I have NEVER had better food nor of course better Chinese food! This is by FAR THE BEST restaurant in BOSTON, in MASS, in USA and Beyond! I have lived in Boston for 19 years and visit my mom who lives there (For past 7 years I live in England) and no matter how much time I have home for my visit i HAVE to eat at Mary Chungs!!!! Mary Chungs is like going home for me. I have been going here since I was 3 years old! Mary herself taught me how to use chopsticks! We were devastated when they closed for a few years (due to real estate issues) and we were Over the moon, DELIGHTED when they came back!!! Okay here is what you NEED to eat... Suan Low Cha Show.... its spicy but it is AMAZING! My mouth waters thinking about it! Cool your mouth off with their Spring Rolls and Duck Sauce (my mom prefers the egg rolls) BUT the spring roll filling is SO YUMMY! I then ussually go with the schezuen spicy beef and again it is spicy but sooooo good!!! My mom loves the sweet and sour pork! I ussually steal some and it is good! We have NEVER eaten there and not liked something! Crab Ragoons? Delish! Egg Drop Soup? Delish! Dumplings? Yum HONESTLY THE FOOD IS SOOOOO GOOD!!!! GO HERE! GO HERE and GO HERE again! Try it ALL and spread the word! Closed Tuesdays though:)

Food: Average Price: Overpriced for food quality Service: AWFUL Environment: Average Two members of our party were given dirty looks when they mispronounced menu items, first of all. Then, the waitress ignored a members request for a dish and just brought out the standard dish. She then proceeded to give dirty looks to him as he picked out the items that he asked not to be in the food in the first place. When we were getting ready to leave, we were boxing our food and our waitress went up to a member of our party and took his food and box out of his hands, dumped the food in the box, and took his chopsticks right out of his hand as well. Lastly and worst, when we were paying the bill, which was in cash since Mary Chung does not take cards, the waitress took our money and came back saying that the tip of 15% is MANDATORY and that what we had given her wasnt enough. We were waiting for her to bring back change since we didnt have exact bills. We also noticed her cursing about us when she passed our table. In summary, the food is just fine although you can definitely get a better value and quality in Chinatown, but the service is just intolerable -- very rude and hateful. I wont be dining here again.

We planned to have a dinner in a chinese restaurant at MIT that I ate once before. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed. So we searched by google and found the highly rated restaurant named Mary Chung, which is not far. So we decided to have a try. We received the warmest welcome by a lady, who is either the owner or the manager of the restaurant. A few dishes were suggested by her, a man working there and also a waitress. So we had a pork feet, a fish soup, two bowls of dumplings, a pork rib, and a cooked vegetable. We would not say that these food were tasteless, but we did not enjoy them at all. You could imagine how we finished our dinner. The annoying thing was that the waitress came to ask us how about the food so frequently and interrupted our conversations. I noticed that she seemed to do this only to us, but not to other customers who served. When we were checking out, we have been asked to give more tips than we wanted and we did that because the tasteless food was not the fault of the waitress. Anyway, we regretted to go there and plan not to visit this restaurant any more. If you plan to go there, youd better do more homework. Thank you for reading.

Mary Chungs is an absolute gem. The decor is classic, the staff are always more than helpful and Mary herself has been there to warmly welcome me every time Ive ever gone there to eat. The food is prime szechuan cuisine, and the extensive menu has many, many chinese classics as well as the usual chinese-american fare you see at any other chinese restaurant in America. I always order a chinese beer and say please and thank you to the waitress in chinese, and this results in a muh more relaxed dining experience, and I usually only have to ask for the first dish to be "chinese spicy, not white people spicy" before the waitress gets the idea and everything else I order comes out full-flavored as it should. Ive been going there long enough for the wait staff to know me, but be sure that any of the reviews you see here complaining of "tasteless" food are people who either ordered general gaos like fools or asked for their food to be mild.

Not real Sichuan food at all. Tast bad. Very terrible service. Very poor serving. Never never try second time!

Mary Chung is honestly one of my favorite places of all time. It sort of of makes me want to move back to Boston...at the very least, anytime Im remotely in the area I willingly go way out of my way to have lunch there. These are the items that you must order: 1) Suan La Chao Chao (I dream of these on the regular...one of the best dishes youll ever have). 2) Peking ravioli (these are amazing and the sauce it comes with is even more incredible - no where else makes it like that) 3) Dan Dan Noodles with Shredded Chicken. Every time I stray and try something new, its generally not worth it, and I think some people who have reviewed this place poorly did so because they arent ordering the 3 gold-standard items. Last bit of advice: though heat level can vary, you probably want to go with people who can handle spice!

Thank you, Mary Chung, for being our restaurant of choice for Valentines Day. We picked up Mary Chungs to eat at home for our romantic night. Our food was ready in 15 minutes, nice and hot, no mess-ups. We had General Tsos, Peking Ravioli, Spring Rolls, and chow fun. They included two small containers of duck sauce and hoison sauce, the latter was extremely spicy (or maybe Im just a wimp). It was enough food for 2 nights (and a lunch). The peking ravioli and chow fun reheated wonderfully. The general tsos was polished off the first night (my boyfriends choice). He LOVED how spicy it is. He doesnt love all the broccoli though (filler!). Sadly enough, they only included 1 fortune cookie. WAIT. Does that mean they thought all that food was for one person? Oh lord. FYI its cash only. But you knew that.
