Living within walking distance of the Crafty Hog and being a bit of a backyard barbecue connoisseur, I was out of my mind THRILLED when I heard this place was replacing Howards (a dive / poor excuse for a restaurant that catered to geriatrics). For what its worth, I typically have a pork shoulder, rack of ribs, or brisket smoking every weekend, so I know a thing or two about barbecue and couldnt wait to try the Crafty Hogs offerings.
Well, after giving it a month or so to work out the kinks, we tried it last night with a friend of ours and Im happy to report that it was wonderful all the way around.
We got there early on a Saturday evening and I was pleased to be informed that there was only about a ten minute wait since that gave us time to check the bar area out before dinner. They have a pretty decent selection of draft beer and liquors that should satisfy nearly everyones palette, but were a bit lacking in the craft beer department. We enjoyed our beverages, listened to some great classic rock, chatted it up with the friendly bar tender, and then were informed that our table was ready.
Upon being seated, we were greeted by an ultra friendly waitress who had plenty of recommendations for us.
Ill typically judge a barbecue joint by its pulled pork and sauces, so thats what I ordered and my wife got the turkey. My pulled pork was smoked perfectly, moist, and their signature "Hog Wash" sauce was damn near perfect, covering the taste spectrum of sweet, spicy, and tangy. Also, I dont want to overlook the bun that the sandwich was served on - it was excellent - I hate when places cheap out and serve you a hamburger bun straight out of the bag or a greasy slab of texas toast.
Their fries and fried pickles were on point as well. My wifes turkey was dry for my taste, but she actually raved about it and to be fair, Im not a huge turkey fan anyway. She left happy and thats all that matters.
As for the rest of the menu, it really covers the gamut of barbecue and I look forward to trying their brisket (despite it being chopped

Heres the deal - the food at this place is incredible. I mean, Ive been there countless times and havent eaten anything I didnt like. HOWEVER - the service is as awful as the food is delicious. It is so frustrating because I crave their food (the brussel sprouts, corn on the cob and mac n cheese) but its near impossible to get a good server. My fiancé and I have visited the restaurant on numerous occasions and weve brought both friends and family with us to introduce them to the great food. Of all the many times weve been there, only twice - TWO TIMES - have we received good service; once while sitting in the back 21 and up bar area and once by a woman who I believe was an old Howards waitress (slender, shorter dark hair). I worked in the service industry for 6 years at a few different restaurants and I am dumbfounded at why they cant get it together. I have never been there when it was busy enough to warrant waiting 10 minutes for a drink in the bar area. My fiancés drink had been sitting at the service bar for so long it was watered down by the time it made it to the table. Tonight, we were waiting on a box and the check and we observed our server, standing in plain view, standing around chit chatting (with our box in her hand) with other waitresses. We have about decided that from here on out we are just going to order take out. Which sucks because the restaurant is cool, they have bocce ball and horseshoes and a fun environment but the poor service outweighs all that. I want this place to do well, I really do, but they need to get it together service-wise.

Extremely unhappy! My to go order was messed up and got a weird....borderline snippy response when I called to complain. Normally, I check my to go orders before leaving, but the hostess opened the boxes as I was paying and said it was fine. I got home to find that the pastrami sandwich I ordered was only bread and meat. The menu I had indicated it came with melted swiss and spicy brown Mustard along with a side of chips. I immediately called when I got home to bring the mistake to their attention and was passed along to a gentleman who questioned what I ordered vs what I got. He proceeded to tell me thats how pastrami sandwiches came. I told him what was listed on the menu. He said their pastrami sandwiches didnt come that way and WHO was I trying to call. I said...WHO AM I TRYING TO CALL???? THE PLACE I JUST LEFT....CRAFTY HOG! By this point I was beside myself.....said forget it and hung up. We have been patrons of this place since it opened, but they wont be getting my money any more. I just checked the menu on the web: Smoked Pastrami House cured and smoked pastrami on toasted marble rye, spicy brown mustard, melty swiss. Served open faced!

I came here to pick up food to go. Apparently a pulled pork platter only comes with one ramekin of barbecue sauce which is woefully insufficient to cover the meat. So I paid extra for two additional sauces. When they came out they were about 1/3 full. I asked the bartender (A tall slender female with glasses) if they could fill them up since I had to pay for them. She looked at me like I was the biggest idiot on the planet made some smart remark about having to re-ring it through the computer and that it would cost me additional money. What? Its barbecue sauce. This is a barbecue restaurant. I live right down the street, and they just lost a customer because they wouldnt give me a full ramekin of sauce. It may sound like something stupid to complain about, but I like my barbecue pork to be covered in barbecue sauce. They shouldnt charge extra, but if they do they should actually give you value for your money, and if they dont, they shouldnt make you feel stupid for saying something about it

Wings taste great, but extremely overpriced. They have many flavors. My favorite is the Ghost pepper sauce. I go every year for my B-day. I try to go more, but the prices seem to hurt my wallet. They say they compete with other restaurants, but who else charges more than a dollar a wing? They also have a full bar which is rare for BBQ joints. The beer selections were great. They also have many activities you can do outside. I like this place, but they need to stop being greedy on their prices. The reason they aren’t getting a great review from me is because there odd numbers of wings to order and the incredible more than 1$ a wing. That’s ridiculous! $26 for 25 wings? What is wrong with you? You should do wing increments of 5 so... 5, 10, 15, 20 and then do increments of 10... 30, 40, 50, and then 25... 50, 75, 100. (For catering mostly) Please fix your prices, so I don’t see another one of my favorite restaurants close!
