Nice looking place but kind of bare inside. I ordered mozzarella cheese sticks that the sign clearly read that it came with Marinara, they charged me almost $9.00 for a little more than a pound and than told me I had to buy the sauce for an additional $6. I asked the young man why and he said that it doesnt come with it. I showed him the sign in his case and he said we must of made a mistake, but I can not give you free sauce. The mistake part was good, but than to say I am not giving you free sauce with his nose up at me is insane. The staff in this place is filled with young kids that could care less. I went over to the wine section of the store found a nice bottle $35 wine for our Christmas gathering and I asked the lady stocking the shelves if they have gift bags for the wine, she looked at me funny and said yes of course we do but you have to pay for it. I smiled and told her I understand and I wasnt expecting it for free, but could you tell me where they are. She walked me over and said there they are, now if you bought 6 bottles we could throw in this nice box to put them into. I said no thank you and she grunted in discus as she walked away briskly. Its funny a new high priced store with no greeters, no friendly smiles, people with a poor attitude and they werent even busy, but everyone you ask a question is put out because you are talking to them. Standard Market may look nice but whomever did the hiring missed out on the fact they when people spend a few hundred dollars in their store should be more respectful and polite. And by the way your mozzarella was good but your speck was just OK and not worth the money we spent on it.

I will never eat here again. We came here to eat a casual dinner (burgers). There is no host stand. You walk up to the register and place your order and find a table. Or so I was told by the cashier. We found an empty table on the patio and sat. After a few minutes a server came to the table and asked if we would get up from a table-without an option of another table, because another couple had been waiting. I was actually speechless and before I could say anything a table opened up behind us and the server said she would seat them there. I have NEVER had that happen to me in a restaurant. To add insult to injury, the couple kept talking out loud about us, as if we had stolen their table. I chose not to ask for a manager and kept my cool. The burgers were not that good-we could have had better at Five Guys. After we left the store, I called and spoke to a manager, Marissa. She explained that I did follow normal protocol, but since it was a Friday night it was busier and there can be a wait for a table and there must have been some miscommunication. She also said that there should have been a hostess near the register. I never saw her. We will never return here to eat. I may still buy a couple of things from the grocery, but really not worth the time/drive for a handful of items. Especially, when I can get friendlier customer service and not-so-snooty clientele at other nearby specialty grocery stores.

Just got back from my first visit to a Standard Market. The selection is great and the food is all fresh-looking. There is a huge variety of foods, unusual cheeses, candies and pastries to choose from. This place is like Trader Joes and Whole Foods rolled into one and put on steroids. The only down side is the price. Everything seems to be very high-priced. Asparagus was twice what the going price for springtime asparagus is at other markets; the price of cheese was through the roof, though there were a lot of specialty cheeses that would be hard or impossible to find elsewhere (some were priced at more than $32/pound); apples were beautiful, but, again, the price is far above normal supermarket pricing. the gourmet goods were plentiful, but at $10 for a small jar of marinated artichoke hearts, I will have to spend my money elsewhere. We visited the restaurant area only to find a basic hamburger (no table service) ranging from $9-14....I predict that Standard Market will do OK in Naperville where it seems that there are lots of people who dont do (or perhaps dont need to do) comparison shopping. Maybe Im a little too frugal with my hard-earned cash, but my first visit will probably be my last. There are too many reasonably-priced stores in the area to consider over-paying for groceries. Standard Market is a nice place to visit, its clean and certainly has variety, but at a price.

I dont know what the earlier posts are talking about. If you want crap....go to Aldi. The prices ARE competitive, just because they do carry higher end items doesnt mean there are no regular priced items. But people are blinded by the expensive stuff. But as prices go they blow Whole Foods out of the water, especially when we are talking about seafood or the butcher shop. They are officially "soft" opened and thats for working out the kinks. I will be shopping there. But I do feel that as a flag ship store they will adjusting some things in the future. The fact that there are few shelves and you cannot get all your grocery needs...might need tweeking. When I go shopping I want to buy cereal along with the milk and the smoked trout and NOT have to go to another store. The cash only policy is ludicrous. They can put your cash on a gift card. But thats just stupid. Provide more grocery staples and accept cash and you got a winner. Oh, the in-store cafe has very good prices and high quality food.

While pricey its one of the few places you are going to find a lot of specialty items. Finding grass fed beef or wild Alaskan Salmon is pretty much restricted to Standard Market and/or Whole Foods. I will say the reason they got 4/5 instead of 5/5 is we had looking at dragonfruit at Caputos and Marianos and by far the worst looking was at Standard Market. It was starting to really show its age and for a place that seems to pride itself on the best of the best it looks like something that was 2 weeks past prime and wasnt going anywhere. We were very happy we had purchased it at Marianos earlier in the day. Beyond that the grass fed rib eye was amazing. I purchased a piece of wild caught Alaskan King Salmon for dinner tonight and expect it to be the same, if not better, especially at $29.99/lb which was on sale $12 off per lb, so regularly $41.99/lb.. My piece of fish would had cost $50 regular price.. So Im expecting perfection tonight!

MY NEW DAILY MARKET!!! [or every few days :)]Staff was very friendly and helpful. Loved the cafe...burgers top notch. Loved the sale on the Porterhouse when they were $7.99 per pound. This place follows what is in season or what has abundance of market supply to give you high quality and pass savings on to you. So keep a look out or ask what is in season. The ideal shopper is one who appreciates fresh food, store a couple of days at home and stop back in to get the next couple of days. This way you have more room in your fridge and you eat healthier because the freshness tastes so much better that what you get at other stores that claim fresh. So far I have tried and enjoyed 4 out of 7 daily prepared meals and would recommend them. Then the sushi...yummy. The sushi chef made me one to order too. Looking forward to your new restuarant across the street to open!!!! ----Happy Customer in Downers Grove
