Theres lot of choices around Vernon Hills. Five guys, Portillos, Smash Burger, Tom & Eddies, Red Robins, etc. I had to somewhat compare when I do burger shopping with my wife. Our usual go to place is Portillos or Wendys due to burger quality for price we pay. Sometimes we do get spoil and spend $10 more to get Smash or Five guys. My wife says she likes the freshness of the burger from five guys, but to me they takes too long to cook and play around food too much while they cook our burger. I like the business of the Portillos where always packed with customers and you see employees have no time for joke to play around. Price for five guys usually go over $20 for two burgers and a fries. Near $30 for five minute enjoyment. It really does hurt my wallet for the freshness my wife always mention. The taste... To me it isnt too bad, but it had to with the cook who seasons the meat or not. To be honest, I dont really like the taste of the burger here at five guys, but maybe its just me. If you like to spend extra bucks for a little freshness then I guess five guys wont be a bad choice, but wait time is much longer than other joint which can be good and bad depends on you.

Honestly I dont know how they expect to compete in Chicagoland; the burgers are no better than you can get at any mom-n-pop burger joint around, like Nekkos up the street, and the price is REALLY high for what you get. The fries are cooked in peanut oil which makes them taste strange; Portillos up the street has way better fries. After paying over $11 for a double cheeseburger and a drink, I wont go back. On a side note, their naming conventions are clearly from out of town (they call a double just a burger, for example) and all their "best burgers ever" self glorifying signs they have hanging all over are from every city in the country EXCEPT Chicago. Honestly - skip it, go anywhere else.

My first experience at Five Guys and what a let down. We ordered online, collected our order with no hassle, the staff were friendly. We ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, 2 bacon and cheese burgers, regular fries and 2 milkshakes. The only edible food was the fries, the burgers and grilled cheese had a chemical taste to them as though the grill had been cleaned but not rinsed properly. The one milkshake (Oreo) also had the same chemical taste. We threw the food away and both of us have an upset stomach today. I certainly would not risk eating here again if this is the kind of food quality that is served. Very disappointing.

At this location (specifically) went for a quick burger. The staff interaction was fine but when I received my burger there was a large piece of dust or ball of hair on it. I dont know why they did that and Im not even sure it was on purpose but I will not go back. I go to different locations if I want to go to one of these restaurants. I suggest you avoid this location as well as I suspect they dont focus on health codes very well.

Five Guys is a decent burger place. The fries are pretty great, and they give you a ton of them, even if you get the smallest size. The actual burger is better than anything you could get from your average fast food place, but nothing outstanding. It is a little over priced, especially if you want anything additional on your burger.

Amaaaaaazing fries...loved the girl who took our order - she understood that we were vegetarian and helped us order...she suggested we get cheese sandwiches instead of the veggie burger that would get grilled on the same grill as all the meat patties...
