My girlfriend and I enjoyed a meal at the Depot Crossing recently and, seeing the previous negative review, I felt I needed to speak up. We both had a sirloin steak (with sides), a glass of wine, and an artichoke dip with bread. Lets begin: The steak was an inch thick and very tender. No steak sauce required. I had mine medium; my theory on steak is if Im eating at Applebees Ill have it well done and use 57 sauce, but if Im at a place that serves a good steak Ill have it medium. The sides were good, but nothing special. The place had a sweet blush wine for her and a nice full bodied red wine for me. Overall I enjoyed the meal. The artichoke dip appetizer was delicious and worth a special visit (presuming you were passing by Grinnell anyhow). The service was acceptable (for me, the best "service" is acceptable because I simply want an efficient and invisible waiter / waitress to bring food and take away plates). Downsides: the price was $40 for two people, which is isnt bad but a bit steep for Grinnell, Iowa. Also the wine glass was not crystal and, while clean, wasnt spotless. Overall: 3 / 5 stars (1 star = Applebees; 5 star = 1+ Michelin Star). Id definately eat here again.

We had another wonderful dining experience at "The Peppertree at the Depot" in Grinnell last night. The food was great, the service was great, and we love the atmosphere of the restored depot. The only thing missing was a train. (Better odds for that experience at lunch!). My wife got the Chicken Brushetta Pasta, which was excellent and a large enough portion for lunch later in the week. I got one of their classic steaks with garlic mashed potatoes and an add-on 4 shrimp to make my own "Surf & Turf" combo. I also got the opportunity to educate our waitress on the "widget" in the cans of Guinness beer! A great dining experience for a very reasonable price

Worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. The meal took over 2 1/2 hours. First they forgot to cook 2 members of our partys meals. They did offer to make it half price which they forgot when they got the bill and were extremely rude when reminded them. Next we ordered a bottle of wine and they brought a more expensive bottle told us it was the version we ordered and then charged us extra because we didnt catch their mistake. The waitress got three orders incorrect. The night was ruined by the service which is unfortunate because the food was pretty good. DO NOT COME HERE.

The food was amazing! The atmosphere is really neat! The hostess was very helpful! Even when I had to ask her for our waitress. Thats where they lost two stars because we had horrible service. After asking for the waitress, it still took about 5 minutes for the waitress to come to the table. And we after we waited for about 15 minutes after finishing our food, we had to ask a different server for our check. Horrible service, just horrible.

The only problem you may encounter here is deciding what to choose from the delicious menu. The soup was incredible, I cut my steak with my FORK, the desserts were amazing! On top of that, the atmosphere was fantastic, and our server was so friendly and helpful. Im only in town on a business trip, and am so disappointed that I dont have a restaurant in my hometown that can compare.

We had a fantastic new years eve dinner at the Peppertree! Their "abbreviated" menu had lots of delicious choices that more than pleased our entire party and the service was superb. We even found a little room for dessert and coffee...the Ultimate chocolate cake was...well, just that!

I had a very tasty rainbow trout dish here. I got the Caesar salad, which was good, but I couldnt help wishing I got the Greek salad like the rest of the people at my table since it looked very good the feta, red onion, and tomatoes.

We had dinner here when in town to look at Grinnell College. Its a beautiful restaurant. The food is good, but my steak was perfect but my sons was way overdone and the waitress was kind of rude.
