I use to go to el Potre all the time and bost about it to all my friends. Last night my husband and I returned there for dinner and we always order the sampler and him the three amigos and I chicken chimichanga. The sampler when it arrived looked different but I dismissed it when the order arrived it looked different they added tomatoe sauce on top. I asked the waitress about it and she claimed she just started then she got the mgr and when he came over he said hes been working there since restaurant opened and he works 6 days a week and that is how the food is served! I told him Ive never got my food like that cuz the tomatoe sauce was too acidic for me. He never apologized he told me next time order without the sauce! Hello I never got the sauce before! Needless to say we will not be going back to that place! Goodby el potro

I didnt expect much when walking in here for the first time. Boston isnt known for its Mexican food so I had my expectations low. The food itself is not great but good enough. Everything from there went uphill in the best way, starting from the strong margarita I got that tasted like half tequila. While I was enjoying my food, their live DJ was playing classic hits like the Top Gun soundtrack with videos to match. Just when I thought it couldnt get any better, people started walking around the restaurant singing karaoke. If you want a nice and quaint meal this place isnt for you. If you want to eat decent Mexican food while a party is going on all around you, this place is great.

Do you like mostly typical mexican food that comes in very large portions and has unlimited chips and salsa? If so, El Porto is for you! The chips and salsa never seem to stop. Its like they know I cant stop eating them and they love it. Its wonderful and awful all at the same time. I am so full just thinking about it. This place is solid. It doesnt have a ton of veggie options (though the manager has let me know that they will let you make things veggie by request!!) but what they do have is gloriously cheesy. If you are in the neighborhood and hankering for some cheese and classic american Mexican food then El Porto is definitely the place to go.

The best authentic Mexican cuisine in Union Square. Way better than the other place a few doors down. The fish tacos are expertly crafted and the margaritas were very tasty. The restaurant is colorful and always full of life. The wooden benches and chairs you sit on are hand-carved and beautifully painted. On Cinco de Mayo they had party favors for all the customers to get everyone in the spirit of celebrating. I walked away with a nice pair of maracas. One night I was lucky enough to be there when the Mariachi band was playing!

We came for the margaritas and was let down big time. The house margarita ($10) tasted like store-bought mixer. The 1/2 cup of Guacamole side was a ridiculous $6.. Just a heads up, it says market price on the menu but its 6.. didnt realize avacados were elusive as seafood. Service was okay, better than people are saying. Food came out quick and was decent. They have a good thing going with the atmosphere.. just need make a good, cheap, homemade marg and youll be okay.

Horrible customer service. The waitress who picked up the phone was unprofesional and rude. Didnt even take my name and when I went to pick up the order it wasnt ready and and she had no idea what I ordered. She kept ignoring me and I waited at the bar for like 15 minutes. I asked for the manager and she went around the restaurant "to get the manager" and left the bar alone , and she didnt bring the manager.. She was just taking orders from other people.

By far the best Tex-Mex Ive found anywhere in Boston. It matches the two requirements for an authentic Tex-Mex place: theres a bowl of free chips on the table within a minute you of sitting down, and when the food arrives its served on big oval plates where you cant see the plate because its covered in food. The decor is also gorgeous (Mexican-style paintings covered the walls and chair backs).

"I would like a bean burrito." The first time I plopped myself into the restaurant, it was a dark Somerville, MA, in the lack of daylight that is. The nice lady at the register handed me my burrito, and when I saw it, I was confused. It had cheese and tomato/marinara-like sauce on top of it. I dont regret buying the burrito. One star less because the burrito is a bit too small. Thx 4 reading

This is one of the most fun places to go to over the weekend, particularly when the mariachi band is playing. Whether with friends or with the family, including multiple kids, we have always had good service, good food and a genuinely fun evening. Summer evenings are particularly fun when you can sit outside on the square.

Siempre nos atienden con una sonrisa, y la comida está deliciosa. Sin duda, uno de mis lugares favoritos en Somerville.

Good food. God awful service. Had to ask twice for everything. Took half an hour to get a single beer and guacamole while I watched the waitress talk to one another. Someone needs to give the staff a good talking to. Lost my business and will go Cantina instead.

Forget Chipotle, Qdoba and other flavorless "Mexican" establishments. This Union Square establishment is the real deal. Affordable, delicious, authentic Mexican food. If youre lucky, the mariachi band will show up.

45 minutes to get two burritos to go when the place was 2/3 empty at lunch time on a Saturday. It wasnt even that good, about as bad as Annas but twice the price.

Nice place, good food, staf friendly. French people on vacation, we appreciate (is new for us) this food and we have spent a pleasant time in this restaurant.

Every time Ive been here Ive been devastatingly hungry, so I might be biased, but I really like their food! Service is prompt, bathroom is bright orange.

Very dark (fluorescent?) lighting. Advertisements played over the speakers. Salsa tasted stale. Friendly staff though.
