Came in with a group of 4 early on a Sunday for brunch. My friends were amazed that I had never been to Rosebuds before, even in its earlier incarnation. There is definitely a gastropub element to this place now with a focus on higher end diner food. The first thing that will shock you is the size of this place, it is quite large as it extends well beyond the chrome diner cart located on the street. This place is not nearly as small as it appears on the outside. Our waitress seemed to have a bit of an attitude at first, but it was Sunday morning for all of us I guess. Kentucky Iced Coffee Cocktail - This thing was straight gasoline and it was exactly what I needed. This is not for the faint of heart though. Thick Cut Brown Sugar Bacon - While I like the idea in concept I really prefer the thinner and crispier style of bacon. Would love to try the brown sugar glaze on a crispier slice. Bacon Scallion Hush Puppies - These were a highlight of the meal. It could have been plated a little better (the plate looked half empty). The flavors were spot on though. If you are a fan of bacon and cornbread you are sure to liked these little crunchy bites of goodness. Texas Brisket Hash - A great choice for a hearty brunch. A mixture of eggs, potatoes, some veggies and some tasty brisket. This dish was hearty but not overly greasy or fatty. Eggs Benedict - The one we tried was topped with spinach. The hollandaise sauce and the english muffin were both on point and tasted very fresh. Another great choice.

About an hour for dinner for 2 without feeling rushed. We were seated for our reservation upon arrival. Our server came almost immediately to greet us and fill our water glasses. He came back to get our drink and cocktail order. We tried the calamari. The breading was crunchy but we thought the rings were chewy. My cocktail, la casa de azul, was good but not blue as I expected. I had the chicken fried catfish sandwich and my date had the fried chicken thighs. The sandwich was great. The bun was soft and even though I hate shredded lettuce, it provided a great texture but didnt keep my bun from getting soggy as I ate. The bbq bacon should be its own meal or at least appetizer! The fries were hot and crunchy on the outside and meaty on the inside. The chicken thigh entree comes with 3 thighs mashed potatoes and slaw. The thighs were good sized but we thought it couldve been seasoned better. The potatoes were good. The slaw was not good at all. The server was present but not intrusive. The requested condiments were brought before the meal hit the table. The appetizer plates were removed immediately prior to the entrees being served. My only complaint is the hostess who kept leaning into the "train area" to see whos almost finished or whatever. She leaned right behind my date about 4 times. It annoyed me considering she couldve just walked into the area and saw everything.

Charles Foster Kane might not have had good memories of this "Rosebud," the Rosebud Kitchen and Bar (the old Rosebud Diner); the tables would not be loooooong and the setting regal enough for Kane, but we plebeians will have excellent memories of Rosebud. The St. Louis Ribs ($18.95 for 1/2 rack) were succulent and zesty, although a bit dry in spots; the accompanying thick macaroni pasta salad and fresh tasting coleslaw were perfect. The Griddled Cheeseburger ($12.95) w/crisp lettuce, tomato, shaved onion, pickles was excellent, as were the crispy-edged hot fries. Dessert featured Rosebuds famous pies ($7): Mocha Cream, excellent except for its nondescript crust, and Pear Cranberry, whose crust was nicely flakey but not as buttery as we like, and whose pears were a bit too undercooked. But they were still very good (although not as good as Mamelahs). Special was the Lizard of Koz draught from Founders of Michigan, made with saliently rich chocolate and less salient Michigan blueberries. Dont miss this! Service was friendly, and there was an excellent deal on its nice mugs: if you pay $8 instead of the regular price of $3.50 for coffee, you get a mug to take home.

Came for (Easter) bunch and it wasnt too packed but the food was great and the service was funny. I had the blood orange mimosa which was delicious, as blood orange always is, and overflowing. No, really, the waiter said sorry because of how full it was. We shared the biscuits and jam because its not often vegetarians get to have biscuits at restaurants. So good. Great jam too. They should sell it, assuming they make it... I then had eggs Florentine which was perfect. I wanted more sauce, but thats just me being fat. It didnt need it. Perfect eggs, I think homemade english muffins (at least not a brand any of us knew) and PERFECT potatoes. I thought i might get sick from eating too much, but I kept going back for them. Service was hungover and hilarious. The person filling up the water got mine everywhere and just said oh and left though...Super awkward to the point where I didnt even ask for another napkin after mine was soaked. Oh well. Our waiter brought us everything very timely, even though it seemed like he had the whole room to himself. You can send postcards for free!

Yes, its hipster-ish but ignore that, because why should they get all the good spots? This place performed a major reno prior to opening where they connected, via arts most dark, the old rosebud bar to the diner car. The bar section is unrecognizable with lots of wood, wall seats and tables along one wall - curved around to the rear and opposite the massive bar. Given my single trip I cant say what the diner car looks like but youve got to have some surprises for future visits (watch out for the clowns, they.... never mind that, no clowns have been seen for months). They have a wonderfully curated selection of beers and spirits. They have barrel-aged cocktails, so obviously youve got to try them, but dont forget theyve got some great food as well. Some of it is deconstructed diner fare but its done well, so who cares? Lastly... make sure you eye the confections under glass on the way in. I can vouch for the lemon meringue, but the rest looked tasty as well.

The food is great, the service is uncertain at best. The waiter seemed to be on another planet; would acknowledge our requests but not act on them. Wed ask for a pitcher of water, theyd say, right away!, but it would never materialize. This happened for a few things. Somehow the waiter got the idea I had food restrictions and decided to go into every detail of how their food was put together. Maybe it was for my own safety, but I would have preferred to have been asked about my food restrictions rather than told, especially since I have none. Overall, it was an awkward experience, but I would maybe do it again because the food quality was quite high. Theyre not good at predicting their wait times so definitely make a reservation first.

The waitress we had, Alex, was very attentive and helpful. She really knew the menu and made fantastic suggestions. The hostess was very warm and welcoming. I didnt catch her name, but she had dreadlocks and she even came to check on us during our dinner. Dont skip the appetizers: those Smoked Chicken Wings with the agave glaze were freaking phenomenal. As for entrees I really LOVED the St. Louis Ribs and the Country Fried Steak. The drinks were strong and priced about the same as most restaurants -around $10. The key lime pie was so tart and delicious. It was big enough for 2 people. I will definitely return, maybe tonight :)
