Buyer beware! While I had hoped to resolve this once the owner saw the quotes I received, he unfortunately opted not to respond. I ordered a two tier cake for my daughters baby shower for her first born-to-be. Just two hours before the event, I went to pick up the cake and was told that the baker was home with her two sick dogs and couldnt bake the cake the day before. He tried to get someone to do a similar cake but was unable to complete it. Not only did he never try to contact me when he found out his employee was unable to make the cake, he tried to charge me nearly 2.5 times the $82 that the baker quoted me. It wasnt until I expressed my frustration that he lowered the price from $199 to $150. I informed him I had the quotes in the bakers handwriting and on his companys paperwork and later emailed the photos of the pages, but he has opted to not respond. I unfortunately was between a rock and a hard shell in that I was hours away from the shower and had no other option for what was supposed to be the centerpiece for her once in a lifetime event (you only get your first baby shower once). It is very disappointing that a local company would not honor the quote it provided. I highly recommend anyone avoid Cakery unless you are open to being disappointed, taken advantage of, and lied to. Separately, the cake was not designed how I ordered it and while the bottom tier was edible, the top tier was not. I am guessing it had to do with the fact it was someone other than the original baker that made and designed the cake.

We live in Lancaster, PA and went to Bowie area for a long weekend for our anniversary. We ordered a cake from the Cakery: chocolate cake, ganache filling, chocolate buttercream icing. It was the best cake weve had since our wedding cake from an all butter bakery in the Los Angeles area 15 years ago. We had plenty of cake to keep eating for days, and were glad we did. The crumb of the cake was moist, dense and chocolatey. When I forked off a bite from my piece of cake, it cut cleanly and sat moistly, solidly on my fork. And then melted in my mouth. The ganache filling (two layers of it) was also delicious--darker chocolate, dense and smooth, as a great ganache should be. And the chocolate buttercream icing was silky smooth. The icing was light brown in color, which surprised my husband when he picked up the cake. But this is because the main ingredient is pure butter, with sugar and chocolate added, no food coloring. They told us they dont normally make the buttercream icing in chocolate, but it was delicious. And all parts of the cake--crumb, ganache, and icing, were just the right sweetness, not overly sweet. It was such an EXCEPTIONAL cake. And it was the same price as Ive paid for far lesser cakes. I just wish the Cakery wasnt a 2.5 hr drive from our house! But we will be coming again next time we are in the Bowie area for another get away weekend.

It is my understanding that the Cakery is under new ownership, and while the name stayed the same, I believe that is it. After reading a lot of glowing reviews for how good everything from here was I decided to order my wifes birthday cake from here. It all started with the most uncomfortable situation trying to order the cake, the guy taking my order, I believe is the new owner, he was not helpful, very polite and nice, but had no clue about anything cake related. After I finally just told him that a plain yellow layered cake with butter cream frosty will do, mainly because I dont know the names for anything else, I was told it would be ready on Saturday morning. The cake looked nice, very pretty decorations, but when you tried it, its like they took straight tub butter and decorated some of the most dense, flavorless, white, not yellow cake I have ever had. None of us could finish a piece, all you could taste was butter. I will not go back.

Awesome bakery. Professional, friendly, family service. Ive bought several last-minute B-day cakes there, and they are tasty, varied, and nicely made. They also have an assortment of baked goods (pies, tarts, stuffed croissants, cookies, muffins/cupcakes, etc.) and will make whatever you need in sweet baked goods. Last week I needed two birthday cakes (twins), and of course I waited until the last minute (twins). I was able to buy one from the case, and they made a second (different flavor) to match the first. The lady I dealt with, Christy, even had the special, character toppers the boys wanted, which no one else had. They have a sampling table for wedding cakes, and a gorgeous sample cake in the window. This store is small and unassuming, prices are at the professional bakery level, but their cakes always get me compliments from the guests. Sadly theyre the last store on the back side of the strip mall, but theres plenty of parking. Worth it!

The Cakery has first rate cakes. No supermarket, Sams Club, BJs, or Costco in the Baltimore-Washington area even comes close, and having lived here for 38 years, Ive tasted a lot of cakes at parties and weddings! Ive even been to one other specialty cake baking establishment, and the Cakery won out by my taste buds. The only problem? I keep forgetting to get my special order for a Valentines Day cake in enough time before Valentines Day (they stop taking special orders well ahead of Valentines Day)!!

On May 26, 2017, I ordered a yellow cake with chocolate frosting and colored balloons for my son’s birthday. When I came to pick it up, the frosting on the cake was not chocolate. It has very light brown almost milky color, balloons were not colored and my son’s name was misspelled. Later we discovered that the cake was not a yellow cake. And I paid 40 dollars for this problematic 8-inch cake. I see that cakes are not this bakery’s specialty. Next time I will buy my cake at Giant, for half the price.

Been here with some Groupons and without! Been so pleased every time! Great selection, quality and prices! Owner is nice too! The bread pudding is the best Ive EVER had!! Ive had their cupcakes, cookies, flourless chocolate cake, mousse cup, lemon tart, fruit tart and German chocolate tart so far and all have been soooo delicious! I love having a local business so close to home I can be proud to support!!

Went to The Cakery for the first time today to try their pastries. We had the cherry danish, cheese danish, and chocolate croissant. Buttery, flaky, fresh. Well worth the extra cost compared to your typical store/chain baked goods. Friendly service. Their cakes, pies, and tarts looked beautiful. Will definitely be going back to try more!

SUPPORT FOR OUR LOCAL BUSINESS IS SO VITAL , natural ingredients natural passion, not made in a factory where they are massed produced, I would rather pay the small difference and be able to pronounce the ingredients in my desert. We enjoyed the Danish . Thanks Chef Moliere

I ordered my daughters first birthday cake here and it was cute and tasted great. It was a round, pink cake with a princess crown drawn on it with a big 1 and said "Happy Birthday" and her name. I plan to order my other daughters cake here, too.
