Its not that its bad but its your typical Indianapolis Chinese unfortunately containing dark meat chicken with a good amount of fat and mystery material in the General Tsos, sesame chicken, and other chicken dishes. I was born and raised in Indy and all I knew was Egg Roll Number One and places like this, and the Oriental Buffet style Chinese food. Then I moved to Detroit metro area there there is an insane amount of restaurants and the competition is fierce up there. And the Chinese food is just so much better which introduced me to how it can be and how it actually is in many different cities around the country. Delicious all white meat chicken in General Tsos chicken, seriously???? Boy did I instantly feel ripped off, my entire 20 and some odd years were spent not knowing how delicious take out Chinese can be. And its that good at every restaurant I went to, with some being absolutely incredible. With all that said, this is a good restaurant for what it is.......

I have been going to the Oriental Inn for over 15 years. I have never had a bad meal there. Their Hot and Sour Soup is the only soup I will drive to get even though there are Chinese places closer to home. When I walk in, they know exactly what I would like but will ask first if I would like my "usual." The owner believes that no one should go home hungry, so the meals are very generous for the price. For the reviewers that questioned chicken wing and the egg roll, ask for a substitution (which might cost a little bit more depending on the item). They are friendly people that go out of their way to make you feel welcomed.

Im not usually much of a Chinese food person, but this place has me back in. The food is really good, their lo mein is especially delicious. The single best Hot and Sour soup Ive ever had, and its only a few bucks! The customer service is out of this world. As in tipping when picking up carry out good. If anyone needs a lesson in how to treat a customer just watch these people work. Extremely nice, very helpful and just gracious to have each of their customers. Ask for the Korean options as well, theyre off menu but they make them. oh and bring your kids, the staff treats them very specially.

My family has been going here for over 10 years. The food is great (the portions are very large too), and the service is consistently friendly. Try the seeafood soup if you life seafood. One of the other reviewers mentioned that the surrounding neighborhood has gone down hill, but the restaurant still draws people in -- I completely agree. The restaurant stands in sharp contrast with its surroundings. I would recommend it to anyone in Indianapolis.

The food was Ok. I went during my lunch break. The meal was good (garlic chicken with white rice).... But I cant figure out why I got a chicken wing with my meal...?? Better yet, my co-worker is a vegetarian....and ordered a Tofu/Veggie dish...and also got a chicken wing. And her Tofu was overcooked…. I might go back, but if so, I will know to ask them to hold the chicken wing and the Spare Rib bits they put in their eggrolls…(yuck!)

The service is always great. The food is always fresh and always quick service. We have never had to wait for a table. I really enjoy the crab Rangoon and the egg rolls. Their sesame chicken is really delicious. Everything is always crisp and fresh. They have been in Business for a very long time. I highly recommend them if you want to enjoy a nice Chinese restaurant that serves you and is not the buffet style restaurant.

Best all around Chinese food in Indy. They also have a killer Korean menu if you ask. Service is always friendly and fast. Typical old style Chinese restaurant decor makes you comfortable right away. Amazing that this gem has survived the blight and neglect of the near east side. Now that the area seems to be fighting back a bit, I hope they prosper. Forget PF Chang and his corporate cousins, this is the place to eat!!

Ordered Mongolian Beef and Chicken with Cashews (Dinner B) along with fried rice and Egg Drop Soup. I think the Mongolian Beef, fried rice and Egg Drop soup were delicious. The side of egg roll and crab rangoon were just ok. So far this is the best sit down or carry out Chinese place Ive eaten at since moving here in July 2014. I was looking for something that was NOT a buffet and I finally found it.

This is by far, the best Chinese food I have ever had. I have been coming here for around 10 years and I have never had a bad experience after many, many times eating here. The food is made to order fresh. I usually get crab rangoons, hot and sour soup, and General Tsos Chicken. The food is all very flavorful. The staff is very friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant!

First we had a couple of Mai Tais... and they were wrong. They were like flat sprite. Then there were the chicken wings that were approx two days old... next beef teriyaki on a stick... only minus the teriyaki and again a day or two old. They had to ask how to make a Scorpion bowl... then the main courses were made with an absurd amount of sriracha sauce.

Awsome customer service and employees/staff were friendly!!! The lady did a really good job at our order and water was refilled without asking. Food tasted really good and fresh compared to other upscale restaurants. Price was really reasonable for how the food tasted. Will be going there soon again. Would recommend to friends & family.

Wow, this was truly a wonderful Oriental based restaurant. Service was really great great and helpful, the food was absolutely outstanding! All the classics you could expect were wonderfully made and then some. (Fortune cookies included also) It was overall really nice and I wouldnt hesitant to go again.

Im from Los Angeles and realized finding great authentic ethnic food is not easy in Indy, but Oriental Inn has great food and service even compared to my favorite spots from back home. They even have real Kim-chi which is an even greater plus since I am Korean and that is a must side with any dish!

Ive been going to this place since I was a kid, and even though the neighborhood may have gone downhill, this place hasnt at all. Still some of the best Chinese in the city, and the lunch specials cant be beat. The garlic chicken and egg drop soup are terrific.

The Shrimp Fried rice was sticky and horrible. Pepper steak was good. Thats the reason for 1 star. There is an old lady walking around in there that gives you mean looks. The waitress we had was really nice and the cashier was sweet. Wont be back though.....
