The food here is as South Indian as George W. Bush is liberal. However, you can always go to a restaurant where the food isnt as authentic as is claimed, but the friendly service more than makes up for it. Not so here. The service is as hideous as the food. Our waiter was grim as an undertaker, and didnt even smile when we left him a decent tip (which he didnt deserve). Please do visit this restaurant if you are a glutton for punishment and do not like to be treated well. Oh by the way, the roof leaked on to our food. When we politely pointed that to the waiter, it was met with an exasperated sigh, as if we just committed a terrible mistake for which he was going to chastise us.

After reading the reviews, i decided to give this restaurant a try during my visit to Boston. It has a distinctly south indian name, so we decided to try their dosas. They are the worst i have had in the last twenty years. The chutney and sambhar they serve is awful. Please, if anyone from the restaurant is reading, STOP serving "south indian" food. You will be better off. We also ordered a lamb dish which was too sweet and had some nasty smell associated with it. In fact, every dish we ordered had some sugar added to it. However, the appetizers were decent.

We went to this restaurant with family one evening to have chaats...we ordered behl puri, samosa chat and papri chat. While bhelo puri and samosa chat were fresh and tatsty, the papri used in papri chat was old and smelt stale spoiling the taste of the chat. I informed the steward and they were kind enough to give another plat of papri chaat "on the house"...this time around the papri used was fresh and tatsted good. I appreciate the fact that the restaurant took immediate corrective action on the feedback given.

Tanjore is the name of a famous South Indian city and this place is primarily a North Indian. I think you need to stick with the curries and naan- I will not recommend the South Indian dishes on the Menu. Our group had to stop mid way and pack everything to go as we could not complete our meal. The service was below average when a awkward waiter kept trying to remove our plates while we were still working on our meal.

We were really excited to get our main dishes because the appetisers (samosa and chicken pakora) were amazing! We ended up being slightly disappointed with the curries. They were OK but lacked in flavour and spices. Not bad, just not amazing. The service was just fine, quick and friendly. I would go back there and choose something else just to see if we were simply unlucky with our choices.

Its at Harvard Square in Cambridge, not down in JP. It seems to have three separate Google Maps listings there, plus this listing in the wrong city. Can someone clean up these listings? (Im rating it "excellent" based on the owners other restaurant, Rangoli, which closed.)

When we asked for spicy biryani ( we said spicy times), it was so good and spicy that we were coughing with every bite. The owner was so sweet, he came to speak with us, asked us if we wanted to return it but we loved it, and later gave us free kulfi to satiate the spice!

Food was okay. Service was a bit lacking - I had to wait for about 15 minutes for them to notice that I was done with my meal and was pointedly trying to get a waiters attention; this despite being a Thursday evening and the restaurant being uncrowded.

The food was okay. The spices were very interesting and I was told by someone whod been to India that it seemed authentic. However: it made me feel a bit sick after, mostly because I found a dark, curly hair in my creamed spinach. Gross.

Service was fairly good, but food was not. I think they just had big batches of sauce made up, and just threw some veggies in or meat. The vegetables in my vegetable korma were still raw! Not recommended.

The best delivery option for indian in the somerville/cambridge area. I hope the food remains consistently as good as it is right now - Im sure this will become a delivery staple for my household.

My go-to Indian place in cambridge. Solid saag panneer, a great lunch buffet, and a student discount! Love the guys here. They are willing to make things pretty spicy, which I am a fan of.

Hands down, Tanjore is the best Indian food in Harvard, especially after Cafe of India closed. The layout is a bit weird though, like theyre not sure if theyre a restaurant or a bar.

Appetizers were ok but avoid ordering the South Indian dishes. Very disappointed. Should have read the prior bad reviews before we went! They are accurate even after nearly 8 years!!

Our favorite Indian restaurant in the area. We order take out frequently: they tell us it will be 45 minutes and theyre usually here in 20! The lunch buffet is good too

Very mild, watered down spices, too sweet chat papri , vadas were very dry/hard not fresh, saroson saag was likely to be spinach rather than authentic mustard greens

Delicious Food. We had ordered for a group of 75 people. The quantity was really good enough. And the rates are very good. Food is also tasty. Enjoy your time here.

Not authentic Indian food at all. Lamb vindaloo was not hot but very tangy. Gulab Jamun was served dry and cold (as in directly out of the fridge). Horrible.

Lunch buffet is good, place was bustling. 10% discount with Harvard student ID which makes it very reasonable. Chicken tandoori and lamb dish were spot on.

Place is awful. Dont know what they call it Tanjore when the food has absolutely no connect to South Indian food. No parking. Ordinary service. Stay away!

The lunch buffet has a variety of options - from chaat to desserts. Located near Harvard University makes it an ideal place to grab meals.

Nice size portions, vindalo nice and spicy. Creme sauces a little on the boring side. Nice selection of vegetarian.
