Decided to try this restaurant after leaving a nearby movie theater. 1st and last time ever entering this establishment. 1st: They close at 9 pm; we entered at 8:24 pm. I told the host that I would like to sit down and eat and that there were 4 people in my party. She says, "We close at 9 pm. Well, i guess if you can eat fast then it will be OK." I have never been to a sit-down restaurant that informs their guests of closing time and suggest that they eat fast. 2nd: Food came out very quickly, but was not to our liking. We order sweet and sour chicken, 2 sesame chickens and an orange chicken. My order of sweet and sour chicken was the only plate that resembled what was ordered. The other chicken dishes came in what I could only describe as chicken strings instead of chunks, and the orange chicken was the same color as the sesame chicken, just without sesame seeds. We were also given one bowl of rice to serve all 4 of us. After my party tasted their food and did not like it (and I do mean taste as in one bite), we decided we did not want to stay. I immediately sought out the person who sat us and explained the situation. She looked at me dumbfounded. I told her that the food was not to our liking and that we did not eat it. She starts to say that “this is how we have made the dish for 20 years. No one has ever complained about our food.” I told her sorry, we just don’t want to stay. 3rd: She then tried to insist that we pay for part of the food because “that was a lot of food.” I told her no. We were not paying for food that we didn’t eat. She then said, “Just go! Whatever!” If you have never been here, you may not want to go. Also, two more guest came in after us to dine in, a family of 4 and a couple. I wonder did she told them to eat fast? Do not eat at this restaurant if you desire quality service, quality food, or respect.

My family and I have eaten at the China Bistro well over a dozen times in the past few years. The food has always been superb and the portion sizes are generous. The atmosphere is perfect for children because they have a large fish tank which the children enjoy viewing. The dinning room is simple and not too formal which makes it great for gatherings with small children. China Bistro offers REAL fruit smoothies which are fantastic on a hot summer day. They use real fruit and not just fruit syrup. The eggrolls are of generous size and not too oily. They have many of the traditional Chinese entrees you would expect and all the ones we had were stuffed with large portions of meats and vegetables. I would recommend that they finish the bottom of the fish tank so that it would be more aesthetically pleasing. Right now they just leave it open and you can see all the cleaning supplies and items stored under the tank. This could be dangerous to children. Some nice wood trim would go a long way! Also, there are also a few things that could be done in the dining room that would really improve the aesthetics. Regarding the food, I wish they had BROWN rice. I would pay more for it if they did. China Bistro always has coupons on Resturant dot com for some great discounts. Overall, I would say that China Bistro is a great place for families with children because the food is terrific and the environment is casual. Lastly, it is a family run business, and I like to do what I can to support people who try and make a positive difference in the world. China Bistro makes a positive difference with its great food and service. China Bistro is CooL. JacK VegaS

China Bistro is my favorite Chinese restaurant! (It also helps that its close to home) The food is great. Its small enough that you feel welcome. The staff are so nice and very attentive. At times, it can get very busy, but the food is worth the wait. I highly suggest going there for lunch or dinner someday; you wont regret it. I actually had about ten people go to China Bistro for my birthday lunch last year, and we were served promptly and loved every minute of the meal. I usually order a fried fish (technically, its not on the menu, shh...), and its always perfectly fried and seasoned (plus its huge and comes with a great sweet and sour sauce). Big ol slab of tasty and tender Dover sole... yum! Im a very picky eater; if I like it, youll like it.

If you read my other reviews, you will know that I am a bit of an Asian food snob, having traveled throughout Asia and having eating a lot of home cooked authentic Asian food. China Bistro has a pretty typical American style Chinese menu, but the flavors and the cooking technique is decidedly Asian and authentic. I had the Chow Fun tonight, which was delicious. My parents shared sesame beef and shrimp with vegetables... also quite excellent! The portions we huge, the prices were reasonable and the service was attentive and casual. AND... Go for the egg rolls. They were great as well!

If youre visiting Algonquin (or you live nearby) you must try China Bistro. Their food is excellent and all their meats are top quality. Beef tenderloin is used in most steak dishes. Yum! Crab Rangoon and Orange Chicken are my favorites (most locals love Orange Chicken-its famous). The place is usually very crowded so be sure you phone in first. If you dont find a dish youd like to order, they would be happy to prepare your order in request which is unusual for a chinese restaurant. This is hands-on the best restaurant in town. Try it you wont be sorry!!

Dont waste your time and money. The staff is rude, disrespectful, arrogant and treat customers poorly. The food is mediocre at best, bland, cold and usually not what you ordered. IF you try this place, be forewarned that the employee "ozzie" is a complete jerk and should be fired, but wont because his parents are the owners. You are better off going to the Gourmet House around the corner or any other chinese restaurant other than the China Bistro. Worst. Experience. Ever.

THATS THE MAIN SAUCE.... HOW embarrassing to having company! We called them back and explained! they said we will deliver the sauce OR reimburse the cost,,, Well HELLO! We want both! We are the customers! and RUDE AS CAN BE! We are DONE!!! The worse customer SERVICE EVER!

On more than one occasion I have ordered Chicken Fried Rice and had chicken pieces with bone left in it. It is a shame that this happened because I really enjoyed most of the food here. I will not be back as the bones were in my fried rice the last two consecutive times that I have ordered out from China Bistro. I give it 3 stars because the food is good, but unfortunate that I keep finding bones in my rice.

Probably the best Chinese food in the area. Family run business and frequented their establishment since it started in Crystal Lake. Mostly take out and coupons available online but if you want a relaxing break, dine-in is available too. Ample parking and relatively easy in and out but possible traffic on cross streets during evening rush hour could be a slight issue. But any inconvenience is well worth it.
