Located right near St Raymond Cathedral, we drove passed this place over a hundred times never noticing it. I decided to take the family there on an impulse after googling good places to eat. The parking lot tested our cars suspension with its rough, pothole filled part gravel, part asphalt surface. Walking through the door we were bombarded with the sounds of conversations. The dining room is small, with maybe a dozen tables. There is no greeters station, just the dining tables, a double door leading to the bar next door (which is also where the bathrooms are located) and a hall leading to the kitchen area. The proprietor, an elderly woman with a very friendly smile let us choose from the open tables. Our server was at our table quickly with menus and was attentive throughout the whole dining experience. Our soft drinks arrived in cans, rather than from a fountain machine. The menu was large enough to provide a variety without overwhelming you with options. Each of us got different sandwiches, all of which came with a really good pasta salad and outstanding soups. I and my daughter had the beef barley, my wife had the chicken noodle. Both types of soup were wonderful! My daughter had the muffuletta sandwich (which she loved), my son had a kids grilled cheese sandwich (which he liked, but hes picky), my wife had a chicken sandwich whos name escapes me (she loved it), and I had a Reuben, hold the sauerkraut. It was perfection! The sourdough bread was butter and toasted just right. All dishes also came with homemade fries that were nice and crispy. Both the server and proprietor were very attentive and conversational. The simple decor, friendly staff and general atmosphere made for a very pleasant evening. The only word of caution: They do not take credit cards, cash only. So make sure you bring some cash.

We have eaten there several times and have always enjoyed it, however today we ordered take out and when we received our order was very disappointed. I ordered 1 quart of dumpling soup, which was 1 quart of chicken stock with about 1/8 cup of actual food, which is generous on my estimation. When I called to inform them of this issue, Mrs Thayer took the phone away from the wait staff and informed me that she gave me bread and cracker of which she did not charge me and there was nothing she was doing about my order. First I want to say, while that was nice I did not ask to not pay for what I had ordered. Nor would I think that due to the fact she gave me 2 rolls and 6 crackers that entitled her to sell me 1 quart of chicken stock at the cost of $7.00. When I told her that we would not be back, she stated that I needed to do what I needed to do. So this re peat customer and her very large family will not be back to Thayer Brothers!

This is cash only, old school establishment. Absolutely the best food, I havent had everything but what I have had over the years is great. They have lovely servers and do to go orders as well. You get a lot of food for your money and it is worth going out of your way to get. Support small local businesses!

Service was good, server was helpful and outgoing. My tacos were good but difficult to pick up. Well go back to try other daily specials. ie stuffed peppers pm Thursday and cabbage rolls on Monday. Well also try and save room for dessert.

We have never had a bad meal at Thayer Bros. The entire staff is friendly. Mrs. Thayer is a sweetheart, and does her own cooking. She makes a point to stop and talk at all the tables. Best little hole in the wall restaurant in town.

Not sure why there arent more reviews on here. It was a nice, small joint with a local friendly feel and real home cooking. Burger was delicious, soup was amazing and Ive got no complaints
