Some places have poor customer service. The service here is belligerent. The guy behind the counter who said he wasnt the owner (who actually was) was very rude and almost abusive. What happened to this place? It used to be friendly, a bright spot in the neighborhood. The breakfast sandwich I had was good, but I will not go back. It is the only place Ive left feeling degraded. And I noticed the owner treated his workers the same way. They seemed to be surviving despite the oppressive atmosphere. If you live in north Evanston and think this place is the only option, look around: youve got Tags and Foodstuffs down the street, Whole Foods on Greenbay, and Hewn a few miles away. Go there instead.

This bread is not only delicious, it lasts longer than most bread without drying out. It has a moist sweetness that comes from natural ingredients, unlike bread that is kept soft on the grocery store shelves with chemistry. Theres also a nice vibe, including a generous free sample policy: they give you a free slice big enough to sate the hunger of anyone whose stomach started churning when they opened the door and smelled all of those loaves. You can go healthy (whole wheat, low carb, etc.) or indulge in a round bread twirled with either Asiago cheese or cinnamon sugar, They also have cookies, tea breads, quiches a little sandwich shop on the side.

Always friendly with free samples and great selection of breads. Apple Scrapple and Asiago Cheese bread are our favorites. Many of these stores have closed so this is one of the few that are still around. I bring Apple Scrapple to work when it is my turn for treats and my co-workers cant wait until it is my turn as it is often the highlight of the selections on that day. The scones are huge and tasty and they serve sandwiches and all kinds of bread. After school, they are flooded with kids passing by for a treat or sample.

I went to order a salad to go with the bread I was going to buy. The girls working had no idea how to make it, started it, set it aside with the lid open and prepared the food for other people, right over the open container. About 10 minutes later I was informed they didnt have an ingredient. I told them I was no longer interested and left, no salad, no bread. During my wait I noticed how disgusting the store was. It didnt look like the floor had been mopped in a year and everything was covered in filth. I will never return.

This is a great community spot. The owner is friendly and generous to those in the community, offering free slices of bread and cookies as samples to those who come in. The sandwiches are delicious... The bread scrumptious... If you are looking for a great loaf of bread, or fabulous cookies, pies, scones and more this is the place. If you just need to pop in for lunch to grab a quick sandwich to go, or even eat it at a mini-cafe, stop at Great Harvest on Central Street....

Stopped in for the first time today. Bought a bread loaf (the multi-grain one), also stayed for a sandwich. Made a grilled cheese with the bread. Texture, taste, A-quality stuff. Had the sponginess of good homemade bread. Not too soft, not tough either. As long as this remains reasonably within driving distance, I see no reason to ever get my bread elsewhere. Owner is super friendly, too. Feels like a mom and pop kind of place.

MMmmmmmm the smells! Nothing better then the smell of fresh baked bread. These folks actually do their own milling!!! You simply cannot get fresher than that. And the taste is incredible. Id give 5 stars except they dont carry all of the bake goods I like, so I have to go to two bakeries, but for what they carry they cannot be beat in my opinion.

Love the bread. . . soft and chewy, especially the Dakota, Apple Scrapple, Asiago pesto. . .Love the scones, especially the chocolate chip and cherry almond. Dont love the owner who is a bit pompous and not especially community oriented. Doesnt make customers feel appreciated.

Absolutely amazing sandwiches!!! We were in town for work and stopped by there for a quick bit to eat yesterday. The sandwiches were so good we went back again today for round 2! Everyone working was super friendly and helpful!

Most of the time the scones are stale, even in the morning. The bread is also not great either. The main issue is the owner, almost everytime I have been in there he is rude and creepy. Not a family friendly place.

Great Harvests in general provide delicious fresh bread, and this location is no exception. Friendly staff and owner help make that franchise name feel like the welcoming locally owned business that it truly is.

The good: The scones are to die for. The bad: The managers rude attitude towards costumers. His sense of entitlement and arrogance put a bad taste in their products. Never going back

Really good bread, a wide variety of options, and an environment of free sampling really make this bakery a great place to pick up some bread or anything else they offer.
