The food is expensive for the portion size. The coffee isnt anything extraordinary. The internet is unreliable. The only pro is the sustainability of the food options. This is my HUGE issue with this place. On Friday 8/12/2016, Chicago experienced heavy rains that overwhelmed the drainage system in the streets and apparently the drainage system in the restaurant. The staff initially said they were going to close the kitchen momentarily and to get our food orders in ASAP. About 2 minutes later, one of the "owners" came into the dinning room (which is separated by a massive hallway from the kitchen) and told everyone in the dining room to leave because of the flooding (which wasnt even in the dining room at this point). Totally understandable, considering this is sewage water. HOWEVER, a major issue occurred as a few people next to me tried to get a refund for there food and coffee orders that were not yet honored. The "owner" didnt address them at all and sent them straight out the door. Most importantly, it was still pouring outside. This was the kind of rain that definitely impairs vision while driving and damages property if walking. I approached this owner, already off-put by his refusal to address the refund issue with previous customers and inquired why I had to leave the dining room and go out into torrential rains if I understood the risks associated with staying in the dining room while waiting for the storm to pass. I mean honestly, I along with several other people had a laptop and notebook that I couldnt afford to get wet. All he responded with was, "Its sewage water, you have to leave." And that was it. He was rude and off-put that I suggested he be kind enough to allow us to stand there for 15 minutes while the storm passed. I turned to leave without saying another word, and he YELLED at me as I was exiting "Im SORRY that bothers you." As if my request was something ridiculous. The people standing next to me that heard the conversation were shocked at his rudeness. They along with myself will not consider eating here again. I discourage everyone from supporting this facility.

Terrible service, food was awful. Listen, I love food and I never say food is terrible. But this took the cake (no pun intended). When you put onions on pancakes as a menu item you know its not going to be good but I wanted to try something diffferent...I should have known better. We went there for breakfast before the Bears game and I was with my friends and young kids. No one liked the food. They put bourbon in their pancake syrup. To be fair, it does say it on the menu but when they brought it out it was not labeled and one of the kids had it on their pancakes. They need to label it! At the end of the day, this was by far the worst food Ive ever had. PS...I was here last year and I heard they had new management now. Bring back or consult with the old management.. LOL

I love this place! This is my first time going here, and I was very pleased with my experience. The atmosphere is aesthetically pleasing; from their various utilization of wood, colors and the choice of music and the volume. They execute it well despite having to share some of the same with another company. The coffee and food were delicious! I had a BLT with a side of potatoes. There was a certain spice that I couldnt place in the potatoes, but it added a very delicious, yet different flavor. The BLT had heirloom tomatoes that were locally grown, and they were seriously the best tomatoes I have ever had in my life. I will certainly recommend Spoke & Bird to others :) and whenever I am in the South Loop, I will be sure to stop by again!

The cafe offers a great experience for guests of many occasions. The pricing is fair, given the moderate portions, but is well worth it when the quality of the food is considered. The food is exceptional and showcases the great local taste of the midwest, as most of their ingredients are sourced locally (even the beer!). The staff is friendly and the space is wonderful. Ive gone here in the past to get work done on my laptop in their dining room/coffee shop space, but Ive been enjoying the patio as of recently. This is a great place to get work done, to catch a meal with friends, or sip on few rounds of drinks in the evening on the patio. I highly recommend a visit to the Spoke and Bird.

Disappointed the kitchen cannot handle a busy day. There was a east egg hunt next door at the park so the were busy. Most establishments would die to have such a rush of customers but this place is not staffed for it. Waited in line for 10 minutes. They then told everyone they are not taking any more orders until they are caught up. Once ready, they will start taking orders again. Never heard of a place saying that. The kitchen and staff seemed like they were not on that same page. Food was sitting in the window for 10+ minutes. Dont go here on busy days, they apparently are only staffed and setup for slow days.

I love the location of this shop and the shop owner seems to love her business. However, since she doesnt live in her shop, my experiences have been mixed. Was served a half filled chai latte. Theyre already overpriced, so I went back inside to ask them to fix it. I was met with a condescending response. Seriously felt like I was being punked. They just frothed some milk and poured it on top. I wish I didnt tip 30 percent. Overall, unless you see the owner, run, because there is a 50/50 shot of getting pissed off.

Bad service. I requested a burger and was delivered to other table. When I went to the cashier to know where my food was, she said "I dont know". I went to the waitress and she took the burger from the wrong table and gave it to me, cold. I asked if they can warm up the burguer and she say: "why?" It is a place with a bunch of kids playing a game called running business. They dont know customers attention skills.

While visiting Chicago for the weekend I wanted to get out of the bustle of downtown to get a more local feel and was lucky to find The Spoke & Bird. Very cute place with a sunny outdoor patio. Great coffee and great service. The ham and egg sandwich with the side of potatoes was delicious! My travel buddy had a butternut squash soup that was also delicious! Great find on our way to the planetarium from the train.

My review is pretty limited, Ive only been for drinks and for coffee... Never the food. That said, the patio is great, tons of room and on a pretty quiet street so you can actually enjoy it. The beer selection is very good, not a ton of choices but theyre all good ones. 5 stars for the quality of the coffee too.

GREAT patio and place for coffee. Probably wouldnt get food again. Waited 35 mins for an egg sandwich and it had definitely just been sitting in the window as it was cold when it arrived. Good service, even better coffee, parking isnt too bad either. And they allow dogs on the patio!! Great coffee spot.
