We were not that impressed with Tomukun--food, service, or ambiance. Weve tried to come to Tomukun before, but after standing in the entrance for a while and not being noticed and seated, weve left. The same thing was about to happen last night when a server noticed us and invited us to sit. The menu is small and appealing--lots of noodle dishes, some spicy, and lots of great-sounding elements ("hearty vegetables," e.g.). We ordered a couple of the smaller appetizers (octopus fritters and chicken spring rolls), then I ordered the green curry udon, and my fiance ordered the curry udon. We each got one of the craft beers. The octopus fritters were very fishy--a plus to some, Im sure, but a huge minus for us. We ate them not because we enjoyed them, but just to be rid of them! Thats really terrible when I think about it. We just didnt want to see/smell them. The chicken spring rolls had this beautiful clear wrap, but then didnt taste like much of anything. The chicken, which I made a point to taste on its own, had been steamed without any seasoning whatsoever. So just a bit bland. The udon was nice. My green curry had a kick to it, and I enjoyed the sponginess and thickness of the noodles. The tilapia it came with was also very fishy, and just had zero flavor to it. The vegetables (red pepper and zucchini) were fine. So in all I really enjoyed the first few bites, but at some point I stopped noticing the experience or flavor and it felt more bland. The beers were... eh. I got the ginger, but couldnt really taste ginger. My fiance got the espresso, and all I could taste was espresso. The ambiance was a bit loud--the sounds from bigger groups really carried. The service was pretty eek. Our waitress repeatedly finished her part of the job before wed finished ours. So, for example, as we ordered food, she took the menus from us mid-sentence. I then had to ask for the menu back to find the beer I wanted. Later on she came and took a plate before I was finished with it. Then she left the check in the middle of the meal (without asking if we wanted anything else). We looked over at some point and shes just sat down to her own dinner--perhaps shed been eager to attend to that instead of her customers? At the end of it all, our meal ran into the $50 range. Over $25pp seems like a lot for some noodles, a drink, and a small appetizer. Glad I tried it, but wont be going back.

When seeing this restaurant downtown, I was super excited to try it out... boy, was I disappointed. When I first walked into the restaurant, I was greeted by a waitress who asked how many in my party. When I replied, she said "Okay, its about a 5-10 minute wait." No big deal, as it was lunch time and it couldve been worse (so I thought). I had a party of 4, and I was the only one there so far, because my friends were still parking. So as I waited by the door, I noticed other patrons come in, and a table was emptying up that would accommodate my party size. The patrons that came in after me, were immediately seated at this table. I started to get mad, and made sure to let them know that I was in fact still waiting for a table. A young man approached me and said he would not be able to seat me until everyone in my party was here. Now that really infuriated me... what restaurant will not seat you until your whole party shows up? So instead, I was forced to stand by a revolving door during a snow storm, and watch others take tables I couldve sat at and enjoyed a drink, or maybe even started eating something. Now onto the food: it was mediocre, nothing out of this world. I ordered the Bibimbop because it was the lunch special on friday for only $7, while everything else on the menu seemed to be around $9-$10. The portions are large, but the food is basic... and the meat I was served in the Bibimbop resembled Taco Bell meat, and kind of grossed me out. And it seems every waiter waits on each table, so you never have just one person serving you, which seems impersonal. Overall, I will not be coming back here... too expensive for what I got, and the customer service is lacking severely.

Good food. Rude service. It was like they didnt want our business. Came in at 9:15 7/20/17 and were told that they closed at 10pm. No problem. We were starving. After being told that we couldnt wait at the bar (even though there was space), we were seated around 9:25 and ordered within 10 minutes from our server who was very short with us. Food arrived fairly quickly and we ate very quickly and were ready to leave by 10:15. Got our check, paid and our server took our two dishes to box up in to-go containers. This is where things got bad. 45 seconds later, our server returned with only one of our to-go containers and said, "So, someone threw your other one out. Sorry about that." Stunned, I waited a moment expecting her to present a solution since we had already paid (adjust our bill, coupon/voucher etc.). When she didnt present one, I replied, "Well that was our lunch for tomorrow," to which she replied, "Well, youll just have to come back then. Ha Ha." I couldnt believe that was her response! Needless to say, she received a horrible tip and we will not be returning. As a business owner, its always disappointing how one employee can ruin a customers perception of a business.

Stay away from the spicy seafood ramen! The appetizers were pretty good (dumplings and pork buns) so no complaint there and my friends beef and chicken ramen looked pretty good but my meal was pretty terrible. She mentioned that the ingredients were premixed so I probably shouldve taken that as a sign when I tried to omit a couple things from my order but I didnt realize premixed meant dehydrated packets. The squid was okay if not flavorless, the crab stick was great although there wasnt much in the bowl but the shrimp should be considered an embarrassment by the company. It was the same tiny dried up pieces that you find in a 90¢ cup-o-noodles! On top of that, there was only around 5 in the whole bowl. I had to be careful not to eat them so Id be able to find one to discuss with the server on the lack of quality. They did give me the option to order real shrimp to throw in but that of course was an additional charge. The extra shrimp tasted great but it probably shouldve been part of the meal. Anywho Im not really angry with the place but if I do make a trip there in the future Im fighting that seafood bowl away with a stick.

Tomukun uses quality ingredients, and has an exceptional taste. For the entrees which are offered, The pricing is amazing; considering they are not only serving quality food, but that they also provide a generous portion for even the most hungering of patrons. The staff are usually well mannered, and multiple waiters tend to serve you while dining. The only downside as far as Im concerned is that the place is often busy, and sometimes, the staff are to helpful trying to make sure no one is left out. This in my concern, is barely a complaint, and can be easily avoided by attending their slower periods. Being a Korean/Japanese style restaurant, most the dishes are different Currys and Ramen, although, there are other choices such as Katsu. The bar has a decent variety of sake, beer, and some wine, among other beverages. Overall, Tomukun is a very satisfying experience, and probably among the top 3 restaurants in the area, for the price range they offer. Expect to pay a minimum of $10-13 per entree.
