Perfect! Especially fresh. Killin Dunkin and Krispy... All day. I posted this on fbook after reading some of the other reviews. . . "Almost every part of Detroit could be considered a "sketchy" part of town. Even the well kept neighborhoods have their share of tom foolery, as with any American neighborhood. I was reading all the raving reviews of Dutch Girl and the area and bulletproof glass was obviously a turn off for some previous customers. Many if not most of Detroits treasures are behind bulletproof glass but have lasted longer in "sketchy" neighborhoods than most white people. That annoys me. Seeing a gem in a dilapidated place should give you hope! One guy said "keep your head low" while riding to the place. If youre that scared of the less approved areas in the city, I suggest simply not venturing into the city at all for any of its treasures. Its my prayer that Detroit will NEVER become just another segregated city like Chicago. I hope if you have a passion for midtown and corktown and all these up and coming places, your heart is for the city as a whole. But if youre one of these people who posts opening day pictures and only truly have the nerve to explore the "approved" tiny pockets of Detroit for fear of the rest, I think you need to get real or just get out. As much as Detroit needs to grow and recover, pretending its something its not until you have carved out larger yuppy, artsy hot spots does more harm than good. Seeing the rest of the city as something that needs to come under jurisdiction of this new movement instead of coming to terms with what brought the city to its knees in the first place is not gonna foster "diversity" and revitalization in our neighborhoods. Recognizing that even on a block of abandoned buildings, hope is present and resilience existed before people implement all of these "plans" to fix what they dont even know their parents and grand parents played a part in breaking as well... Because of fear. I understand not wanting to be shot. Who wants to be shot? But Ive never SEEN a gun being pulled in my 28 years of riding from east 7 Mile to Woodward for a freaking dutch girl donut. If on your one or two visits you just so happen to get shot, maybe it was just meant to be.... For your convenience, there is one of few remaining precincts just a holler away. Tell the dispatcher youre not from here, maybe theyll get to you sooner and actually investigate your shooting . Your chance for justice will especially increase if youre white, so youre already in pretty good shape for somebody who just got shot trying to buy donuts in Detroit."

I have been going to Dutch Girl for years and yes their donuts are the best. However, my last experience with them a couple of months ago was horrible. I go in at 7am and always buy two dozen because I take them to work. I tried to buy some glazed donuts and the lady waiting on me was told they were all sold to someone else that had pre ordered. however a man that came in after me asked for some of the glazed donuts sitting there are the other individual said sure I have a few extra and gave them to him right in from of me. To top it off, I had to fight off two men in and outside begging. I love the donuts but, have not gone back as I will not spend my money where I am disrespected to my face with no regard for me being a customer whether it was my first time or the 50th time being there.

UPDATE - My last three trips have been successful, I win. Third time in a row Ive been there no glazed donuts and no butter creams. Youre killing me with none of my favorite donuts in the morning. Ive been coming here to get donuts for over 15 years and Im willing to give it a couple more chances but if you dont have what I like and then Ill probably end up not stopping by anymore. There were two people while I was there that walk out when they found out there were no glazed donuts and no butter creams.

Delicious donuts, and some of the employees are very friendly. My only complaint is the crack heads on that block. I had a guy ask me for money while holding a crack pipe in his hand! I also had a woman fake being an amputee to ask me for money (had her arm tucked inside her windbreaker, and after several failed attempts to garner sympathy and donations, she gave up the act). DPD seriously needs to crack down in this area, because this is a great business that doesnt need any of that frustration.

Elusive donuts that worth the trip to a sketchy neighborhood. Dutch Girl runs 24 hours until the run out and the next shift starts. Fortunately, we live 5 min away and 8/10, theyre closed. But when theyre open, youll forgive them all the times their neon sign was turned off and doors locked. The best donuts are the peanut covered cake ones, especially when right out of the fryer and freshly dipped. The prices are great, and over time, youll get over the bulletproof glass.

Absolutely delicious some of the best donuts Ive ever had! Im visiting detroit and wanted to know where the best donuts were because there are a million donut shops in this area. This one had great reviews so I decided to try it out. The staff was extremely friendly and even gave me a free donut because I was from out of town. Be warned its not in the best part of town and you order behind a bullet proof glass but the donuts are worth it!

Im a believer!!! I first learned about them from the news several months ago. I grew up in the city, but had never even heard of this donut shop. After the airing I was determined to make the trip to try Dutch Girl. Needless to say...These are the best donuts I have ever had! I was never really a glazed donut fan until trying Dutch Girl. Now Im already planning my next donut rendezvous. Their coconut macaroons are delicious too!

Coming from California I was looking for a good doughnut spot everyone said here. Tried the glazed because they didnt have any of the maple bars or buttermilk maple bars. I didnt like them at all. They had very little substance to them. Maybe its just because i prefer a more dense cakey type doughnut. Either way I wont be going back. Theres a small place not too far thats way better will post the name when I remember it.

Now I dont know what Angel K is talking about down there in comments below because she obviously doesnt know what importance this donut shop has to the city of Detroit. This is one of the staple donut shop in country since the 40s, and was ranked better than the famous Cafe de Mundo for best glazed donut at one point. Eating Dutch Girl donuts with a cold glass of milk will best the best night of your night, no lie!

One of the best old school places to grab donuts in the D. Detroit classic, donut shop so they dont always have every flavor stocked, that because the donuts are made fresh daily and sell like hot cakes!!! Cash on hand is needed as this is a traditional business. Glazed sour cream and unglazed sour cream are the best. Be weary of the individuals begging for money outside of the business.
