If I could give this zero stars I would. Very poor customer service. Never going back. That is very hard for me to write. I love sushi and I love the sushi train. I dont know of another place like this in the area. However, after I personally spoke with the store owner tonight, I am never returning. My boyfriend and I were seated at the train no later than 7:30. The official website for the restaurant and Google both say the happy hour train lasts till 8:30. We both figured wed have plenty of time to eat delicious sushi. We were wrong. The train was fairly empty whenever we got there and we patiently waited for new sushi. All that was left were crab rangoons, dumplings and maybe 6 other plates but they were all the same roll! We know this sushi bar is quality but that is not what we saw tonight. There were 3 people in the middle doing things. At first we thought they were producing new sushi but then it became apparent they were wrapping everything up. I asked our server if they were going to put more sushi out. She told us it was slow and they were cleaning up for the night. We had only grabbed 5 plates between the two of us and were in no way satisfied. We then Asked to speak to a manager and asked for our check. We didnt want to order from the menu, we came for the delicious train! We waited for awhile. The server came back with our check and was shocked that the manager hadnt spoken to us. She then pointed to a grumpy man in the middle and said he was the manager. He never approached us, never tried to explain the situation or try to appease us. He told the waitress the situation was under control and didnt say a word to us, the increasingly angry customers. We then asked to speak to his boss. He then told us he was the owner of the establishment! This amazed me! He is the owner of the place! The face of his company and he did nothing at all to resolve the situation. I have worked in retail for 7 years and been a manager for 4. That is no way to treat an unsatisfied customer. The owner took nothing off our ticket and continued to talk about us quite loudly to his staff. We could hear him as we left the building. My boyfriend and I enjoy sushi very much and we (up until tonight) really enjoyed Sakura. I am a reasonable person and understand preparing to close when business is slow. But when new guests are seated an hour before the train is supposed to be closed, new sushi should have been made or the server should have told us before seating us that the only sushi we could have would be the old leftovers on the train, which clearly were left there because none of the other guests found them desirable. The biggest disappointment of all was the way the owner handled our situation. My boyfriend and I are never returning here again. Shoguns is right down the street, is much better and has much better customer service.

If I could I would give them ZERO stars. I had heard good things about Sakura, and decided to come here for lunch with my cousins. We were greeted at the door and asked if wed like to sit at the train bar, or a regular table. Since weve never been there before we thought wed try the train. Our waitress comes and takes our drink orders, and leaves. Doesnt bother asking us if weve been here before or letting us know what dishes cost what. She came back after a while with our drinks and I had to call out to her before she left to ask about the sushi train. Each dish color apparently cost a certain amount and they add up the amount of dishes and charge you afterwards. Now to the sushi train we go! But wait.... We take a look at the sushi train and there are only some things that we were interested in trying or eating. We waited a while for the chefs to put up some more sushi, but they never did. Our server never came back to us to ask us how things were going, or tried telling the chefs they needed to put more food on the train. I asked the hostess if there was some kind of sushi menu. She handed me 3 different "menus" or sheets of worn down laminated paper. The pricing and how they structured their menu was very confusing. We decided to wait and see if there would be more sushi put on the train, since we couldnt understand the menu, and the hostess obviously could not explain to us the menu. We ended up leaving only eating 2 dishes eat of sushi (by the way theres only 2-3 pieces on there). We paid and left, and went to Lenexa to Edokko instead, where I KNOW I get great service and sushi.

I have eaten at the new Olathe location twice now. The first visit was just okay - my husband wanted the beef teriyaki that is listed on their lunch menu online. We were told that this meal isnt typically served at the new location, but that they would accommodate. 20 minutes later they bring out a gigantic steak, and charged him $18.95 for it (the lunch price is listed as 7.95). Our service was poor, and we were left waiting for long periods of time for refills, our check, etc. When we advised them that we thought we had ordered what was listed online on their lunch menu, they would only reduce the price to $12.95. Still, we returned for a second visit, for some reason. This time we both ordered meals specifically off the lunch menu, to avoid any confusion. The sweet and sour chicken was awful. It did not taste sweet nor sour, and the quality of the meat was extremely poor. My husband ordered the teriyaki chicken, which was also extremely poor quality. He requested fried rice instead of white, which was accommodated - but we were not told it would cost an extra $2.50. And, the friend rice looked like some odd soupy mess, that my husband took one bite of and set aside. Again, the service was extremely poor. We had to ask for our check and even then we were told it is "in the computer" and available when we were ready. The sushi artists are very friendly and quick, and I do enjoy the atmosphere. I just wish I enjoyed the rest of the experience - we will not be returning.

If youre a sushi lover, but youre hungry NOW, then climb aboard the sushi train at Sakura Japanese Restaurant for some immediate sushi gratification. The 360-degree sushi bar is encircled by a model train track. Diners at the bar just sit back and watch as the sushi train rolls by, loaded with freshly made, delicious sushi rolls. When you see one you like, just grab the dish from the flatbed train car and start chowing down. The team of 3 to 4 experienced sushi chefs is working constantly to keep the train cars loaded with little plates of sushi. Its perfect for sushi-newbies, or even those who arent sure theyre going to like sushi. Since each dish usually contains 1 to 3 pieces, and each dish costs around $2.50 to $3, its a great way to sample a wide variety of rolls and pieces without committing to a whole roll you may not like. The train is always busy, but the friendly, hardworking wait staff are great at getting everyone seated and eating as fast as possible. Worth a trip if youve got a sushi hankering that just cant wait!
