I am married to a Brit and lived in London for 4 years myself and this is the most authentic pub that exists in Chicago. Its a Marstons pub so you get Pedigree and other ales and bitters. And the food is really good - better than what youd expect from pub food for sure. We had the Scotch egg, which was very nicely done. Then went for Suffolk Ham Charcuterie and this was bliss. Finished off with the Vindaloo Chicken sandwich which was an Indian on bread. Unusual and filling. The staff are really friendly and the pub has been overhauled and its ornate and beautiful. Great spot to pop in for a drink and good food or to hang out for the evening.

Whiskey for days, vintages that you dont see at other bars. Old red lion was like drinking in an old comfy shoe. New red lion is like drinking in a comfy wool knit cardigan and fresh slippers. It feels new but in the way that you know its quality will last and get better with age. Knowledgeable bar staff that wont brush off your questions about the decor. In fact, from my experience, they happily indulge in offering information about European history that you would never learn anywhere else in Chicago. Good whiskey and great conversation make this a gem for anyone with an open mind and a sincere thirst for history.

Fantastic experience, make double sure you visit this pub while in Chicago. (Arguably the best pub in Chicago/ maybe England) The owner rebuilt his fathers pub, who was the only person to escape as a German POW during WW2. Made legendary in the movie the great escape. The current owner is also more than happy to share the history he knows. Ask him about the time his Nan knocked him out!

What a great spot. So very adult! Clubby atmosphere with authentic WWII pix and memorabilia. Book cases - with real books. Bi-level, fireplace and comfy chairs. English Pub food done well. Great place to go when you want to have a conversation without yelling across the table to be heard. Great asset to the neighborhood.

What an amazing place! A lot of WWI and WWII pictures and a very impressive book collection! Great drinks. The place was quiet when we went and had a chance to talk to the owner. The drawings in the back were made by the owners father while he was at a German POW camp in WWII. The bartender was also a very likable guy.

Cozy, homely with a wonderful atmosphere and Host! A great collection of European Beers, British Food (pretty damn good too!) and an interesting history. Colin, the Host has done an amazing job with the place and has some curious tales to tell. Kudos to him! Will go there over and over again! Cheers!

Great LP pub. Wonderfully decorated interior that really transports you out of Chicago and over to Britain. Food is great, and again, adds to the well done English feel of the place with traditional dishes you wouldnt find in any old Chicago restaurant. Absolutely worth stopping in!

Amazing place and wonderful atmosphere, I highly recommend this location to anyone looking for a good drink and amazing poutine. The fish and chips portion is huge and delicious while the bangers and mash disappeared quickly from my husbands plate. We will definitely be back soon!

Yes. Enjoy the renaissance of the Red Lion. If you meet Colin and lucky enough to have a conversation with him, youll notice he is truly Lincoln Park gentry. Hes been there since DePaul had to hang up riot proof shutters on the English Department building.

Chicagos Best Tavern with proprietor Colin Cordwell aka "First Lord of Chicago Barkeeps" always the gracious host who makes you feel more than welcome....that you belong. Food excellent with highlights being Cottage Pie, Fish & Chips, and Bangors & Mash.

You dont have to be super dressy although you definitely can be. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. The beer options are just as European as the decor but after a short talk with the bartender he found me the perfect drink!

Truly, a great pub. Beautifully appointed with a mid-century British feel. Great menu, great bar selection in a warm, inviting, rich atmosphere; if you can’t enjoy yourself here the problem is with you.

This place is great. The upstairs fireplace is awesome in the winter. The guy that owns this place might be the best car tender in Chicago, he knows his stuff and has the X factor of passion.

Walked in, sat at the bar for 7ish minutes, bartender ignored us the whole time and just talked to the people right next to us. Only 6-7 people were there - not busy. We left.

Went there to catch up a friend. The place is not overly noisy. The food was decent. I would go there again for a beer and discussion and probably somewhere else for food.
