Just made my first visit to Kon. Its in what used to be the old Valles and the building has been completely redone and it doesnt even look like the same place. The decor is also very nicely done with reds and blacks and lighting that gives it a more romantic feel. My husband and I went with our twin girls for sushi but decided instead to do the hibachi grill just to make it a little more fun for them. Though we didnt have a reservation they were able to seat us within 10 minutes with another family of four. The service was good, and the food was plentiful. My husband had the filet mignon with scallops and I had the filet mignon with shrimp ($27 & $28). It included a 2 shrimp appetizer, a green salad with ginger dressing, a clear soup, vegetables, and fried rice. Our girls had the kids shrimp and scallops ($11 and $11.50) which included the same extras with the exception of only 1 shrimp appetizer. Everything was seasoned very well and tasted wonderful. The fried rice was the best wed ever had. Though it was a bit pricier than we would usually spend for a family evening out we were not disappointed with what we got for the money. We cant wait to go back and try the sushi!

Atmosphere, bar, drinks, food quality, and menu selection are great. Service sometimes average/indifferent - other times good to excellent. Hibachi: Dining on the tabled side of the restaurant is all we have ever tried here; I dont usually enjoy hibachi for the forced consumption of cooking sake sprayed from a condiment container, smoke, and grease spatter, though the food is often worth it. Dining room: Enjoy their soups very much. All the sushi is to die for. Paradise roll truly is paradise. We always come in drooling for that roll! Menu is typical for this sort of Asian fusion restaurant. Not greasy or MSG-laden. Table service is typically not very personable, sometimes even seemingly bored with you. Sometimes not. I usually go for the company of those I arrive with, so this is not usually an issue, but sometimes you may feel like you are bothering the staff by asking for something. Bar: We enjoyed sitting at the bar, and chatting with the bar tender. Service was attentive and prompt, earning good tips from us. Only had a few beers and an opening pre-game pair of shots, but no complaints there.

Went for the Hibachi part of the restaurant. Where they cook what you order right in front of you. They definetly put on a show. Loved it. The whole family had a blast. They light the table afire, cook veggies and toss them into your mouth. Pour saki into your mouth from few feet away. Juice for the kids. We will definetly be going back. I want to try the flaming dragon bowl, alcoholic beverage, on my next visit. Had the steak and shrimp. Delicious. Also ordered sushi to go. Was a great after dinner refill up. They also have regular tables you dont have to do the hibachi and a fully stocked bar with seating. A great menu with lunch and daily specials. Talking about it makes me want to go back today.

Did the teppenyaki table with a big group including young kids. Everyone loved it. It is perfect for all ages and the food was fantastic; the best teppenyaki choices and quality I have ever seen/had. Everything was cooked perfectly and the chefs flair was top notch. For what you get, I thought the prices were extremely reasonable. Splitting a combo entree was plenty too and well worth the split plate charge. The specialty cocktails were a little sweet, so maybe stick with your standard if youre sensitive to that. For being in the sticks a little, it has kind of a chic urban vibe when you get in too. Overall, I would highly recommend this place; it was the best on our trip!

Attempted to dine for lunch at 12:45 on 07/15/14 and because I was solo they would not sit me in the Hibachi Grill area. Also, would not make accommodations for a food allergy. Im a CEO of my company & often Dine alone at Hibachi Grills all across the U.S. Im finding that this solo policy is consistent but seriously can a restaurant afford to lose on a $30 order. There were others at the Hibachi Grill already so I would not have been completely solo. This would have gotten 0 stars if possible.

First visit. Sushi sampler. Warm rice cool fish. Will go back for a full meal in the near future. Taking my friend with me. Pretty standard menu, but, warm rice and cool fish makes me want more from this sushi bar. Im hoping she enjoys their Pad Thai as much as I look forward to their sushi. I went I Saturday afternoon after work just out of curiosity. The takeout made me decide to go back for lots more. Decent prices, too!

Wow run far away from this place as you can. We had to wait over an hour for food, which ended up coming out cold any ways. When we requested some sort of compensation the manager said very rudely that their was nothing she could do. She would send us a single cheese cake though? How are 12 people suppose to split one piece of cheese cake. Please patrons go to Fuji, where people actually take care of you.

My oh my what a horrible day. We went their with a party of 6 and it was a disaster. I couldnt believe how I was being treated. I had to wonder if a manager was even on duty. I could tell I wasnt the only one upset because the neighboring tables were also ver disgruntled at the fact the food was taking so long. Needless to say i will never return.

One of my favorite places to get sushi! The hibachi, and main dishes are also wonderful. I generally am here for lunch. They have some great lunch deals and smaller portions. If you order right away, you can be in and out in less than 30min. I highly recommend the dried sezchuan beef. Its like candied beef for your taste buds!

My wife and I went for our 15 year anniversary, and it was fabulous. From the seaweed salad, Sashimi, or Thai calamari for appetizers to the 7 sushi rolls we had to for dinner. It was all fresh and delicious. The dynamite roll, white tuna and salmon sashimi where some of the best bites of food I have ever eaten in my while life.

Used to come here every year...but my last visit was my last visit ever.. worst hostess and bartender... Stayed at the hotel next door and was denied service because I was spotted drinking a beer on the walk over from my room... Grouchy end of shift slackers with no motivation to help such a great establishment survive

A great place for a birthday party with entertaining hibachi chefs. Also great for sushi with all the standard fare. The crispy dried shredded beef is one of my favorite dishes anywhere. The hibachi food is great, but watch out for the sake. In the words of my chef: "More sake, more babies!".

They were a little understaffed, but that didnt stop the only waitress to do her best. She did everything to accommodate us & was even patient, not making us feel rushed, even though she was very busy. The food and drinks were good! Would recommend!

The perfect blend of quality and affordability. When I take my friends here, they can hardly believe how well priced and fantastic the experience is. Its all the charm and atmosphere of a Downtown Portland restaurant without any of the traffic.
