats the problem you dont want to pay the bill , my moms like the bill isnt the issue its about the customer service hes like ok what do you want me to do if you dont have a problem paying the bill, why am I here so I decided to join in and explain that he is very rude as well hes like ok ok lets pay the bill and do even exchange like wtf has this man lost his mind so my mother paid the tab he left to get change two employees came to the table explaining that the cook agreed with everything we were complaining about and tge two girls said their always rude. The guy came back telling his staff dont talk to us and held his hand very high like he didnt want to touch my mothers hand , I said you act as if your scared to give her change he then said in front of staff and our table he didnt want to touch her hand and get dirty ! Not to mention they didnt even sing my sister Happy Birthday or anything.That hit it off I will make sure I never recommend this place ever again . If you dont have respect or diversity trainning you should not be running any type of business.

This would be our second time returning to this place, the food was great and we were happy with everything the first time but todays visit wasnt as we expected. We made a reservation for 7:30pm and decided to just walk in around 5pm, so we asked the front desk how long the wait is, it was a 45 min wait so we decided to wait and i clearly informed them to cancel our 7:30 reservation and we waited... 45 minutes past no one approach us, and after over an hour I went and asked the front desk "how much longer will my table be ready?" and told them that weve been waiting for over an hour. Hes reply was "oh! What had happen is you have a reservation at 7:30. You will need to wait." What? So I have to wait til 7:30? It was 6:20! To make it short, this guy who works in the front desk doesnt know how to approach costumers and be understanding. Instead of saying "Im sorry your table would be ready shortly", he told me "would you like me to do I walk you in? Or your reservation?" After waiting such a long time you ask me that question????? What really upset me was that we patiently waited for over an hour and not once we were approached by the host about our table. I am a server and a hostess, for over ten years, and we have never left a waiting costumer for that long or uninformed. It was supposed to be a great dinner night for my daughters 15th birthday but what a waste of time waiting.. yet the food, server, and chef were great. I just wish the host was more attentive of what is going on and more considerate.

***Racist restaurant*** I experienced unlawful racial discrimination at 1985 W. Big Beaver Road Benihana in Troy Michigan. I have been to benihana before and had a great time but the experience varies because there are many different staff. I came with a birthday party of 12-13 guests and Ying was the server for my table of six. A guest And I changed our mind & wanted sherbert that she had offered. At first we thought she was jokingly saying my guy friend could have ice creme and I could not or joking when she said that he would get his Ice creme for free & I would have to pay extra for mine. Well she was not being sarcastic she came back with only one bowl of sherbert for my friend and none for me. The other guests at my table witnessed this. I was disgusted with her actions. we got our bills, I paid cash.Ying dropped off our checks & vanished she had not brought all of my change back & took it upon herself to take out a suggested 18% tip which I did not authorize nor did she mention anything about it. She did not come back after that & I was ready to leave. I was highly unsatisfied with this vist, the poor customer service, and the unlawful acts endured. I do not plan to visit this location any longer. If I could rate 0 to .5 stars I would!

I have mixed feelings about Benihana. This was the place, my wife and I had our first date, so thats a great thing. The food is still great but i feel the restaurant has become like a mass production cookie cutter restaurant. Ive been to benihana and this particular location a number of times and it seems each visit gets shorter and shorter. What was nice about Benihana is that you could literally spend a couple hours watching your food get made, eat, and enjoy some decent conversation with strangers. This visit was about an hour; in and out. The cooks are still fantastic but it seems that they are rushed to get you in and out as quickly as possible. The food is still excellent and the price is reasonable for all you get. I had the benihana delight which included chicken and jumbo shrimp. I was disappointed that I didnt get my green tea at the end but its not a big deal. If you never been, I highly recommend the experience. If you have been, its probably better just to go to the bar, have a cocktail and get your meal to go because the experience has lost its luster from years past.
