Fugakyu is so aesthetically pleasing. Not only do you feel like youre walking through a tranquil Japanese garden, but the seafood salad served in martini glasses adds on to the fun and playful atmosphere. You will never be bored by the menu because it is so extensive. By the time you finish analyzing the sushi section, I probably finished reading a whole newspaper. The variety is vast where flavors range from mango cream cheese to jalapeno. Sometimes Fugakyus creative concoctions are delicious, but most of the time, they are just different flavors that have no harmony. Although the sushi may be underwhelming at times, the size of the rolls are massive. After they finish making it, Im sure growth hormones are injected right before they serve it to you. Overall, Fugakyu is a great place to impress someone with fun dining. There are seating areas with sliding doors that create a more intimate feel, as well as a private dining area thats lavished in blue velvet. Other than special occasions, I would only come here for lunch specials due to the hefty price tags attached to their average sushi rolls. Lunch specials consist of appetizers, katsus, sushi rolls, noodles, and rice dishes. You will pay half the price during lunch compared to dinner. This is great for first-time visitors and just smart people in general.

I order from this place all the time through Foodler. The food is always really excellent and they deliver really late. I am writing this review because today they went so over the top in service that I had to share. Last night I ordered food late (after midnight). The door buzzer on my building is unreliable so I asked them to call on my cell when they arrived (as usual). When it had been over an hour and I still didnt have my food I picked up my phone to call and realized it was dead. I have been having repeated problems with the battery not connecting properly and I couldnt get it to turn on. I ran downstairs and sat on my front steps hoping I had not already missed them. I had no way to call them and I had already paid on my credit card in advance. This morning I had to go to Somerville for two days. An extremely nice man from Fugakyu called me and insisted on bringing my food to me today in Somerville - a place ordinarily well outside their delivery area - even though the problem was caused by my phone and they had tried repeatedly to reach me last night to deliver. I am now happily waiting for my delicious food and writing this enthusiastic review. I am officially a big fan!

Once the standards bearer of Boston sushi, FuGaKyu is now one of many very decent, but not stellar, sushi options in the city. That is not to say that the quality has gone down; it hasnt. But the rest of the city has seen a renaissance in sushi that is not being practiced here. And that is just fine, as fresh, competently prepared ingredients dont require the latest in flavor combinations (especially when you dont want to absolutely break the bank). It remains the only sushi place you can take a large group, including your mother who refuses to eat raw fish but wants something other than a bowl of rice with chicken teriyaki. The expansive kitchen menu makes it possible for even sushi lovers to skip the fish for a night. Nice list of sakes, though the servers are not particularly knowledgeable about them.

Always in search of great Asian restaurants, this falls far short of my expectations. The food quality is okay and the decor is actually excellent. However, the service, especially if youre youthful, is atrocious. The waitresses are actually very rude especially to anyone youthful as in my daughters (in her mid 20s) recent birthday event with half a dozen friends. They made many errors and were not at all apologetic, blaming her and her guests for not being clear. My daughters best friend also had the same experience on another dinner there with her boyfriend. If the staff treats their customers this way, I wonder how the owners og Fugakyu treat their staff. Our (Asian) family, who enjoys dining out for good fare, have crossed this place off our list.

FuGaKyu is a decent to good sushi place, but its certainly overpriced. Ive only eaten here once, but Ive done delivery a number of times. One notable story, and a warning to potential customers, from when I ate here: for an appetizer, I had the kumamoto oysters, which came on this huge plate of ice, with little flashing, colored lights underneath the ice. It was, frankly, cheesy, but fun. However, the raw oysters themselves were pre-doused in an insane wasabi sauce that was so strong it literally made me cough. It totally ruined the oysters. The sushi on the other hand is pretty good. Its a step above your run-of-the-mill delivery sushi, for sure.

This used to be our favorite Japanese restaurant. However, they started to get a little sloppy and the last two times we visited the Boston location we were greeted by an extremely rude older Asian man sitting behind the counter. I asked him a few questions and he was very unpleasant to me. We decided we would not give them our business anymore. Now we go to Yoki at Station Landing in Medford. The food and the prices are better and the atmosphere is much nicer. The greatest thing about Yoki is the attention you get from the staff...they are outstanding. Try it. You will like it much better.

This is my favorite restaurant. I have been to numerous places that serve sushi in various states and this continues to be my favorite. I am not too familiar with their other dishes, but all the guests Ive brought with me always have good things to say. I insist any sushi lover try their Una Coco Maki. Its fantastic. Its just one of their many original and creative rolls that delight the palette. If you like that, try their Sake Papaya Maki too. Both bring fruitiness which is a pleasant surprise with sushi. Una Coco is cold while Sake Papaya is warm, FYI.

Not only is the dining experience excellent on all fronts, i.e. wait staff, decor, quality of food, promptness, and not to mention reasonably priced. But the delivery through foolder is just as amazing! Always arrives within a decent time frame. ( I live in Back Bay) And the food is kept at a pleasing temperature because of the way they package the delivery. I highly recommend this restaurant on both fronts, whether youre a resident or just making a one time stop in the Boston area..

The restaurants interior is designed for personal privacy by using bamboo fence and little Japanese cubicle-like rooms. The employees are usually nice and the food is quite satisfying since there arent many good Japanese restaurants in the East Coast. Their seafood udon is great and its taste has improved over the year. The only downside is that their prices are a bit expensive but the food portion is reasonable (maybe a bit too much for some Japanese people).

I had the worst time. The food is nothing remarkable, but most of all the staff is extremely rude. The host/manager was cold and impolite, and the waiter rushed us all the way through, from ordering to the check. The poor treatment did not encourage us to leave a tip, and so on our way out, the waiter stopped us and gave us the receipt again, saying we had not left a tip. I asked if it wasnt optional, and then he began to argue back. It was appalling.
