For years this place was a staple for our family, dating back to my childhood. in recent years Im struggling to find reasons to return. The other night was another in a long series of poor management mishaps that seem to shape the slow decline of this long time establishment. I do carry out from Rips more these days simply due to frequent travel. They basically forward you now directly to the bar/bartender, whom regardless is working is usually uninterested and its not hard to tell. In past years (only a couple past) they used to take care of you out front, the host or hostess treated you as a guest, theyd seat you ask you if you wanted a water or something if you had to wait, that seems too much a burden any more I guess?. My wife loves the MD Crab soup here so on this night I called in an order at 7:55 pm. I was told, that because it was only a couple of bowls of soup it would be ready upon arrival. Makes sense, cause typically soups at these establishments are heated and held in 2-3 Gallon batches throughout service. We live within minutes so it took roughly 4-5 minutes to get there from my home. I arrived at 8:10pm. The young man at the host stand at the door was basically dressed in a Flannel shirt and looked more or less like the kid who takes out the trash or works as a bar back. Not as a host should look. No name tag, nothing that would represent someone of responsibility. Is there Management here at all? I never see it any more. He gave me a glance at best, and I said I was picking up. I wandered back to the bar, the restaurant had maybe 20 or so or less people in the dining areas as best I could tell, no one seemed the least bit rushed. I walked to the bar, and there were 2 other people sitting there. The bartender asked me what I needed and I stated, that Id ordered the soups. She was likely the one Id spoken to only moments ago. The soups of course were not ready when I got there,, I was told they had to be heated up?? Really? Your open till 10pm, you have no soup ready? You did tell me theyd be ready upon arrival. I waited until roughly 8:20 or so,, not terribly long, but the whole Idea of in and out, certainly was not happening. My bill for 2 bowls of Crab soup made with #10 canned diced or crushed tomatoes, Frozen precut vegetables? With a reasonable tip, $14..and change! Yes, 14!!! ( I left $1.75 out of respect to the bartender whom was clearly making no money not because I felt I got Good service at all), I did however get one parting, "sorry for the wait" comment from the bartender. Then later only to found out upon getting home that this wait only guaranteed that one of my soups were even hot at all. The other was at best luke warm? How is this possible? One steaming hot, and one almost cool? Ive said it before and Ill say it again, so long as I am a glutton for punishment this is the type of service Rips has been serving me for the past few years now. Why do I keep coming back you ask? History mostly, History of long ago... I want to see it get better. I really do, I want it to succeed and do well so badly, but it simply cant seem to stop putting its foot in its own mouth. Im a foodie of many years, and former Chef. I work in Customer service for a living, and this place is simply dying on the vine because it appears no one really has passion here. They are bleeding its history dry. PS..After I reheated the soups at home, they were fine. But 14.00++ for me to make the trip over and wait?? Only to have to heat it up myself to eat it within the same half hour it was purchased? I dunno....seems like this was a slam dunk opportunity to get it right, and once again...

Been going to Rips for over 18 years. Mostly for the deli bc its down the road for me, so almost all my beer/liquor purchases have been from here. Ive noticed Rips is always about 10-20% more expensive then other stores in the area but it was local and I liked the country feel. I am moving and went in to grab a few boxes by the front door. I got chased out and treated like I was stealing boxes. I called the manager to complain probability having spent a few thousand over the years I feel entitled to a few boxes they already stack by the front door and he pretty much told me to pound sand. So needless to say I will never go back.. Dont pay the extra money for a country feel.... there is nothing country about this place.

Rips used to be one of my favorite places to dine. I was in love with the prime rib. I went there twice in March. Once for lunch and once for dinner. I hate to say that they have gone done in the quality of the food. I asked for bread at lunch and was informed that they know charge for each roll. Unbelievable that they cannot give customers free BASIC rolls with their price point. For dinner, they did bring out a little loaf of bread but it was different than what they had prior. The prime rib had a lot of fat on it that had to be cut off to get to the actual meat and it simply did not taste the same. I hate that I now have no favorite place to go in that area.

Went here for Breakfast. We ordered Eggs Montoya which is two poached eggs on steak with hollandaise sauce. The eggs were hard cooked. The waitress brought us more eggs that were cooked the same. The eggs she brought came out in little ceramic dishes right from the microwave. Apparently the eggs are not poached as the menu states. The manager and waitress stated that this is the way the kitchen, with owners direction, prepare poached eggs. Maybe its time they should poach the eggs in water or amend the menu description. So sad and what a missed opportunity for a good quality restaurant in Bowie. If you like Chef Mic(rowave) youll love it here.

Use to go to RIPS all the time. Last time I went in November, 2011, things have changed for the worse. Use to serve sweet muffins as bread but no more. Waiter didnt even know menu. Said we could not order two vegetables. Could only get one vegy and salad. Told him we always get two vegys with dinner. Even said so on menu. Finally got manager to straighten him out. Lighting has even changed. Too bright a light. It appears there are new owners or managment as it is going down hill. Never go back again.

I came in for breakfast with my two boys today 2/10 and everything was great! Im sorry that I dont remember our waitress name :/ but she was very sweet and attentive. I was a bit distracted and did leave in a bit of a hurry as it was itty-bittys nap time. P.S. Thank you so much to my fellow diner, the Dodgers fan, who kindly paid for our breakfast! It was very generous of you and Im sorry that you slipped away before we could thank you. P.P.S. I am a California girl so go Dodgers!
