Pros: The place has a lovely atmosphere. The layout accommodates couples who want an intimate dinner and also groups of friends who want to get together for cocktails and munch on appetizers. Theres a pleasant bustling and energy to the place when it is full. Cons: The food was not very appetizing. The french onion soup was way too sweet such that you didnt get any of the broth-y taste of the beef stock. It was just plain sugary. Next was the steak frites classique (their basic steak frites). The steak was drowned in maitre d butter, making it soggy and limp like a wet hand towel. The worst part was the frites. They were sliced in some petal shape and then flattened. Some were soggy while others were over-cooked and crunchy. You dont get any *oomph* of a potato taste. They were veritable potato chips. Conclusion: I would possibly go back for cocktails and appetizers (their mussels looked delicious), but I would definitely not order their steak frites again, which is a shame since it is a bistro-style restaurant.

Overall I would rate Mon Ami Gabi as Okay. I waited at the small bar for my friend to arrive and there were 2 disinterested barmen chatting with other patrons. One eventually tossed a bar menu at me. Not a good first impression. When my friend arrived I checked in with the hostess and they couldnt find my Open Table reservation, They had used my reservation for another party but had space anyway. I liked the decor although it was a little too cramped for my liking. It was pretty much full but service was quick. The menu and wine lists had pretty decent choices and we both opted for one of the Steak Frites specialties and a house salad. The salads were tasty but small. The steaks were tasty but thin and a little mushy, almost greasy..The Frites were tasty too but getting cold when the plates arrived. Prices were reasonable for what the meal COULD have been. Id probably go back and give it another try but would hesitate to recommend Mon Ami Gabi.

Mon Ami Gabi is a quaint french style bistro located in the Oak Brook Shopping Center. The servious is excellent and the food exquisite. I enjoy their drink menu and wine selection. The wine steward was helpful in pairing wines with our meal. We started out with the Escargout and french onion soup. Both were done to perfection. We then had the Steak Frites for our main entree. This is a tender cut of steak served with hand cut frites. There are several options for sauce to accompany the steak. I opted for the classic bernaise sauce and I was not disappointed. Romantice setting perfect for celebrating special occasions or just enjoying a night out.

What a shame that the executive chef has destroyed the essence of pommes frites! They are not crisp or adding delicate salty flavor to anything! I watched platefuls go to the garbage. These are nasty, soggy, rejects even McDonalds up the street would be embarrassed to serve. The meat quality is acceptable. Then, when you get to desert, the overpowering lemon added to the Crème brûlée destroyed the experience. So much potential destroyed by total fails in basic French cuisine. Scrap your executive chef for tradition and it might be worthy, otherwise spend your money on a better bistro experience.

Popped in for some French onion soup and had a beer as well. Limited but well chosen beer selection went nicely with the tasty soup, and the complimentary loaf of warm bread and butter was both welcome and delicious. Ordered another bowl of the soup to take home to my wife, and while the experience isnt quite the same as eating it there, they do a nice job with an inherent challenge: French onion soup to go. Will be back sometime for a full dinner, and a possible upgrade to 5 stats.

I felt the food was missing love, the classic steak frites and bordelaise both were cooked proper , but the frites were like the the ones from the beginning of the night dry, cold and inedible! When you pay $ 24.00 for this everything on that plate better be good! Escargot needed seasoning, not just garlic and parsley, and no I am not a smoker, the mustard jam on the pate over powered dish. Maybe chef was off that night, another disappointing restaurant in the suburbs.

The prices are a bit high for some their sides, and the service quality is average mid range restaurant. However their signature items were well executed and tasty (French Onion Soup and Steak frites). The french onion was VERY sweet, so not for everyone, but the cheese is exceptional. The fries are just average and must be eaten right away as they are nasty when cold. The steak was very tender and tasty, but even the large one was not filling at all.

The plat du jour and the soupe du jour are always excellent. The waiter/waitresss service is decent. Just dont ask your waiter to recommend wine pairing. They are not professionally trained and may not have a clue. My experience: The waiter asked if Id like a glass of wine. I asked whats available for pairing with my arctic char (a fatty fish). My waiter recommended rosé or pinot blanc. (FYI, a chardonnay works much better with arctic char.)

I was taken here for my birthday and was blown away. The mussles were pretty good but what really struck me was the steak. Its not a typical thick american steak. Its very thin and relies heavily on the sauce thats covering the meat to convey flavor. You can choose from eight different sauces and I chose the peppercorn. Perfect in my opinion. You will spend quite a bit here but the flavors are worth every dime. Enjoy a taste of France.

Everything is delicious. An upscale lunch or dinner that is priced from $10 to $25. Attached are pictures of the escargot cooked in a rich garlic butter house sauce, creme brulee, salmon hash brown benedict, croque monsieur and a cappucino. The waiters bring a loaf of warm crusty bread and butter to each table. Lovely atmosphere.

Terrible out of most items. We come here very often and it is always been constantly above average, today however was like we were at a low rated over priced cafe. Extremely disappointed specially since this was one place we could relay on to be consistent. I guess they too went the way of the dodo bird

The atmosphere is upscale, very good selection of wines, and a lot of french food. The burger off of the lunch menu is meh, and the steak is pretty good. I do really like the french onion soup, though. I do not eat seafood, so I can not judge that portion, but Im told that its pretty good.

The food was not work the steep prices and not by any stretch French. Moreover, the staff was unfriendly and unhelpful. The atmosphere was elegant and intriguing, but not worth the 20 bucks for the small platter of muscles.

My wife and I loved it here. The atmosphere was romantic, the food was fresh and delicious. Our servers and everyone for that matter there was terrific, friendly and helpful. I will come back here without a doubt.
