I tried A Taste of China for the first time tonight, getting take-out. I am unlikely to return. I dont mind shabby-but-clean. This place is shabby & skungy gross. When you walk in everything smells of grease. There were food bits on the tables, a film of greasy dirt on everything else, the windows & doors & walls streaked & splattered with assorted ick, & the fan pointing at the kitchen area had strings of dirt hanging from its frame. Despite the unpleasant surroundings I ordered 3 dishes because I wanted to try a range of things. The steamed rice was good. The beef w/ Chinese vegetables was adequate: the pieces of beef were of good size & reasonably tender. There was nothing Chinese about the vegetables (carrots, snow peas, celery) but at least were not overcooked. However all of it was coated with a very salty, gelatinous, generic brown sauce. The chicken with mixed vegetables (from the "diet" menu) had large pieces of white-meat chicken & lots of veggies. It was cooked with zero seasoning -not even soy sauce- and so was profoundly bland. I also ordered pork chow mein. The dish I got had pork & various sliced veggies, but had no noodles. It was as if they made the dish but forgot the noodles. How do you forget the noodles in a dish whose very name *means* noodles? Since I was really craving noodles, this was a large strike against the restaurant, but it could have been a bizarre mistake & I would have given them another chance. The things that changed this from being a 3-star "mediocre but cheap" review to a 2-star "I wont go there again" review were the fried dough & the fortune cookies. The fried dough was off - they need to change their oil because it tastes old. And then there were the fortune cookies. They were not stale - I could of coped with stale. I was expecting stale after the condition of everything else Id tried. Instead the fortune cookies were profoundly rancid. Id ordered extra because I love fortune cookies. I opened the wrappers & smelled each of them. Every single one was bad. Its been 30 minutes & Im still trying to get the taste out of my mouth from the first rancid fortune cookie that I accidentally started to eat before spitting it out in disgust. *shudders* Ugh.

Ive ate here a lot. Never really had an issue, except for the usual lady who answers the phones sometimes being a little rude, but its a hard job in a crappy part of town, so she probably deals with really awful people all day. But today our experience was different. The fried donuts were okay, kind of greasy but not bad, and the pink lemonade was perfect. But the honey bbq wings didnt have much meat on it this time, and it tasted weird. The bourbon chicken combo meal we got was hard and gristley. There was a long, thin, hard piece of meat that almost looked like pork included. Not sure what kind of meat it was. When we called to complain, the woman kept treating us like liars and talked down to us, saying it was impossible for the meal to be bad quality. She kept being rude on the phone and twice accused us of yelling, when the only one yelling was her (as well as interrupting us). The woman that took the phone from her was much nicer but kept giving us the run around. I told her I wanted either a credit or my money back for the $7.50 bourbon combo that was so awful, and she refused, saying her computer would not let her do that unless we brought it in ourselves to return it. I wasnt about to do that in the dark in this rough neighborhood, and they werent budging, so we reluctantly let it drop and got off the phone, feeling really upset about the whole situation. The honey bbq wings may be good, but I dont know if theyre good enough to continue ordering after this whole ordeal. We may not order from them again. What we went through tonight was just bad customer service.

This is my third time ordering from them....the second time wasnt that bad, he was just late due to running into a train on the way here. The driver that I had the first and this time looked like a thug. He was so unprofessional and over the time limit by thirty minutes each time...took him at least an hour and a half.... and he acted like he didnt give a jack crap about his job. One of the ladies who answered also sounded like she didnt give a jack crap about her job also. The other lady was rude...the asian lady. The only reason why I kept ordering was because it was good, but after finding a piece of material that looked like a piece of hair in my food, this will be the last time that Ill ever order from them again!!! I would advise you if you are going to order from these people ask for a driver who doesnt bring you food 30+ minutes later then what they say the expected delivery time would be. This wasnt the first time that my order was late...the guy delivered to the same place as the first time and still couldnt figure out where it was...how dumb can you be!? He had a blue car the first time with a chick in the passenger seat and a red car the second time. The only reason why they are getting two-stars is because the second time wasnt that bad and the guy called and said why he was late before he arrived.

The worst experience of my life. I have ordered food many times from them. Last night was disgusting Spent $47.00 and had to re-cook most of it in the oven for it to be even fit to eat. Egg rolls, Sweet and sour pork and shrimp all under cooked and raw dough on the inside. Ordered at 8:15 and did not receive it until after 9:30. When I called to check on order was told it was a large order???(really). I just called today to express my concern and the manager was rude and I was told all food cooked with a timer so this did not happen. All she did was make excuses and that I didn’t know what I was talking about. Some one needs to explain to her that all she needed to do was say I’m sorry and I appreciate the feed back. I will make sure this does not happen again. We appreciate you business. Please note I did not ask for anything off for me giving her my money for raw undercooked garbage. I’m so glad her business is doing so well that she does not need to give a damn about her customer.

This is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant. I always place either an online order or a delivery by phone. Each time I am met with great customer service. A few times when I have called, they placed me on hold to take another call. Within 30 seconds, Im placing my order. At times they get busy, and I work customer service so I understand the concept with dealing with customers, rude and all, so I have a bit more patience than some. I had even placed a delivery by phone and the woman who picked it up sounded tired so I joked with her to get her relaxed a bit and she was good for the rest of my order. I havent had any problems with the orders, the delivery time nor the delivery drivers. I just placed an order today and my food was exactly what was ordered even when the woman taking my order was taking two other calls at the same time.
