I have been a customer for over 40 years and unfortunately their customer service in the bakery has deteriorated so much that I will not shop there again. I went in on Saturday to buy an assortment of cakes for dinner guests. 3 customers were waiting and about 4 staff were having a chat in the back. Let me just say there was a total lack of enthusiam to serve customers and we were all made to feel like we were imposing on their day. Eventually one lady was waited on and her server asked for more help. I selected my cakes being very specific that i did not want any cakes with nuts due to a nut allergy. I repeated the request for no nuts, the order was packed, paid for and I left - unfortunately I didnt look in the boxes before leaving the store. When I served the cakes that evening I found that they had given me brownies with nuts sprinkled on top which had spread over everything I had purchased making them inedible for me. I went back to the bakery on Sunday to explain my upset about the nuts and found the staff to be uncaring but they did offer me a refund on the returned cakes with no apology other than saying they dont guarantee nut free. I accept that in most places there is a possibility that machinery was used that contain nuts. I can usually deal with this but not with actual nuts on the items. Although I was given a refund for the items I returned (partial order), I had expected an apology and some compassion. I found the staff rude and customers were made to feel like they were an imposition. What happened to this wonderful bakery? I feel I should have received a full refund of the $25 I spent and not just $9 to cover what I returned. (Some of my guests ate some of the cakes and I had thrown some away). I also think a gift card or discount would have been nice too. Because the nuts had spread everywhere I was unable to eat anything (cupcakes, cookies etc). Sorry Deerfields, but I wont be shopping in your bakery again - I accept your overpriced items because of the quality of the food but I am not willing to accept rudeness, attitude and lack of sincere apology.

Ordered a cake online for my mothers 85th birthday. I could have gone to Marianos but decided that for this special event I would order from a dedicated bakery. What a mistake. The cake was encased in a one inch thick layer of buttercream making it way too sweet for human consumption. The cake (sponge) was dry and flavorless. And I was charged $45, twice what I could have ordered from Marianos (which would have been better quality). I served the cake and watched my family members scoop the sponge off the barrier of buttercream. Every plate came back with a huge gob of buttercream on it. Not only did I not receive any compliments on the cake, nobody wanted to take any home. I went to bakery in Buffalo Grove to lodge a complaint. The assistant manager (dont know where the manager was) said I had to bring the cake in. Eyeballing the remainder of the cake would not tell her how poorly it tasted. She was trying to obfuscate the issue as I was requesting restitution for their over-priced bakery block. The cake was cut up and frozen and I refused to jump through this unnecessary hoop. I tried to call Deerfields main number only to get bounced around their voicemail system without the ability to talk to a human being. I also emailed customer support and did not get a response. What really gets my goat was that I wanted to make this a day to remember for my mother who does not have many birthdays left. Too bad the memory she will have will be that of a lousy, expensive cake. So dont buy anything at Deerfields unless you want over-priced, low quality baking goods with poor customer service.

Ive been going to Deerfield Bakery in Deerfield, and later Buffalo Grove, for almost 30 years It was always my "go to" bakery for birthday cakes and dessert trays. The last couple times Ive been there, most recently this past weekend, have been disappointing. I stopped in around 11:00 on Saturday morning to buy a large selection of miniatures (pecan tarts, cheesecake tarts, petit fours, etc.) but there was almost nothing in the case. Other than a ton of cupcakes, it was empty. So I waited a while for someone who finally decided to offer her assistance and asked if I could place an order for a dessert tray and she said she couldnt do that but suggested I stop in on Sunday to see what was in the case. I thought that was weird and wondered what kind of bakery this is? I dont know if they are slowly winding down to close their doors, but thats what it felt like. For several years now, Ive been thinking its time to find a new bakery, and now Im sure of it. Its too bad, this used to be a great family tradition.

This was the place for cakes! I use to get all my cakes from deefields in buffalo grove. The last time was a little dry and I have been making cakes since we have had some small at home parties. We are getting ready for a larger party and I went the other day since I was driving by and had to order a cake anyway the manager did not even want to assist me told me to just look online. I said umm is the pricing online too? I know from prior that the cakes are level pricing from 1 to 5 I think or 6 basically more complicated more money she said yes pricing online. I have not been on the website in a while so I said ok. I went home and still the same website just numbers. How does that help me I have to call in. The point is I was right there. There were 4 cars in the whole parking lot so it was not busy. Sorry have to go elsewhere now. No customer service anymore so I am not going to risk the quality either.

A group of friends have been eating breakfast at Deerfields for many years. About 3-4 years ago they changed their coffee to a private label branded with their own name. After years of disgusting tasting coffee I bring my own coffee (Papa Nicolas). Pleas to management have been met with non-response. I fear Deerfield mgt dont drink coffee. The question of cleanliness of the coffee urns is also an issue because you cant get a decent cup of coffer from dirty equipment. The bakery is overpriced in my.opinion. It appears the employee moral at this establishment is very low just like the wages. These comments are meant to urge management to listen to their customers and try to satisfy them. There are new places opening up in the area which are bound to reduce Deerfields revenue in spite of their past reputation. Deerfields must learn they are only as good as their last pastry.....

I drove 35 minutes to the closest location to order the cake for a large upcoming family event. I requested a low glycemic/or sugar-free cake in order to accommodate my mother who is a diabetic. Instead of being offered an alternative suggestion or referral to another business when I asked a few questions in an attempt to find a solution, I was lectured on "corporate policy" by an assistant manager who seemed like she didnt even want to take my order in the first place. I initially decided to go ahead and order the cake anyway, but I quickly realized that I was going to have to jump through a lot of hoops and that this lady was not interested in making the process easy for me in any way. I decided it was not worth the hassle and stopped halfway through the order and walked out.
