For the short of it Yen King is the best Amerinese restaurant in Jackson. That being said that doesnt exactly make it a Michelin stared establishment as it does have its ups and its downs, though if youre deadset on Chinese in the Jackson local area youd be a fool not to eat here. The Food: The food here is delicious all thing considered. Everything Ive ordered was quite good, Yen Kings dishes have a freshness and quality to them that most if not all light-up-menu Chinese establishments lack, still its apparent that things like the appetizer menu items come out the freezer, and other things arent as fresh as they could be but I suppose you cant win them all. The portions are good, they typically do not skimp on single order dishes though in the past I have noted a portion size reduction when ordering specials and combos. The Rest: Sitting down and eating at Yen King is a strange yet somehow enjoyable experience, their decor is decidedly authentic, the seating is vast, its never too crowded, and their bar is well stocked. But all of this is a little off-put sometimes by the fact that much of the waitstaff, including the owner are typically huddled around watching a large TV (Which is usually airing Fox News or CNBC) stationed over the kitchen portal which is a strange sight considering most of the time the rest of the place is so empty. The waitstaff, which for the longest time consisted of only one man who is apparently either the owners son or grandson, are very professional mainly including the aforementioned young man who is very quiet and polite to a fault. The prices at Yen King are a bit steep though the delicious food and decent portions make up for this somewhat and if you want decent Chinese in Jackson you really have no other choice but to pay, do you?

AMAZING!!! VERY good meal! Accommodated all my allergy issues so that I could enjoy dinning out - Chinese!!! Exceptional quality in fresh ingredients; made everything fresh to order . . . gluten free, onion/garlic free and NO MSG!!! Thank you Yen King! Yes, the prices are a little more than typical Chinese but this dining is NOT TYPICAL!!! Way more than worth the few extra $$ to get SUPERIOR quality cuisine, service, clean inviting atmosphere and attention to every detail. I was there in the middle of the afternoon on a weekend - so cant speak to dining when they might be serving a packed dining room. Given my special dietary requirements, I try to dine outside of normal meal hours so I dont upset the kitchen staff with a special order. I am grateful and will definitely return for the best, "cleanest" Chinese Food I have EVER eaten!

We have been visiting Yen King regularly for last 3 years. We love the food. However, an incident last night left us extremely disappointed . We were done with the food and asked for the bill . The bill was provided to us which showed that we had to pay 55$. Upon calculating we found that they had erroneously charged us for 4 extra dollars. We asked for clarification from the owner and were informed that besides the service tax, we were being charged for the tips to be provided to the servers. This is quite surprising that we had never encountered this in any of our earlier trips. As far as our knowledge goes, tips are entirely voluntary . Hence to be charging the customer a standard amount as a tip is totally wrong in my view. This incident has left a very bad impression in my mind.

I was just looking through the reviews and either there is a competing restaurant writing fake reviews or the people have this place confused with someplace else. There is no way at any time of day or night the service is bad. No way. The owner is always there and runs a tight ship. Also, the food. It is amazing. Not just good. Amazing. I have travelled to 42 countries, and I am a "foodie". This is absolutely the best place to eat in Jackson. Period. There is no one who can deny they have the best egg rolls, or the best hot & sour soup in the world! The crab Rangoon, the shish kabob, or the paper wrapped chicken. The princess beef, or chicken, is the best curry. Cashew chicken is also great. Anyway, there is my review I am going there tonight! :)

Yen King still has the best Chinese food in Jackson but the value for the dollar has gotten less in recent years. The high prices used to be justified by the large portions that were served. While some items still give you this value most portion sizes have been cut drastically. The worst value is the kids meal, $5 for two tiny pices of chicken and a tiny portion of fries. I wont be ordering for my kids from the kids meals again, instead will order dinner items to share.

I went to Yenking because of word of mouth and reviews and I was very disappointed. The brown rice was sticky with only one pea and one slice of onion and didnt seem fried at all. The iced tea tasted like straw. The decor was nice. I would never eat there again. The egg rolls were ok but not great. I am living in Jackson temporarily on a work contract and I will get Chinese take out from another restaurant whose food is much better.

I took my family there and it was the best chinese food I have had in quite a while. The food seemed fresh, vegetables cooked just right and everything was just great. The place seemed clean. It costs more than the Chinese restaurants in town but the food was excellent. I would definitely go there again. Just a follow up. We went there again recently and it is still excellent. We have always been pleased with this place.

Terrible. Service was awful, price was extremely high for what you got. They will not substitute lo mien for their fried rice (you can pay 11.95+ for your meal and then pay 10.95 for lo mein...and they make you share a bowl of fried rice) food was mediocre at best vegetables were way under cooked flavor was blah I had curry chicken and my husband had sweet & sour. Definitely will not go back.

Best Chinese food in Jackson. The General Tsos and Princess Chicken dishes are our favorite dishes. The Crab Rangoon and egg rolls are superb. The restaurant décor is stylish and the hostess/owner is always friendly and gracious. We eat there all the time. The price of the food is very good and I always have enough leftover to take to work.

The food was not good at all. The Lo Mein tasted and smelled like a petting zoo! My husband and I got very ill after eating there. We will not go there again. Only restaurant I have never had problems with was a place in Hamburg, MI called Dragon Court. They have the best food!

This is the best Chinese food around. Everything is cooked to order, and very quickly. Great for dine in or take out. Owners run the restaurant and cook the food - they are extremely proud of their accomplishment of owning Yen King, so they put their whole heart into everything.
