I remember it well. 77. Blizzard. I was thumbin my way up Route One, Scarborough, but barely, couldnt see none through the snow blowin sideways, not much luck for miles. Got lost in South Portland, stopped in a gas station, heard some fool mutterin about maple-glazed prosciutto. Fool had the brightest happiest look in his eyes. After six years on the road movin up the coast, wearin through the soles a my boots, I aint remembered having such a look meself. An I starts wonderin if I ever will again. In my best gentlemen voice I inquired to the location of such a desirable cured meat selection. The fool done told me but wouldnt give me no ride, but that dont bother me none, so I started hoofin it. The Good Lord did test me crossin that bridge, wind whippin across my neck like a knife, moisture freezin my whiskers into razorsharp pins, prickin my chapped lips. I thought Id seen the worst back in Jersey State when a coupla hoodlums took my pack and everythin I had, but Lord Almighty did this gale almost knock me to my knees. Old man freezes to large overwater bridge. Wouldnt even make the 5oclock news. Jeepers. I had to use the railin just to keep on my legs, which were havin hard enough time pushin through the powder. The lights a the city were melded into an orange haze, but I knew somewhere yonder was the key to happiness the rest of my days. Or at least the rest a the night. Or perhaps an hour or so. Never you mind. I wont ramble longer bout the weather. Old dogs could spend years of they lives blowin hot air bout the weather. I aint not much for it. Just know that bridge werent easy, and probably so knocked ten years off my ticker. Didnt take me long to find the place once I was in the neighborhood. They looked at me funny when I first walked, but everybody does so I dont mind none. But once I got my cap off and jacket slung back onna chair, the counter lady did smile at me something bright. I knows I aint nothing to look at, but that smile warmed me up inside more than the hottest cup of joe. I placed my order, paid, and waited. In no time, this sandwich was ready, hot and wrapped in foil. My Lord. Maple glazed prosciutto. Id never had anything like it, I reckon I never will. Im a ramblin man, cant stay in one place too too long, but I promised myself and the Lord that day to return to this heavenly spot. A lady like that. If I ever got it in my fool head to settle down somewhere, take up a lifestyle or something. Maybe find me a kind woman to faun and fight for, Id give my left leg (my good leg, too) that she be anywhere near as kind and capable of creatin a meal such as that. Id die a round, happy man. But those thoughts only stick around as long as it takes for the itch to come back, and I gotta hit the trail. Theres a lotta world out there I aint seen yet, but I knows Im bound to. Wanderin aint so much a habit as it is just the ways I am. Some things in life you can quit, but then theres others you just dont want to.

Finally went into Ohno Cafe on Brackett Street this weekend. I grabbed a Grilled Shrimp BLT on soft Ciabatta bread to go. It came with a choice of one side: small salad, homemade pasta or potato salad. I got the latter & it was tangy (definitely made with pickle juice, herbs & chopped red onion) but delicious. People were constantly stopping in to order as I waited a quick five minutes. Staff was polite & friendly. Place was tidy, quaint & clean. Ive been told by many that their fresh & unique BREAKFAST SANDWICHES are the real treat! But I was impressed by their lunch, too. Will definitely go there again!

Delicious variety of breakfast sandwiches and hot sauces to go with them. Just be advised for weekends- you could end up waiting 45 minutes for your sandwich, and they dont tell you what the wait-time is when theyre taking your order either in person or via phone. And you wont get an apology unless you ask for one. Great sandwiches, horrific wait time and customer service on weekends.

Probably one of the best "hole in the wall" places that you can get fantastic food. The weekend is crazy busy, but well worth the wait. The staff is great, amount of menu choices are just right, food is always fresh and very tasty....overall a great choice for any meal.

Finally tried this local spot on my way to work. Nice atmosphere, but a bit pricey even for the near West End location. I ordered a plain bagel, egg & cheese breakfast sandwich (no meat) and only got a bit of loose change back from my $5.

No impressed today. Their menu online does not represent the current pricing. Their store smelled of burnt bread and I found out it was my sandwich a several others. Great looking salad but all I could taste was the burnt sandwich today.

Great breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Best to order ahead on the phone. Great sandwiches for the slopes or trails! Be sure to pack your tinfoil wrapped sandwich in a plastic bag because these delightful beasts are juicy.

Excellent place to grab a sandwich! We were really impressed with the Bailey Bagel that our sandwiches were served on. The ingredients are all fresh and delicious. One sandwich was plenty big enough for breakfast.

Love OhNo so much! Most Portlanders know their order by number! A must for anyone living or visiting. Convenient location near Maine Med and the West End, or making the trek across the bridge to south Portland.

If you want good food, quick, this is the place! Just try it and you will see. They have the best steak wrap in the City (The only problem is its an item that you cannot get all of the time, it is a special).

Great breakfast sandwiches all day for a great price. The cafe is small with only a few seats but they do a lot of take out. Good selection of beer and wine to take home as well!

This small corner Cafe has really good sandwiches and drinks. I ordered a mango bean burger which was really great. It is a very friendly, comfortable plant decorated spot.

The breakfast sandwiches live up to the hype. The guy screams your name like an animal which was fun. Their fridge is stocked with good Portland beer. Pace is slow.

Quick friendly service, excellent breakfast and dinner sandwiches, and a great beer and wine selection. The number 5 is the best breakfast sandwich in the West End!

One of the best breakfast sandwiches in Portland. Great vegetarian options. They have a great beer and wine selection too. Orders can be called in ahead of time.

Simply the best breakfast sandwiches around. Try a number one (I like mine on an English muffin, instead of the standard bagel) or a number two.
