Ive been here a couple of times in the past two months (4/13-6/13), both times Ive had similar experiences. Yes, the people are nice, but unless youre ordering directly off the menu, Ive found it hard to get custom combination plates ordered. In my opinion, I would like to get a dinner plate with half orders of two entrees, even if Im paying whole price for the more expensive of the two. Wait time was expected, 7-12 minutes, not problem there. Now the food. I dont know if the people in the kitchen are aware of the food that is being dished out, but it has yet to be a pleasant experience for me. Sure, the food I received is the food I ordered, but not in many ways the food I expected. There is no pizzazz, or passion, or to say the least desire to please the guest. Like I said, I got what I ordered, but at what cost? The rice was the best part, so thats saying something, but the meats and egg rolls seem like they were reheated or frozen and warmed instantly. There is no desire for me to eat here again, and I guess I would also like to state that I dont consider myself a food snob, but for the 10-15 bucks I spent there, I would rather get a decent sandwich and pop across the street at the Red Crown. Ethnic food in a dominantly white neighborhood is always a welcoming endeavor, but crappy ethnic food is, to say the least, a poor experience. I hope the food gets better, and the cooking staff chooses to stop cutting corners. If I hear good reviews in the future, Ill stop by again, but until then, best of luck Summer Palace.

Not fair of me to wait so long to review. I love Asian food, and have tried several different types at numerous different locations, and this is hands down the best deal for your money. On top of that, their sushi is some of the best that I have ever had. I went on a spree one month and spent over $200 on sushi from this place, and in hindsight it was worth every penny. As I see others have noticed, the garden roll is amazing, and the crunch roll is worth trying as well. Thanks for sticking around, and thanks for upping your game! (Also try the pan fried dumplings)

Im a long haul truck driver that delivers freight to the Chrysler Jefferson assembly plant on Conner st in Detroit; Delivery was fast and the food was great. To me presentation is everything, the sushi I ordered was fresh, summer palace even threw in chopsticks to eat the ginger and sushi with. a gentleman took my order and notice I did not have a menu so he suggested things I should try , he did not rush me and was polite through it all; This is upscale Chinese at its best for the working class individual like myself.

In the Grosse Pointe area, this is the go-to joint for your typical sweet & sour chicken-esque Chinese food. The food is flavorful, and tasty. The vegetables are unlike many other Chinese restaurants Ive had. It seems the vegetables are freshly bought because theyre full of color and not soggy like many others Ive experienced, speaking as an amateur food connoseur. The owners are such kind people, and recognize all their customers who return frequently. Expect to be greeted with a large smile.

The few words I type here could not even begin to describe the amazing food Summer Palace serves. I have been a customer since I was little and my parents would order from them. More of a take out place but they do have seats and I believe they let people eat in. Wonderful staff who definitely know what theyre doing when it comes to good Chinese food. 10/10 every time.

Always good, hot and fresh food here. The wait can feel long sometimes but it has ALWAYS been worth it for me. Of course like most Chinese restaurants in Detroit you get a big portion for what you pay for

Having lived in China and really enjoying Chinese cuisine, Id have to tell anyone looking for good food to stay away from this place. Fairly expensive, large portions but lacking in flavor.

Recently remodeled and didnt hike the prices. Friendly folk who enjoy serving top quality food. Try the crab rangoon, better get two orders if you have more than two eating them.

Good Chinese food. Not great but reasonable price and the only Chinese food in town. Sushi bar is nice addition. There Crab Rangoon is probably one of the better that I have had.
