My son recently moved to the Ukrainian Village which is located just west of the Chicago Loop. I make excuses to visit my son (laundry, home made cookies, its my Birthday, whatever) but, its mostly to experience the culture of Ukrainian Village. So, its a Sunday AM and my hubby & I decide to visit our 2 boys in Chicago, I think I was bringing son #1 a most needed vacuum cleaner. After delivering the vacuum, its time for Brunch! We started walking east on Chicago Ave and came upon West Town Bakery & Diner. OMG! Its like entering the set of Happy Days (the sitcom) but, its real and its 2014. Very casual atmosphere, seat yourself...ok and get ready to experience a menu filled with 1950 favs but with a 21st Century epicurean twist. My son ordered the Morning Poutine, a bowl filled with french fries covered in meat and cheese. Usually #1 son eats super fast but, this Poutine was so large, it slowed him down. He did finish the entire Poutine, and he found it to be very gratifying. I tried the Short Rib Eggs Benedict. WOW! This is a dish you would never make for yourself at home due to all the work & ingredients, but it was divine! #2 son ordered the chicken and waffles, hubby had the regular Eggs Benedict and there were no left overs today! Waiting to pay our bill, I sauntered over to the Bakery counter and ordered some cupcakes (marvelous) and macaroons (french cookies). We have been to Paris & have indulged in Paris macaroons and West Town Bakery delivers the crisp, melt in your mouth cream macaroon the same as Paris. Great food, great $s! Cant wait to find another excuse to visit my 2 sons & experience West Town for another exceptional Brunch.

I know people go sort of bananas for this place, but I dont get it. Never really understood it with Bleeding Heart, either, if Im to be honest. Stopped in late at night after dinner for some baked goods and were debating buying a couple of doughnuts for the morning. The clerk assured us they were just baked and would be great in the morning. But neither my wife nor I enjoyed the doughnuts we had the next morning -- kind of tasteless, way too heavy and definitely a bit stale. I know the cake balls receive a lot of attention here, but I still think cake balls, in general, are a dumb idea, so that end of the business isnt about to do it for me.

Quaint spot. Rarely do I go for a diner to breakfast and I donwit finish my entire plate but I ate less than half the food served to me. Not because it was large portions but the food was just ok. I ordered the Chicago stockyard omlette, while I love pork belly, having chunks of belly fat mixed into an omlette is a bad combo. The wife had the chilaquiles, that is her go to brunch everywhere, she says better than average. But she tries to be too nice, the chips were all soggy and none were crunchy. I doubt if I would come back here again. Too many other diners in Chicago to come to an average place.

My favorite breakfast spot in the city. Dosants are the most incredible baked good. Their blue plate special keep a regular coming back, as well as their ability to knock breakfast essentials out of the park. (I.e. biscuits and gravy and bagels and locks). They have a farm on the roof of the restaurant, and have an awesome open bakery. Pay their weight staff liveable wage and full benefits, and you can tell. Coffee is never yearned for and everyone has been friendly on every visit. After about 15 visits Ive never had a bad experience.

Westend Bakery (BHB) is located in the Ukraine Village area, a young vibrant location filled with all sorts of energy. The owners have capitalized on this energy and have demonstrated this excitement through their products, always coming out with additional items and concepts, I can only say you must visit this venue to experience the vast array of goodies, too many to actually pick a favorite. Keep up the great work in continuing your quest for bring the vibe to the neighborhood. Miles

I am writing my review on the 6 cupcakes bought from this place. Not a fan at all. The cupcakes were dry and not moist. Charging a bit over 3 bucks a cupcake for ones that taste worse then the ones we buy at Dominicks is ridiculous. I am sorry for the harshness, but I was so excited when we got these 6 and I took no more then two small bites out of each of them hoping the next one would have a bit of moistness. Very Disappointed. I will stick with some of the other ones thanks

CAKE BALLS! Aw yeah, they have some AH-MAZE-ING balls here. My favorite flavor is french toast, but you cant go wrong with any of the cake balls. They are sure a crowd pleaser for parties. I enjoy their sweet potato cinnamon roll and smores brownie also! All good stuff and pretty reasonable. Tip: They always have specials and on Fridays, Cake Balls are buy 1 dozen, get the other dozen free! Check their site for more daily specials.

You have stop by here since it is on great walking distance from Damen and Chicago in West Town, you should see the homemade donuts and snack to choose. I love those original glaze donuts, it is a must have to eat! People are friendly, they are more down to earth that would just welcome you to the table and chatting with you to give you recommendation. They are AMAZING!!

Very laid back. We were greeted right away and the waitresses were quick with getting is water. After ordering, food was out within 5-10minutes. Their breakfast menu is delicious along with their baked good. I ordered the croissant sandwich with hash browns and was surprised at the size of the sandwich - as big as an adult hand. I will definitely return to this restaurant.

This is one of my favorite spots. Great food, service, and environment for friends, family, and connections. Always where I bring out of town guests... Always the meal they remember most. Update - they removed my favorite ditches. All of them so... I went afterwards and found THAT was the magic. Updating with a downgrade - 5 to 3. Service is still stellar however.

The treats here are sensational plus they have great coffee! I love the variety from cake balls to pastries - my favorites are the macaroons. The servers are friendly and give great suggestions. You can also check out a funky cake creation in their front viewing room. For the cafe half, it can get a little noisy, but their breakfast dishes are creative.

West Town & Diner is the best place in West Town! Very friendly staff! Great variety of vegan bake goods. Josh is amazing he is super friendly and very helpful with explaining vegan and nonvegan bake goods. I am not vegan but my co-worker is and this place is my go to from now on. Cake balls are amazing!!!

Churro cupcakes? Donut sandwiches? And now, liquor drinks?? Living so close to Bleeding Heart Bakery is so, so dangerous. I love everything they do. I would recommend everything on the menu, ESPECIALLY the donut breakfast sandwich and the hibiscus pancakes. You will never eat anything else for breakfast.
