NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR PEOPLE OF COLOR This restaurant was highly recommended to me, the reception was a real disappointment. When we walked in, the owner of the restaurant rushed over to the host us, backed us and began muttering furiously. The host stood shocked for a moment and then look as us with a very embarrassed expression on her face. Without asking us where we would like to sit, she took us through front dining room, through the back dining room, all the way to the small table in the back corner of the restaurant (past several open spots). I thought for a second she was going to try to put us outside on the patio, away from all the other guests! I believe had it been warmer, she would have. It is possible that there was some sort of seating issue (needing to give a server more customers or some such), but if that was the case, then the situation was tactlessly handled. My mother and I both felt nastily treated. We decided to leave without eating - it was our vacation, after all, and we didnt want to spend any of it fighting for our personal dignity. Considering the price point of the menu items and its respectable reputation, I expected much more friendly and professional customer service.

Have visited many times in the past few years and throughly enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. However, recently there alone on business and the service was terrible. My waiter was arrogant and rude. They tried to seat me at the bar and when I declined, put me in a seat facing the open kitchen - tried to tell me this is where they put "single" people the tables are for couples and groups. When I gave him a large bill that was twice the amount of my meal he said, do you want change? When I said yes, he never returned with the money. I asked another staff person for assistance who agreed, but neither returned with my money. After a considerable wait, I left tired from a long day and vowed not toreturn.

Have heard nothing but good things about this restaurant, including from friend I went with who has a summer home in the area. I ordered the lamb chops. Although I had specified doneness the waitress much later flew out in a panic and said "how did I want them done." There were three chops and I had throughly enjoyed the first two. I cut in to #3 and instead of medium it was RARE but even worse it was a tiny piece of rare meat and a lamb chop of mostly FAT. I did mention this to the waitress and I thoroughly understand the comment about the aloofness of staff -- she looked at me like so what who cares that 1/3 of your main course was effectively not there.

I really want to love this place. The food is wonderful. But time after time Im shocked by the aloofness of the staff - the latest incident was that I put my name in (30 minute wait, totally fine - went to the bar) and 40 minutes later learned that they accidentally crossed my name off the list. They offered to put my name back on the list, but said it would be another 40 minute wait. I understand mistakes, but they didnt care one bit that I was about to have an 80 minute wait for a table for 2. We went to Saugatuck and had fantastic Fish-n-Chips instead. I wont be giving this place another chance, and Im pretty sad about that.

Ive been coming to EPC for many, many years, and I have never had anything less than an excellent meal. I visit from the Chicago area 2 or 3 times every summer and I generally will eat here every night of my stay. The atmosphere is great and the service has always been warm and friendly. Im sold and Im one of their biggest fans. Whod think that a little place on Douglas would be my favorite restaurant anywhere? I brought a very well traveled tour leader friend of mine from Rome here about 10 years ago... he felt that Everyday People Cafe is a World Class Restaurant!

Was visiting the Saugatuck/Douglas area for the weekend and this restaurant topped the "things to do" list for the area. I decided to take my family there for a nice meal during the weekend, and all I can say is wow. I wish they had more places like this where I currently live. Great vegetarian options, a to die for burger, and if youre looking to treat yourself, go for filet. I also highly recommend the drunken shrimp. Talk about a classy, yet welcoming restaurant that delivers on all accounts. This was the highlight of our trip to far.

We went to the restaurant on a busy night. We were told 90 minutes for our table. We waited well over two hours. There were open tables and people who came in afterwards were seated before us. We were not wearing a semi-political t-shirt; those who did got preferential treatment that night. Service and food when we finally received it was fair at best. Too bad, nice location, nice looking place; but prepare to get overlooked if you are not socially-politically overt. Go to the Wild Dog, you will be treated much better.

the food is great -- no debate there. and its almost worth the price tag. (in these times, its a little over the top.) the service is less than ok. very slow. the place, overall, is too crowded. great for the owners i suppose; however, i wouldnt doubt there is a fire code being ignored. when you have people waiting for tables, bumping into you while you eat, its time to have them wait out side instead of crowding around the already-over-crowded bars.

Went on a Friday night right when they opened. There were quite a few people in line, but we were able to get a table right away. We had their Farm Board (meats, cheeses, and pickled items) it was fantastic! It also had house made crackers that were so good! For dinner we had the Seafood Linguine & the Chicken & Gnocchi. Both were absolutely outstanding. On par with the food, the service was a 10, or in this case Five Stars! Cant wait to come back.

Amazing. Excellent wine selection, and probably start-to-finish the best meal Ive ever eaten. Even though the wait staff was absolutely slammed (every table was filled open to close), they went out of their way to ensure everyone was tended to continuously. Dinner for two with two glasses of wine each and an appetizer was around $110 after tip, but was well worth it. Id advise getting there before it opens because there will be a line.

I loved this place! we can in on the Saturday before Labor Day and we were seated immediately. From seafood to burgers this place has it. I was amazed by the "Make your own Bloody Mary" bar which had 20+ items to put in it! Its located in a great location where you can shop a bit and then drown the sorrows of your newly acquired debt with bottomless bubbles or endless mimosas! The wasabi crusted tuna was amazing!! Get extra wasabi

Regardless of the occasion or time of year, if we have a special event to celebrate, or just need a night out, this is our go to place. The service is amazing, and the food, whether lunch or dinner is a culinary delight! I love the savory soups, and everything from appetizers to dessert, start to finish is delish! Doesnt matter if you go for a wine dinner, or a burger and local beer, you will not be disappointed one bit, guaranteed.
