Went to the the Tavern with our 3 children on a Wed. night for dinner. Had excellent service, food was delivered fast and hot, portions were HUGE! They have great outdoor seating even the indoor seating is open to the air with large sliding window walls that are pushed open during the warm months. Fun, relaxed atmosphere. The booths have televisions built into the wall at the end of the table. You control the channel that you view, but there is no sound. Someone else criticized the tvs but if you dont want a tv then request not to sit in a booth. We recommend the fried pickle appetizer for something different. Sesame coated salmon was excellent as was the Land and Sea entree which came with a filet, crab cakes and shrimp in a lobster sauce with fresh green beans and garlic mashed potatoes. Childrens menu is only $5.99 with 8 choices.

I was hopeful this restaurant would have a great atmosphere and even better tasting food, although I can honestly say I was VERY disappointed..I ate here with my husband and daughter in July 2017 and the service was terrible and the food was luke warm and literally made me sick to the stomach. My husband ordered steak tips and they were slimy and tasted like spoiled meat, absolutely terrible. They also forgot my daughters dessert that was supposed to be included with her meal. We each ordered a bowl of clam chowder as an appetizer and our waitress assumed that was our main course and didnt return to take our actual order for about 15-20 minutes after we received our soup. We wont be eating here again.

The service was outstanding. If I could remember my waitresses name, Id give her a shout out. But unfortunately my steak was frankly absolute garbage for the $20 I paid, and they couldnt just give me more truffle sauce got my fries... Presumably because of corporate rules. Remember, this is a chain. Instead, they were able to give me an entire extra side of fries. Which was awesome, but weird, and I could tell that the waitress was struggling to give the best service she could while completely restrained by ridiculous corporate rules. And again, dont waste your money on the steak. Mine was total garbage. But friends like their other offerings, especially their consideration for gluten-free needs.

This is one of my favorite beer and a burger places. They have a wonderful selection of draft beer, especially in autumn, and a fully equipped bar to create any cocktail imaginable. The food is also very good, with a wide variety of fantastic comfort foods. You will find bacon cheese burgers, mac-n-cheese, hummus and wild seasonal salads. The service is friendly, but for prompt and timely service i recommend sitting at the bar. The TVs are normally set to a variety of different sporting events, but they also put on CNN and anything pertaining to current world news. I went in for dinner one night and was pleasantly surprised to see sports and also the Conclave in Vatican City!

The food was good, but, the prices werent that wallet friendly. If youre seeing the word "tavern" and thinking of old well worn wood tables, a defunct fireplace in the corner and a good burger, that kind of thing, then this isnt your place. Thats what we had been picturing, but when we finally got there after walking all around the town, we were too starved or if our minds to find something else. This is not a pinky-out kinda of place by any means, but, this is modern-ish sports place. Like a fancy_ish Ruby Tuesdays or something.

Initially I really liked this place. But I think that it was more of a reflection of how bad so many of the other restaurants in Salem really are. We have eaten at The Tavern a bunch of times. The service is pretty good. I dont fault the wait staff or bar staff at all. But the food is kind of bland and the interior is so dark. Also the televisions on the table are kind of annoying. It isnt a bad restaurant. But it is kind of ho hum. I think that they need to make some changes to the menu.

Eh, I would have to say that this place is just mediocre. The food is okay but the prices are a bit high for what you get. The service is very impersonal and most of the patrons that I have interacted with here are not friendly. This may be a good place to stop in for lunch but I would not bother going for dinner. Nothing like sitting outside or near the open windows breathing in the fumes from all the cars stuck at that horrible intersection.

Great take on pub food and really friendly staff. Started out with clam chowder and big dig fries. The fries were really good but probably should be split four ways unless you want some pain. For my entree, fish and chips. At this point, I was getting close to stuffed, but the fish was too good to waste. So, if youre looking for pretty decent take on pub food and are in the neighborhood, give it a try.

Very loud for an average Thursday evening - everyone competing with the music as well as the next table, just to be heard by the people they were with. I know they say that if its too loud, youre too old, but by the end of the first drink, my ears were ringing so much, I couldnt hear anything anyway! Terrible, overpriced Frat bar - if youre over 25, avoid at all costs!

They checked my ID like 3 different times, and made me show additional ID, just to go in and eat at 8PM. They wouldnt even accept a work or student ID as legitimate for additional ID, and they were pretty rude about all of it. The food inside was pretty good, but not worth them harassing myself and my family for a rather expensive dinner.

It was pretty good while eating there but I ended up getting food poisoning from the California Chicken wrap. It was the last thing I ate while in Salem and I have been really sick for 2 days. I wont be eating there again. I dont usually write bad reviews but when you get sick like I have been you are not happy about it.

Awesome tap beer selection, they must have about 50+ different taps. The food looked good but I just grabbed a couple pints. As a tourist from our of town, this is a good spot to start an evening in Salem. Park for free across the street (after 6:00) and then walk into Salem after having a drink at the tavern.

At the restaurant: the food was really good, great customer service and an overall joy to eat at. At the bar was a little noisy and through dj made the bar more of a club with obnoxiously loud music however it did not bleed into the restaurant much so you could easily avoid it if it wasnt your scene

We come here every visit to Salem. This evening we just came in for drinks and dessert. The food and drinks were fantastic but our waitress was less than pleasant. This has never happened to us at the Tavern in the Square so we are hoping it was a fluke. Usually the service and fare are amazing.

This place is pretty much overarchingly decent. There are so many screens everywhere that it is a little impersonal and can be hard to have a nice meal with all the visual distractions. The staff is generally very nice, in my experience, though, and they have some good vegetarian options!
