This gem of a coffee shop is located just inside the Athenaeum, at the top of the stairs. Coffees include fresh brewed, espresso, and flat white. I believe pastries, slow pour, and tea are in the works as well. For my first trip, I tried both an espresso and a flat white. The espresso was very balanced, smooth, juicy, and had great body. The flat white was a perfect balance of milk and coffee to where the flavor of both was well represented. This particular coffee was a single origin from Tinker Coffee Co, a local roaster just north near 16th street and Delaware. Several shops in Indy feature their coffee, but this was a great showing of their hard work and bean selection. The space is the perfect example of a mix use space. Bar and table seating is available, both comfortable and welcoming. Lastly, Neal and his crew were open and warm, answering questions, sharing coffee prep tips, and showing pride in their space. Working near Mass Ave, coffee options have been limited for a long time. This shop, and one other down the street, are a welcome shift in the right direction. Now you can shop local, while enjoying local coffee. Keep it up guys!

Best coffee in Indy that Ive had. The roaster is local (Tinker) but that is not what makes this place so good: its the dedication to a perfect espresso drink - right temperature of the milk, fresh beans that arent burnt, clean equipment etc. The space itself was quirky; fine to work in, large, plenty of outlets, but a little loud as it acted as a lobby for the building it was in. Staff were very nice and welcoming.

Being from Seattle, I like to check out good coffee in any city I visit. Coat Check lives up to my snobbishly high standards. The coffee drinks are made with precision. They do take a while, but the space has countless arrangements of comfortable seating. I did appreciate the super-nice staff, too. Indys lucky to have this place.

I was initially sceptical of the athenaeum upgrades but coat check makes it work and brings in a crowd that has brought new life to the building. Their coffee is delicious and my wife raves about the croissants. Really cool staff that is friendly, laid back, but somehow still professional and productive. Really great place!

Absolutely love Coat Check. Their brewed coffee is great, espresso is even better, and everyone working there is incredibly nice and helpful. They also make their own cashew milk in house, which is freaking awesome. Favorite shop in town.

This is a great cafe. Everything they do is just right. The space is also wonderful. I love black coffee. Here it is always dialed in perfectly. This is hard to do, and this is one of a handful of places in town that are able to do it.
