I wish there was 0 / 5 star ranking. Was told/refer to by a friend that they heard this is "Dog Friendly" and be a great place to go out to eat. NOT TRUE!!! Instead of a having a spot just for people who brought their pets, they will put you 5 feet away from people trying to enjoy a meal without animals. Let alone throw nasty comments out about pets and my wife. I wish I could rename this place "Rich Snob" Landing Restaurant I dont even know where to begin.... 1) Room Temperature Bottled Water (Instead of water in glass with ice) 2) Took forever (approx. 15 minutes for an order to be taken) 3) Wrong order given to you, food served at room temperature 4) Never asked if the food was okay. Room temperature shrimp and uncooked peas 5) Took my food away without even asking if I was done or wanting to take home the rest. Same thing with my wifes order 6) Random people walking up to our dog and trying to pet her. Not the best idea for people to do. 7) Other people throwing rude comments out to you (forcing us to leave without even enjoying dinner). If you sit outside in the "dog dining" area then expect a dog to be there. I didnt appreciate comments being thrown out that my wife doesnt know how to handle a dog? My wifes clothing looks cheap??? Im suprised those people can afford to eat here, look at them??? The best, oh great another dog. THANK YOU FOR COMPLETELY RUINING MY WIFES BIRTHDAY. She heard you. She literally got up, left crying and barely took 2 bites of food. On top of it, you ruined my evening as well. Thats why this needs to be renamed "Rich Snob" Landing Restaurant. 8) Dog friendly??? (not even close) waiters running into your dog, "snobby rich people" bringing barking dogs who disrupt you and your well behaved dog and then have the nerve to point fingers that my little fufu is scared. 9) First time I was in a restaurant an actually wanted to get up and leave. Never again will I return here. Total joke with the overpriced/uncooked/rudeness/comments. I will make sure to spread the word on such HORRIBLE service I received and a birthday ruined.

We first started going there when they first opened and it was a great place to eat, the food was excellent and so was the service. But over the years, both have declined severely. In the old days they made their own bread and butter on site and it was excellent. They stopped doing this a long time ago. They had the best bread and butter I ever tasted and sadly it went away. Several years ago they had a lunch special of roast beef that was incredible but they only served it in the summer, then that went away too. They call it "casual dining" now but thats not true. Try going there wearing blue jeans for lunch or dinner and see how you are treated. The people in the suits and dresses get all the attention, those of us wearing jeans and shirts have a hard time getting a waiter or waitress to pay attention to us and thats a fact based on my last three experiences. The help there is pretentious and arrogant and I will not put up with it when I am paying the same kind of money for food and service that the suits and dresses are wearing. They need to be reminded that this is redneck Lockport and not the 95th floor of the Hancock building.

I have to say Im really biased about this place. It is in a historic building with great decor. Old and new at the same time. The people are great. Drop in a couple of times and youll be a regular too. I have to appreciate a place that has a nice wine selection with servers who are up on it. The bar is casual and friendly. You can be comfortable bringing a date or group in for a little more formal celebration. Several rooms for banquets and receptions too. Alfresco right out front with a terrific view up the historic mall. Great place for a Sunday brunch. Public Landing also has a cool online club. No membership fees to get special offers via email and they have some spectacular wine tasting dinners and other special events. If you dont live in the area Public Landing is a notable holiday and special occasion destination restaurant. Leave yourself time to explore some of the historic places within walking distance. Im thinking it is about time to head over for a spot of wine and an appetizer. See you there.

Not good. Prices ridiculously out of line. Our party ordered a strip steak, a filet mignon, and crab cakes. Both steaks were thin, dry, and flavorless. Not a drop of moisture in either one or on the plate - like they squeezed them dry before serving. The peppercorn crust was forgotten on one steak. The mushrooms were dry and rubbery, just like the steaks, as if theyd been left under a heat lamp all day to shrivel up. I cannot stress enough, how dry our plates of food were. The crab cakes were mushy and bland. The sweet potato mash and the garlic mash both were forgettable, and tasted like they could have come from a packet. For $35 plates, this is a cruel joke. We also had a big issue with very loud knocking on the floor above the restaurant. Very loud and distracting. For this price point, your food and ambiance should both be quality. Too bad, as its a nice looking space. Service was fine.

My wife and i tried this reasturant for dinner tonight (01.26.10). We were a little apprehensive due to the other reviews, but it was close, and a new experience. Started with the calamari and shrimp cocktail, and we were presently suprised, very fresh, and the sauces complementing them were just as awesome! My wife had the potato crusted talipia, and i had the lobster ravoli, followed up by the peach cobbler (awesome) and let me say, neither dish nor the desert was a dissapointment. Large portions, fresh and well prepaired, we had a great time, staff was very friendly and helpful, and was also greeted, and visited by the manager, which was a nice touch. Great Experience!

We have only dined here once, but will come back again. The atmosphere was very classy and unique for this area. The service was out of this world, food amazing. The manager, Dan, came to our table 3 times - which never happens anymore. I have already told many people about this restaurant. I cannot wait for the weather to turn warm because they have outdoor seating as well. I highly recommend this restaurant. Note: most of the diners were age 50+ and we did not see any younger children here - so it seems to be an older crowd that dines here.

Took the family here for Thanksgiving, was a great experience. They have a buffet style dinner, all you can eat for $35. The food is very good they have all the family favorites mash potato, sweet potato, turkey, prime rib, all kinds of desserts and a full range of wine and beer. A great place for a large party we went with 15 people and had no trouble making a reservations and the place is not to noise, was able to have a conversation 3 people way on the table.

Before writing this 5 star recommendation after several wonderful dining experiences at the Public Landing Restaurant, I read all previous reviews and honestly do not understand the three negative ones. They must have been referring to another restaurant! What is there not to love about this premier American Restaurant in the historic Gaylord Building which also features a Museum? The food, décor, service, and cost deserve nothing less than the highest ratings!
