The Eagle (formerly Avalon) has one of the best patios and outdoor bars in Louisville. Theyve done a very nice job with the design and I love hanging out there, but unfortunately, the service is not quite up to snuff. Each of the three times Ive been, the bartenders have taken quite a few minutes to even acknowledge my presence, even though they werent busy. I used to be a bar manager and the number one rule I had was that bartenders must always make eye contact with new patrons, and if busy, politely mention "Ill be right with you". The food is decent, but on the high side for what you get. One of their most popular dishes is macaroni and cheese served in a cast iron skillet. I will give it one or two more tries to see if my experience improves -- the patio is that nice.

Arrived late, kitchen closed but didnt alert hostess or wait staff. We ordered our food and moments later, who seemed to be the owner or manager, advised us the kitchen began to close and many things we had orderd had already been broken down. Disappointed, he immediately submitted a solution without my prompting. He allowed us to try several remaining dishes on the house because of the error. It wasnt exactly what we ordered, but boy was I pleased. The chicken, skillet corn bread, biscuits, spinach dip; yes, yes, yes, yes. This was our first time, and I was impressed. From the food, to the design of the restaurant, to the excellent customer service, I give everything 5 stars.

We had a reservation for a party of 8 at 6 PM on a weekday. We arrived early and to a half empty restaurant. They placed our party in the very back in a booth with a small table. The table was more suited for a party of 4. We opted for the family style dinner (Which the Eagle recommends for parties >6). When the food arrived there wasnt enough room on the table. We were forced to stack chicken on top of chicken and sides on top of sides. It was very uncomfortable. The food was great and the service was on par. When we exited the restaurant, we noticed a much larger table (that was empty when we arrived) had a total of 6 guest at it.

I have a disability and it was extremely difficult to climb in the bar stool chairs. They only had one table that was low and it was taken. The food was over priced. The chicken had rave reviews but I wasnt impressed. The menu was very limited. The waiter started off strong n satisfactory, then when our food came out he never checked on us or refilled our drinks. The manager came out and noticed we hadnt been taken care of and assisted my friend and I. I would have rather eaten at another place but my friend chose this for her birthday. Two thumbs down. Cool bathroom and set up tho.

This place is awesome! Their fried chicken is the best Ive ever tasted. I got the Fried Chicken BLT a current seasonal item, that Im hoping will end up on the permanent menu. Their sides are great too! I recommend the spoonbread. It is a la carte , the sides tend to feed 2-3 people. Price for the food is really reasonable. The drinks are a little steep, but worth price. The staff is very friendly as well. They have a nice outdoor patio, didnt get to try it out as it was way too humid. I highly recommend checking this place out. I know Ill be back.

Oh how we miss El Camino. The Eagle is short on vegetarian options, and the grilled cheese that you will find is ruined by having fruit on it. The Mac n cheese is redeeming, but for the most part the limited menu is not that great. Also, the bloody marys are undrinkably thick. We had to pour wter from our glasses it into the blodoys to make them drinkable. Props for having a decent dog-friendly outside, but major point reduction for having the fire pits on during the middle of a nice, clear day and wasting copious gas and polluting unnecessarily.

Great food, great service, no price gouging and very nice atmosphere. I have had take out several times and the food has been way above expectations. In fact I feel bad for selling this place short when they came to Louisville, expecting chain quality food and generic menu. Not the case at all. Funny thing is you can eat here for the price of some cocktails at other places these days. Portions are very generous too. Great addition to the area.

We travelled here from St. Louis, MO and wanted some authentic Kentucky fried chicken. We got it and it was the best fried chicken Ive ever had. Jeremy the manager was really nice and recommended the Mac n cheese. It was amazing. We also ordered the spoonbread which was very good. All of the staff was super nice and the prices were very reasonable for the amount of food you get. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Stopped in with not even an hour till close and the staff were still extremely warm and welcoming. The bar features an extensive bourbon selection, and our bartender Brents service was beyond awesome. Both our starters and chicken came out surprisingly fast and were delicious. Pretty sure this is our new Sunday spot.

The bacon was not what I expected, but I probably didnt read the menu correctly. Food was very good, waitress was almost forcing me to take home my left over Mac n cheese when I clearly said I did not want to because we were traveling. Bar tender was nice conversation. Did I mention the food was amazing?

Great food, atmosphere, and people. Would highly recommend. The spoonbread and mac n cheese are a must. I tried the burgoo which was delicious! Good beer and cocktail selections. The owner, Nick, stopped to personally talk to us about our experience, and he was very friendly and nice.

If youre into fried chicken and beer this is the place for you. Otherwise one of the many other restaurants on Bardstown Road would be a better option. Very limited food menu. Good selection of beers and suitable selection from the bar. What food items they do have are done well.

Happiness means fried chicken... Well fried chicken and beer and this place has got it! The honey and Tabasco sauce take this wonderful fried chicken to the next level. All these wonderful things along with a decent beer list makes this a pretty cool spot.

Think going to your grandmas house on a Sunday kind of meal. The chicken is good, made even better with their spicy honey. What makes this place I think is the sides. Most of them are sized to share, even though they are so good you wont want to...

Fantastic food and a friendly fun experience which special thanks to the manager, Jeremy who made sure my wife and I were well treated. We will be back again and again. The best. This is definitely top of our list of places to go in Louisville!
