Ahhh, Carlyle. This place holds such a special place in the hearts of me and my wife yet we do not plan to return. My wife and I actually had our first date at Carlyle and obviously things went well. Later we moved in together in an apartment down the street and would go to Carlyle at least once a month. I ended up proposing to my wife in their parking lot during a night where I recreated our first date. When we found out we had bought a house, ate at Carlyle. Picked a puppy from a litter, ate at Carlyle. Wife found out she was pregnant, ate at Carlyle. Our one year anniversary I got my wife a necklace with the coordinates of Carlyles parking lot where we first met and I proposed. The food was always above average, it was not exceptional but usually delivered. Except for the desserts, those were not so good. However as you can see we still loved the place and visited frequently. Well this all changed when we had our baby shower planned at Carlyle. My mother-in-law put down a deposit for the private room and we sent out the invitations. Well just weeks before our baby shower they tell us that a bigger party had secured the room for that day. I guess even though we put down a deposit on the room if a bigger party wants the room, were chopped liver. They offered to put us in the main dining room but would surround us with screens. Umm what? The other option was move the baby shower to a different weekend (and hope another bigger party doesnt want it right?). My wifes aunt said this happened to her before when she had planned a party and reserved the private room, she ended up moving it to another weekend. My mother-in-law had her deposit refunded and knowing our love for the restaurant asked to have it back as a gift card and gave it to us. Unfortunately we have no desire to use the gift card and do not wish to go back.

My experience this past weekend was abysmal customer service via the Friday afternoon/evening manager. My three friends and I somewhat frequently meet for happy hour at the Carlyle. As a matter of fact we were just there recently where we saw a young boy and his father sitting in a booth in the bar area. So we didnt think anything of it to meet for some food and a drink with my friend and her infant son. However we were rudely met by a manager who condescendingly told us we had to leave the area because we had a child. The managers tone and approach of the situation was uncalled for. I understand policies and rules but I cant excuse his approach. My friend and her son left as soon as possible as she felt upset and embarrassed. When my other friend and I approached the manager about our dismay of the situation, he was again rude and defensive. When we asked him about seeing children in the bar area a few weeks before, he dismissed us again; but this time used some terms I think only a male chauvinist would use. I was appalled at how he felt he could treat women and women with small children. Be careful women and children if you choose to frequent this establishment your complaints and concerns will most likely not be met with concern or respect.

I came here with a large group after myself and my cousin had walked at commencements. We came here because they were able to accommodate such a large group, about 18 people. The server rolled his eyes at my mother when she was describing how to split the bill two ways. He also had my dad set his jacket on the floor in order to move a chair that nobody was sitting in. 4 of the 5 steaks ordered that night were overcooked. The service did improve after the initial snafu, and I do appreciate that they were busy, however I would recommend going elsewhere if you have a large group. I would be willing to try them again with fewer people and adjust this review.

Do not let this place fool you into thinking happy hour is for everybody. Its not - happy hour is for bar patrons only which, by the way, is in the SMOKING section. They do not tell you that when you call on the phone for information on happy hour specials, as we did before deciding to go there. It was only after we were seated in the non-smoking section that our waiter informed us would have to go to the bar to get the drink specials. Look elsewhere for a better happy hour, one that serves drink specials for everyone, even those of us who do not smoke.

We visited at 8 pm on a Monday night - they were not busy. Took over two hours to get our salad entrees. Calamari appetizer and Crab Cakes appetizer was too salty. They didnt bring the sauce thats suppose to come with the cakes (or lemon or anything!) By the time they brought the sauce the cakes were cold and frankly, nasty. 15 minutes for aeloi? We were offered bread while waiting for salads. We said sure! They never brought it, and our water glasses were frequently empty. Will probably never return or recommend.

This place has the worst customer service. We went there several months ago and saw the kitchen staff eating at the bar. Meanwhile we waited 1hr and 15 minutes for our food. We wanted to give them another shot and went back this week and was told that we had to move seats. Since there was no hostess available we seated ourselves. We did not see a reservation on the table. What really mad me mad is that they expected us to wait 15 minutes to be seated. We we will NEVER go back!

I have been here quite a few times and happy for almost everything. That is the reason I suggested other 4 families join me here for dinner. Two kids ordered the same dish, one only got half and another one got full dish. When I mentioned this to a person like a manger, he just said "I know what you mean", then nothing happened. No one asked us if the food was OK, one girl s drink was never get refilled, no ones check got right.... Many things went wrong tonight.

Good food and drinks, limited selection of beer on tap. Good service. Nice seating area. Ample parking, adjacent to Cinema. Fairly loud. Bar is typically full at Happy hour. Friendly bar staff, slow food. Happy hour specials in the bar area only. Outdoor seating in the bar area only. They have a room in the back for parties only, but I think it needs to be specially reserved. The wall opens up for summer, which is fairly interesting.

Everything they make is amazing and yhe prices are really good. I suggestion trying their brunch it really is some of the best in town. Their pizza is made in a brick oven with authebtic italian crust. The chicken fingers are the best in town. Their fish and chips are very good. The burger is another of the best in town. I high recommend the chicken avacado club also. I could go on and on but you have got to try this place!

I simply cannot recall a restaurant meal that Ive enjoyed so much. In Philadelphia for a brief, last-minute trip, we booked a late dinner at Vetri (last table seated that evening). It was worth staying up for -- every dish was exquisite, especially the famed gnocchi, light as air. And the service was so cheerful, engaged and considerate. Worth every penny and every minute. We may come back to Philly just to eat here again.
