Some reviewers rate West End as the best in AA, and I used to regard it as so. Last night, I was quite disappointed! This is a more expensive restaurant, and as such, one should expect top quality and service. I chose to order the Beef Short Ribs, even after considering that the $39 price tag was steep! What arrived on my plate - and although the dining room was maybe half full, our orders were extremely slow to get to the table - was a large lump of beef, accompanied by a small and luke-warm blob of mashed potato. I was suspicious of the beef, but since we were celebrating my wifes birthday, I chose to try to enjoy the festivities. I was able to eat only half of my entree, so I asked for a take home box. Next day, I took the rest of the entree from the box, and sliced it in half to see what I really had. Turns out it was nothing more than an ordinary hunk of chuck roast, probably about $4 worth at retail. I cook at home freqeuntly, and I know what chuck roast looks llike, and I know how beef short ribs look and taste! Not that it tasted bad, but that it was such a rip-off is what disappointed me. To think that a restaurant would do such a dishonest thing to make a profit is just abominable! Alas, another fine Ann Arbor eatery gets crossed off my list(which is becoming very short)!

We have tried virtually all of the Ann Arbor restaurants numerous times, however this one we have missed, for one reason or another. Our experience was very good, but I would not put it at the top in Ann Arbor. The food was completely excellent, however the menu is rather plain and traditional, nothing too contemporary, which would be a nice addition. We had 4 people total at our table, and favorites were the tuna appetizer, and sea bass entree. Only complaint was from the Halibut entree, which we all agreed was rather dry. I personally ordered a specialty cocktail, the same I order everywhere, and of course there are variations, but here it was virtually undrinkable. It did not really resemble what it was supposed to be. Service was excellent, atmosphere was just okay. I was glad we tried it, but would definitely select Pacific Rim or Logan over West End Grill.

Mediocre service - our waitress did not deign to come to our table for approximately 10 minutes, and then seemed somewhat miffed that we would not order any of the overpriced Whole Foods wine selection. The food was meh - not bad, but certainly not all that good. It reminded me most of the food you get at the Hilton, adequate, but not at all inspired, and horrifically overpriced. I had four sad scallops arranged on a plate with wilted asparagus, and a blob of rice in the middle. Sort of a culinary school meltdown. Oh, lest I forget, a Sysco produced salad with bottled dressing. To be serious - this place is loud, very much overpriced, and much worse, uninspired. My two happy dogs appreciated the leftovers, which Id think is some plus.

My husband and I have been coming to the West End Grill every year on our anniversary for the past 10+ years. It is an annual favorite and one of the best, if not the best, Ann Arbor has to offer. It is not cheap, but neither is it expensive relative to its local competition. The food is always superb. The menu does not vary, but it does have a range of entrees and each are cooked to perfection. There are fabulous meat, fish, and shell fish selections from which to choose. It is a small restaurant and although reservations are preferred, they are not always essential. If you wish to eat here for graduation or the holidays then book early. Otherwise, just call; they may have a table.

Ive just made another reservation for this charming Ann Arbor gem of restaurant. Months ago, I took two dear friends who are total food snobs and seasoned world travelers, and they loved it. Me too. Service is top-notch but not stuffy. Wine knowledge and suggestions were spot-on. Their accomodation to requests were delightful, food was fresh and intelligently seasoned and prepared. My favorite service remembrance; they carried our drinks from the bar to our table in the front window. I gladly left a generous tip.Delighful!

I went in with very low expectations, given the very high prices, the ridiculously terse chalkboard menu, and not especially appealing photos on social media. I went out extremely impressed. The Chilean Sea Bass was Insanely tender and juicy, almost like pork belly with more flavor and less over-the-top saltiness. Very nice Parmesean-crusted Halibut. Good Oreo cheesecake for dessert. The prices might be a touch high, but this is still easily one of the best restaurants in a great food town.

Fabulous restaurant - my favorite in Ann Arbor for special occasions or quiet drinks at the bar. The service, the cocktails, the food, the deserts - are all exceptional. Over the years, Ive had almost everything on the menu and never been disappointed. I especially love the appetizers - dont miss the seafood strudel, (seasonal) roasted caprese, and mushroom...something..... The sticky toffee pudding for desert is also to die for!

This was not our first time at the West End Grill, but it will be our last. I was so incredibly sickened after a dinner there, that I spent 24 hours practically immobile. My husband had a very bad reaction as well. Whether it was old seafood (Scallops smelled of ammonia), or something else, this purportedly high-end restaurant should be far more selective and careful about the food they serve their customers.

In our party of three we had a fantastic bottle of wine, three delicious appetizers, and three perfect entrées. The key lime pie was, as they say, to die for. It tasted as though the limes were picked fresh from the tree and Immediately made into a dessert. Our wait person was absolutely the best - knowledgeable, congenial, and attentive. Highly enjoyable dining experience for everyone, cant wait to go back!

Our waiter was very polite and knowledgeable. Listening to him recite the menu from memory was impressive. We started off with two well mixed drinks and a shrimp appetizer that was enjoyable. The caprese salad was a highpoint of the night. The tuna was cooked well, but not terribly exciting. All in all a good meal, but perhaps a bit overpriced given such a safe menu and its reserved presentation.

The food was excellent. Scallops were perfectly cooked and very delicious. The petit filet was perfectly cooked. Portions were not large. But hey, who needs leftovers while traveling? The service was good, but I think our waiter was preoccupied with a large group. BUT, the quality of the food overshadowed this minor setback. Highly recommended.

I love this place, been to all the hot spots in Ann Arbor and none compare to the level of service and quality of food at West End Grill. Food is unbelievably good. I cannot speak to wine selection as I am not a wine drinker but my wife is and she loves it.

This is by far my favorite place in A2. The service is great, the food is outstanding and they make the best Martini in the area. The atmosphere doesnt live up to the service and the food but it doesnt detract either. Beats all the places on Main St.
