This place is a real hidden gem. I was craving for falafel and i googled the closest place there is. In waukegan, you rarely see a 5 star or even 4 star food places. Knowing this neighborhood, looking for a 5 star rating restaurant is like looking for a single diamond in a black sand beach. I couldnt believe my eyes when i looked at the google results. I mean cmon this place got a solid and consistent 5 stars! In waukegan!? You gotta be kidding me! I was really skeptical so i decided to try this place out. I am still here paying for my bill as im writing this review. Im not gonna say that this place is very good because this place is EXCELLENT. Staff is very nice, the whole place is very clean, overall this place is well organized. Think about it, where can you find a business establishment that lasted this long (they opened 2012 i believe) and still holds a consistent 5 star rating from its customers? After my girlfriend and i finished our meal, the owner gave us two complimentary baklava cakes. Im telling you man these owners are the living proof of excellent customer service.

Simply the best food for the best price within an hour, maybe within the state. No joke. The family always tries to stop by whenever were in the area. Even if people in your party dont like Middle Eastern food, they have as big a Chicago style menu as every Chicago style joint youve been to. Needless to say though, the Chicago menu is not worth skipping out on this authentic and tradition-rich cuisine. There is no excuse for any review less than 5 stars. Everyone who has is either spoiled or under the delusion that 5 stars are reserved for the meal of their dreams...that could not possibly exist. If it did exist, they would serve it here at Papa Marcos. Oh, and every time we come in, they foist an unbelievable amount of extra food on our table. They are simply the most friendly and delicious option for miles. Do yourself a favor and discover this gem!

Every time I visit Papa Marcos I receive outstanding customer service. EVERY SINGLE TIME. The owner is welcoming and delightful as soon as you walk in. The place is squeaky clean (a must) so I have no doubt the kitchen is as well. I always get the chicken and beef sherma (he splits it in half for me rather than just getting the chicken or beef). I literally leave feeling better. The neighborhood can sometimes be a bit of a downer but he totally changes that feeling after you leave satisfied. I really hope nothing happens that this place closes because Ive finally found a place where they believe in superior, charming customer service, cleanliness, and affordable pricing! A true GEM!

This place is pure gold! The owner Michel pours passion and love into this restaurant, and it shows. Whenever I come in to Papa Marcos Im immediately greeted with a big smile and a reminder that me and my company are to to make ourselves feel right at home. The food is always great. You can tell that the cooks take pride and joy in what they are serving up. Ive never left here feeling hungry but also never felt Id broken the bank either. I would recommend Papa Marcos to anyone whos looking for a reasonably priced and delicious meal, served up with a smile. Ps. The falafel is a must.

Every time I leave there I feel like Ive been completely spoiled! The owner is so generous to his customers and the food is absolutely amazing! Best Beef Shawarma Ive ever tasted and the Hummus is like buttah!! Im not a rice person, Im a potato person, and I do everything I can to not order rice, but I would choose their rice over a potato any day! Since finding Papa Marcos eight months ago we have returned weekly...and it takes us 20 minutes to get there! Support this amazing local business, you wont be sorry!

My wife, co-worker, and I went in to try this place today after reading about it placing in the yelp top 100 for the nation. We were not disappointed! Very friendly atmosphere and staff and the food was absolutely amazing. The prices were great, we each ordered a meal, 2 of us had drinks and one water, and 2 appetizers to share at the table and the cost came out to about $10 a person. Each of us agreed we will be coming back again and again and we cant wait! Do yourself a favor and try this place out!

The place didnt appear to be this amazing food joint on the outside but looks are definitely deceiving. Clean, wonderful food, the host was amazing and well mannered. The food came out hot, freash, and quick! Cheap food!!! Absolutely the best place to try Mediterranean food!!! A must go!! If your in the area you must take time and go here. Try the lamb! I wish i could give more stars it was that great. Ill go here everytime im in town!

Ive lived in the Waukegan area for a little over 6 months and did not know Papa Marcos existed. Had I known of its existence prior than today when I stumbled upon it, I would have become a regular patron of this establishment a lot sooner than I now plan be. Owner Michael was warm and inviting to all customers, including a newbie as myself. The Falafal and lamb shawarma were quite delicious. I look forward to my many visits to come.

My wife and I were in the area and stopped in for lunch. Marlene the owner greated us and immediately made us feel welcome. We are vegetarians so we had couple questions which she answered with ease and provide a couple suggestions on specials for cost savings. The food was EXCELLENT! The owner makes the grape seed wraps by hand and was chatting with us making sure we were happy while she cleaned tables. We will definitely be back.

Just fantastic! The owner treated us like family, gave us free samples of stuff (which we then bought because it was great), and chatted us up about his service in the armed forces. Food was great, and the hospitality was even better. Oh, and the hot sauce is freaking amazing! Im not usually big on hot sauces but this stuff was so good that Im going to attempt to fly some back home with us! Hope we get to go again this trip!

Awesome menu, great selection of Middle Eastern and American style food. We had the vegetarian plate, chicken and gyro plate, and a side order of the Bourak. The meat was supposed and seasoned to perfection. Smallish dinning room but dont let that deter you from eating in. They also offer delivery for those that want to stay at home. If you get a chance to meet the owner hes a super nice guy.

Absolutely amazing! Over the course of the time we have been here we have tried many places in the area and this was by far the best! Fast and friendly service, great food, and dont be fooled by the hole-in-the-wall look... we tried everything on the appetizer list, everything was great! Dolma was perfect and hand rolled by the owner. Baklava is some of the bests Ive had!

Papa Marcos has literally the best customer service I have ever experienced. The owner goes above and beyond to make his customers comfortable and happy. Not to mention the food is incredible. Everything is fresh and tasty. The Baba Ghanouj and falafel wraps are unreal. If you are in Lake County, you MUST try Papa Marcos. You will not be disappointed!
