This review is for the waitress , I was in the restaurant on Wednesday June 22 around 7 pm, she is a young girl l dont know her name, she had a very rude attitude , manager or owner beware with the people who is hire as an employee, because they can ruin your business , I was there for the first and last time, wasted half an hour of my time just to serve me water , worst service in my life.

I am beyond excited to have found this hidden gem in my neighborhood! I am going to tell EVERYONE I know about Sol de Mexico! The gentleman whom I believe to be the owner, could tell I was amazed to have found the place, and gave me a tour of the restaurant and the space he is renovating into a lounge-y area for the 10:30 - 3 am weekend crowd. I came in with the intention of getting carry-out, but after talking to him for a bit I decided to relax and enjoy my meal there. Warm, cozy, ambience and great music got me out of my Chicago Winter funk! I ordered the Merluza en Crema de Tomatillo, a seared Chilean Sea Bass dish. So simple and so outstanding. But before I received my entree, I was brought Tostaditas de Ceviche Guererence (ceviche-style Marlin) on the house. Amazing. Took some Flan and coffee to go, and my server went out of her way to make me a to-go cup even though they didnt have any. The owner/manager and my server were so genuinely friendly, which was refreshing. Im a server, so I appreciate warmth in service. Im so excited about this place that Im bringing my out-of-town friend next Saturday for some tequila! You MUST eat here!

We went here because a quick Google search listed it as one of the best Mexican restaurants in Chicago. It is beautiful on the inside, lovely and colorful decor. First the staff -- pretty unfriendly and I swear the waitress rolled her eyes at us when we asked some cocktail questions. We asked about food recommendations and quantities, same behavior. It took them three tries to get two separate take out orders. The cocktails were great, esp the sangria and tri-pina. Next the food - neither I nor my friend have had such terrible food - had is an exaggeration, after a few bites we had to throw it out - quesadillas, shrimp, tortillas, everything. It was undercooked, doughy, lumpy and just bad, bad, bad. I dont recommend this place at all

Visited this place with my girlfriend a Monday afternoon and we had a wonderful experience. Carlos was our server and made the experience very pleasant. We ordered sopa de lentejas, mole negro and cotillas de puerco en salsa verde, all dishes were excellent, well prepared, and even visually pleasing! The portions are great and the quality of the food exceeds the price. Carlos made sure our cups of coffee and water were always full and again made the whole experience memorable. This is a great local restaurant all around, great food and atmosphere. Would love to come again durring the evening for dinner and drinks!

This restaurant is a hidden treasure in a neglected neighborhood. Seek it out; the food is exceptionally tasty, the price is reasonable, and the service is delightful. We enjoyed a perfectly grilled skirt steak and the black mole with chicken. The tortillas are made in-house and are warm and toothsome. Our 3-year-old daughter was also treated very well-- she enjoyed the tortillas, black beans, and house-made horchada.

We have dined here 3 times, and everytime the food was delicious. On the pricey side (including drinks) however I have never been one to understand fine dining until now. The flavors are amazing, the service is friendly, and just a wonderful dining experience (especially for a special occasion). The combo appetizer is wonderful, and their specials are always unique and tantelizing.

I enjoyed my visit here. There was very great customer service. The servers were very attentive. I ordered the green vegetarian pozole and it was delicious. My mother ordered the red mole and she enjoyed it. Also, the churro sandwich for dessert was yummy!! Definitely a good place to go to if you are looking for authentic Mexican plates and not your basic taco joint food.

Worst place I have ever been to. Saying that this place has real Mexican food is offending any great Mexican restaurant. The price ridiculouse, the food the same. Obviously these people who claim to be Mexican cooks need to ho back to Mexico and remember how truly Mexican food is. Major DISSAPOINTMRNT. The only good thing was the appearance of it.

You can easily spend 40 dollars per person on just a dinner and two drinks. Good food but limited menu. Food is cuisine style so dont expect much in the form of portions. Also, drinks are very limited when it comes to alcohol content and portion size. In my opinion, this restaurant belongs downtown not in this neighborhood.

Excellent. Best moles that Ive had anywhere and Ive tried every type here. The menu is always evolving, yet every dish Ive ordered has been spectacular, from appetizers to dessert. Tequila cocktails are just as perfectly balanced as everything else on the menu. This spot is a shining jewel on Cicero Ave.

What can be said about Sol del Mexico that hasnt already been said about the 1972 Miami Dolphins?! This place is perfect. From the food to the atmosphere, drinks to the staff, I have yet to enjoy mexican more anywhere in Chicago. Highly recommend it, whether youre a local or just visiting. 100/100 easy!

I love this place. I go every chance I get but its not often enough. The flavors are amazing. I used to go before they had a liquor license and take my own but now I enjoy the margaritas - or a straight shot of a great tequila. They have many. Food is wonderful, service is great. A must try!
