The chocolate almond croissant was too bread-y and not light and flake-y. That was the only thing we bought, at the recommendation of a friend. The space was aiming for cozy that crossed into "stuffy" with similarly boring decor. The walls are yellowish brown with olive green moulding. The chairs are all heavy wood with leather. The lighting is warm and dark except for the unharmonious fluorescent lights coming from the drink holders. The kitchen is somewhat open, but not in a purposeful way. The cacophonous sounds of the bread-cutter prevents any purposeful conversation.

Not inconvenient but a bit out of the way in the Savage Mill (off Route 1 near Route 32), and not the most diverse menu for someone in search of a complicated meal, however, they offer a cozy ambience, sufficient variety and all is tasty: what they do offer is done well and tastefully. The selection of breads and their qualities alone make this worth the stop. The pastries are fresh, and are among the best to be found in the Baltimore-Washington corridor. Their Mille-feuille (Napoleon) is among the better ones Ive found in the US. Vive la différence!

The food is just OK, but their service is terrible. The guy at the counter doesnt know what hes doing much of the time. The sandwiches come with a choice of cheese, and when I asked him what my choices were, he said that they had only one cheese, so I asked what kind, and he said he didnt know. It takes forever even just for a sandwich so I wonder if they are killing the pig, turkey, and cow in the back or something.

For $20, I expect more than a dry eclair cut in half and filled with chocolate pudding and a disappointingly flavorless apple cake thing. The only gem in this assortment was a mediocre lemon tart my wife selected. The lackluster customer service suggests that even the hostess knew her wares were lacking.

The woman behind the counter was rude to everyone, they didnt honor a Savage Mills coupon with their store listed, the bread was mediocre, and the meringues were so undercooked they were a tough chewy mess.

No surprise the bread and pastries are best earlier in the day. Not the absolute best, but probably the best in the Laurel area. Combine that with the atmosphere of Savage Mill, and its an easy 5 stars.

The bread and pastry tastes exactly as it would in France. Their hot chocolate used to taste that ways as well but either they changed their recipe or it changes depending on who is making it

No ice for tea, tea was awful, desserts were not fresh...just watched them handle the pastry with their hands. Tried to get them to take care of the tea and they just looked at me.
